So we went with a group of 5 guys for three days of ice fishing and only caught one walleye over 18". I doubt most of the group will want to go back. I myself don't really need to keep any walleye for the table, but others desire it. I feel/fear for the operators on that lake. Hopefully it's the right decision.

Got my musky back from Advanced Taxidermy

Replicas are more expensive that skin mounts. I'm thinking I should have stayed in the business if that's what it cost to have a replica done. LOL -
Interesting how the team played a little better defensively when Mac was put in. Maybe my imagination though.

Sorry to hear you and the family are going through some sad days. She looks so much like one of the huskies I had. Ours made it to 16, same leg problems, but wandered off when it was her time. Sounds like you have some amazing memories though!

People spend a lot on fishing gear! I don't think I have ever spent over $100 on a reel. Maybe one bait caster and they all seem to last for an acceptable amount of time. They function fine and I seem to catch plenty of fish. What parts are breaking on these top of the line reels? Shimano should be careful though, they have a great following because of the service they have provided in the past. Businesses suffer when they lose sight of what got them to where they are.

why are there so many part time jobs in Ontario
jimmer replied to Oggie's topic in General Discussion
Moving to a service based economy. Others have already mentioned the benefits, easy to let workers go. It sucks because the gov can say they created x number of jobs, they just don't tell you that they are p/t. I have been looking to change jobs lately and there really isn't much to choose from. I guess I should consider myself lucky to have a full time job. -
You can't leave lines unattended. There is a certain amount of distance that has to be maintained between you and any set lines.

Just read that the MNR laid 19 fishing charges in a blitz through Haliburton on the weekend. The charges ranged from no licences, too many lines, fish out of season, over limits, slot fish being kept, too far from lines. When are people going to start following the regs?

Call Jack at Adventure Fishing Maps. He has one for sure. 705-292-6175 It came up with I googled it. Not necessarily showing the map, but it's listed, so he has one.

I always love how the MNR say that once the plan is completed it will be subject to public consultation.

Wasn't this a CBC decision? They're good at making the right decision! LOL

Anyone on here ever read the book called The Last Guide? Just wondering what your thoughts are about the book? It has some interesting history about Algonquin Park and the life of Frank Kuiack.

The fishing was good this winter. We had no problem catching walleye on our trip and have heard that many others experienced success. Can't see why they would want to drop the limit again? Don't know if our group will go back if the limit is dropped to 1 fish per guy. FYI Shawn the writer, is the owner of Idle Tymes and Bear Creek Cottages on Nipissing.

I would fish a different lake. Late afternoon would be best if you do go there. Most people fish the west side of the lake.

Mid to late June would be better than any date in August. It's hard to get to the French river delta on your own. You would have to rent a place and have them take you from Hartley Bay Marina. It is one of the most beautiful places though as BillM says.

I would recommend that if the 1/2 day is winding down and you aren't catching any roosters, tuna, etc. ask the captain to take you closer to shore to catch something/anything for a bit of fun on lighter tackle. I wish I would have done that when I went.

I'm not sure they could add anyone of significance (who's available that's worth getting), so I doubt there will be any moves.

They do it because they can!

What would I get out of it? My name in the records doesn't really mean much to me. Do they give you millions for a record????? I might if that's case though. LOL

I will never understand keeping a lake trout that size anymore. They are terrible for a skin mount, probably horrible to eat and would be much better let go to fight another day. Yes, it is in most people right to keep it, but just saying there are other much better options if you want the fish on the wall. I wouldn't think twice about letting that fish go back down the hole.

I have also seen guys mount the electrics on the side of the smaller boats. Bring some 1x4 and 2x4 for shimming if required.

I'm looking for an ice fishing tip, stocked lakers
jimmer replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
I think I know which lake you are talking about and they should change the tourney to January. LOL I have always had luck in January and squat once February comes along. I usually use one set line and jig (tipped with minnow) with the other. Most fish are caught in less than 30'. Try out from the boat house on the south west side of the lake. -
The Hydro One debate will go on for ever. I was told (by electrical inspector) heating with electricity was the way to go when I built my house 26 years ago. There isn't a day that goes by that I wish I could come face to face with that person again. I never turn my baseboards on unless I'm away and have always heated with wood. As far as not using during peak periods, we do it, but the rate will continue to go up so they can meet their bottom line. They still need the level of revenue to operate on the present scale, so the less hydro used by the masses, the more you will pay for it.

Life's short. Get a house that's done and spend your time fishing, hunting and loving your wife. Just saying! -
Tarpon Springs is a great area. Some of the homes/properties are amazing.
