walleyejigger replied to oxcowboy's topic in General Discussion
congrats, some nice looking deer there, he will remember your time together forever -
you should wait for an invite before you refuse, i doubt any of those invites will be coming anytime soon

they had it on our lacal news last night how some brush and trees were budding and could result in damage to the trees as the "new" groth will most likely freeze, and also how our moose and deer heards aren't having any trouble finding food so far, so that's good for them

if you know what your looking for (with options and test drive) just email all the dealers exactly what your looking for and let the prices and deals come in and forward them to each other until the bidding stops, it'll start with prices and then with extras, when you get a deal your happy with all you'll have to do is sign the papers, that's what i did as i'm not much of a haggler either, if they try and screw you you have it all in writing, they "omitted" a few things on the invoice when i went to sign but i noticed them, i told him that wasn't what we agreed upon, took a few minutes of standing my ground but they came around and in my opinion came out with a very good deal with only one trip to a dealer

first off a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone havne't been around to much lately as i've been working like a madman thru the month of december but i'm now back to my regular shifts and actually have days off to relax finally figured out how to post pics that aren't thumbnails yesterday was my first chance to do some ice fishing and being that i'm don't trust ice all that much i figured i'd go a little north for some trout, drove to a small lake in the gogama area and was supposed to meet my brother and his bud on the lake at sun up, being his drive was much shorter than mine he should have been there before me, but nope, got left home around 6:15 hit the bait shop for 2 doz. chubs (8 bucks) OUCH then timmies for a coffee and a few timbits and off i went got to the lake just past 8:00 after a beautiful morning drive with the full moon setting down daylight breaking with my brother nowhere to be seen i gave him a call on the cell for him to tell me he had just left so out i went by myself and they never got there till 10:00, there was about 6-8" of ice with an inch or two of slush and another inch or two of snow here's the tranquility of the lake just after i set up (not a single ripple on the water) here's my first we caught 8 specks and 1 splake in total, missed quite a few at the hole and lots of nippers here's our loot at the end of the day finally here's the moon coming up at the end of the day all in all a great day and glad to finally get out there

i agree with dan, shallow shallow shallow, and with only a foot or so of water bellow you, quiet quiet quiet, try not to move around to much, bank snow around your hole and try and hover over it if you can to minimize light coming in, i often times lay on my belly and look down the hole, with the shallow water you can see the fish i mostly use minnows, but if you can't haul those in i've had some success with artificial maggots in a jar from berkley, real ones would probably be better but, ewwwwww, just cause one day you didn't get a bite doesn't mean the next you won't limit out in an hour, very tempermental fish
