  1. I just stole the idea. Hey mike. How much were the dawgs????? Landry
  2. I use a milk crate with plastic downspout for bait holders. If you put a plastic liner in the bottom the tails will rest on the bottom and not poke through. Saw it on another Muskie site. I have 3 boxes and just mix and match for what I need. The boxes actually slide right under my deck addition and act as supports on my crestliner fish hawk.
  3. Good job! Nice fish! I was out on the same body of water on Sunday but it started getting rough and we moved west as I was worried we would get in trouble. We should have stuck it out in hindsight as the winds never got worse. The area we fished seemed empty of fish or we were devoid of skills???? How deep we're you fishing if you don't mind me asking as we hit it all between 5 and 17? Landry
  4. Is this the jimmy v who just retired from teaching?

  5. I have a 24 v trolling motor and two batteries. They are hooked up in "series" - correct? If so, I have two separate single inboard chargers on my boat and I hooked them up as follows: The black and red cable of one charger on one battery. Same for other charger. Sound correct? Landry
  6. It's fishing. It's not nice or responsible to stick fish with hooks at any time of year. I will likely continue to fish in the summer and water release fish. I will avoid shallow areas if that helps but I will continue to fish this summer.
  7. These guys are all correct. Listen, wait and watch for the right boat. Btw. My van has a towing capacity of 3500 pounds but my boat package is under 2000 and I wouldn't tow a 2500 lb rig with it. Landry
  8. I strongly encourage u to buy a 16' boat with a wider beam. It will make your shorter boat seem much bigger. I would look for a beam of 80 or more inches. And I think u r spending away too much with poor financing on that boat. Don't forget that you need to account for repairs and upkeep after the 4th year or so and paying monthly fees plus upkeep will be really annoying for 15 yrs. I bought a 2007 crest liner fish hawk with 16 verified hours on the engine and two years left on the motor warranty for 10,250$ plus hst. Bought in the states. It is usually your best bet. Buy in the fall. If you are patient and you narrow in on a particular model or models then you will find a steaI. I would walk in the other direction from that deal!!!!!! Landry
  9. That is a great looking boat. Landry
  10. I say you buy a slightly used boat in the states. 15000 will buy you a darn nice 16 to 18 foot aluminum. I would look at crest liner, alumacraft, smokercraft... I have owned two crust liner fish hawks and I think they are nicely laid out with wide beams and good decking and storage. Make sure you get a boat with a maxed out or close to it motor, as mentioned many times. And get a 24 v trolling motor too, as already mentioned. Landry
  11. Thanks. I will. We got a few nice eyes jigging in the south end today in the afternoon. My daughter caught a 23" er. She was very happy.
  12. I am on kash now. Half way thru a two week stay. The fishing is very tough this year!!!!!! Got a few walleye, where I got tons last year. Getting one every third evening:( Got a thick 46"Muskie and two small ones after about 8 hrs casting. I only fish the deeper waters for the biggies though. Saw a few other high 40" fish. The smallimouth fishing here sucks. Sorry but it is true. A few of my tourney friends hate when there are tournaments on this lake. We r getting decent numbers of 1 a 2 pounders - just enough to keep kids interested. The kids are havin a great time and the weather is nice. Landry
  13. This type of post makes Muskie anglers in general look bad. A vertical hold on a fish that size is fine, though not preferred. Way to welcome new Muskie anglers into the sport. Your arrogant attitude served no purpose. I am a teacher and I know from experience that being positive and then adding one clear and positive goal or next step is always better than belittling someone. This is a great site. Let's keep it that way!!!!!! landry
  14. Nice ride!!!!!!
  15. If it is slow a jerkbait is a great choice. I find the stop and tease action moves fish better than bucktails when things are slow. I always start with a fast moving lure and move to a jerkbait if it doesn't feel like it's happening. that's my one two punch. I like rubber a lot but I have a few go to hard jerkbaits that produce Landry
  16. My pop had a cottage on Mermaid for years in the main channel. As long as u are past the channel leading to the delawanna inn and picnic island (as in down towards south bay) or on the back side of the island you will be okay. The fishing is mediocre there IMO but it is very good out towards red rock and giants tomb for smallies. Landry
  17. Soft plastics mostly - super d's, dawgs, tubes, bondy baits, swim jigs with rubber
  18. As it is now though - I would say 4000 is fair if he is a friend and it needs work. It will likely cost u 1000 more somehow after u buy it.
  19. Aluminum puddy on all seams. Works like a charm.
  20. That is not a great price for a reconditioned unit IMO. Call Jocelyn at Angling Outfitters and he will likley beat that. I am fine with my 70pd V2 - it deploys well once u get the hang of it. Landry
  21. magic eraser may work - but it is a micro-abrasive pad so that is your call. It should remove it. After that spray a vinegar/water mix on it and wipe after loading on the trailer - I just started doing this and it gets rid of water spots.
  22. There is a great looking bassboat for 12,500 on this site's boat classifieds. I have seen that same model on the water - fast and very functional. I also bought a icehut from the seller and he was a good guy - and a longtime board member here. A 6000$ bassboat will likely cost you the same as that one in the end somehow. Sometimes you get lucky though - I bought a 16 year old boat that was cheap to run and very reliable. My neighbor has a newish 4 stroke merc that has broken down twice on him in the last year??!! Landry
  23. May and June are best in the great lakes if you want to find large numbers of fish - due to the spawn. Inland lakes and particularly rivers are often good all summer. You can blind cast for carp at times, but sight fishing them is waaay more effective. And yes - they eat flies and do not need to be force fed. Great lakes carp will often pursue a stripped fly but on average I find that they are easiest to catch by casting at a 45 - 90º angle and past them, then drag the fly near them and drop it within a couple of feet. They will scoot forward and suck it up - or run like heck the other direction!!! The easiest fish to catch are the sporadic rooters/feeders. The heavy rooters often don't see your fly and the cruisers are just plain difficult. I've been doing it since I went to seminar at the Isaac Walton Fly Show about 12 years ago I guess. I was skeptical at first but the first carp I threw to in the Speed River ate my fly by bolting 2 feet for it. The next 20 ran like hell after that, until I figured them out. Like all fish they can be easy but they are very spooky and can sometimes be nearly impossible, (ie: cruisers..) They are my favourite fly rod fish! Landry
  24. I need some help!!! Other than the 200+ dollar Navionics Great Lakes chip, what microSDchips can I buy for my elite5 (lowrance) unit that show the canadian waters of Detroit River and St. Clair. I have an SD Lakemaster Michigan chip that is great for my Lowrance LMS at my console but I need a microSD chip for my bow unit that is a microSD. Lakemaster only does Humminbird chips now and the Lakemaster Michigan Lowrance chips are sold out everywhere!!! Was wondering if the Fishing Hotspots chips covered only the states side of Detroit and St. Clair cause they are 100$???? Thanks Landry
