Up until this year I thought of myself as a good muskie angler. Well - been out casting st Clair 7 times and have only bagged one. I have lost my mojo big time and actually decided to fish bass until the fall as it just wasn't fun anymore. St Clair is not as easy as people make it out to be - trust me. Unless you are Mike. Wow. He is hot right now. Great job Mike. Btw - I hit St Clair on Monday for smallies and landed 30 15-20" smallies and lost a lot too. The bass fishing there is ridiculous. It was fun. Normally I refer to bass as baitfish;) It is one incredible fishery for sure. Landry

Making the plaster mold and coating with 50/50 wood glue mix costs next to nothing and was easy. If I pick it up in the states my order of plastisol, color, flake and alumidust powder paint will be under 200$. Apparently a gallon of plastisol will make over 700 senkos so it should make a 1000 drop shot style baits. That's $0.20 a bait. Colors, flakes... Add up in cost but that will be the fun part:) Slammers, jackall, Yamamoto and set the hook dropshot baits are all at least 0.80 each. My plan is to make my own version and tweak the softener and salt content to get my own horizontal bait. Plus it will be fun. I am new to this so we will see how it goes. I enjoy fly tying and rod building and paint a little so this is right up my alley. Landry

I made some plaster of Paris molds and re melted some old plastics to try and hand pour my some drop shot baits. It went well but I need an old microwave and a great mask cause this stuff is nasty and toxic I am gonna clone and design some drop shot and paddle tail baits this winter - just wanted to do a test run before I ordered plastisol, glitter, colour... I will not be selling these and I know they r copies. I plan on doing my own design with plastic end or sculpey. Just wanted to share. Landry

That is rough. Your poor boat. And I remember it was a nice one. Is it a write off too? Landry

When u go - #18 isopods, green caddis larva with brown head and and pheasant tails are killer there. If u pm me i will send u some pics and recipes. Tailgaters are known for having great numbers of small mayflies. Most on the bottom of rocks are #18 or smaller. The river is loaded with caddis, mayflies and scuds(isopods). The cedar run area just upstream of the ferguson arena/community centre (on bend of road) is a great place to start. The run is immediately above the path to river at the big willow tree. Nymph fish it. There are some monsters there. I used to fish the upper river 30 days a year befor I got married and had kids:) The river fishes much better in May and June as it gets a good bloom later and the best hatches are in those months. Nice. Very impressive. Landry -
I went yesterday casting. It was awful. Lost one casting and got a smallish one trolling. It has been slow for me lately. Maybe next time. Landry

I will second that Landry

Does anyone know where I can get plastisol for pouring soft plastics in Ontario??? I have got this crazy urge to start pouring my own designs. I have been checking out some very cool youtube videos on using sculpt modeling clay to make prototypes and doing plaster or bondy resin molds to pour them. I could sure use some guidance and advice on where to get my stuff and on what plastic/softener/salt mixes people have used to make senkos:) I have a very ambitious idea of making a large paddletail shad bait with interchangeable lead heads that can be casted or jigged in St Clair but I think I will start simple with a one piece mold for dropshot or flipping trailers. Thanks Landry

Awesome report. That is a beautiful drift boat. Landry -
And by the way my point was that I started to question the coca cola strike and then I remembered how it felt when people judged me.

Pikehunter: U my friend are misinformed. U say u do not begrudge anyone their choices but u clearly have a grudge against teachers. I agree - retired teachers should let new teachers work and not supply teach part time. However, they are entitled to their pension as they paid heavy dues for years. Yes the govnt contributes but so do many large corporations with their employees. I never complain about my job. However I will state some facts for you so you are more accurately informed. I am not whining as I have a good job: - I spent 15 0000 a year x 5 yrs plus I made no money while my buddy made 30 000 a year. That put me more than 300 000 behind him. Nobody would make an investment like that and not expect to make a good return on that investment. I am glad I did as I feel it was worth it. - I have taken many pay freezes and done my part to the tune of abou a 12% loss compared to the cost of living. I never get a raise, simply cost of living. Nobody would want their salary to move backwards. - a hard working teacher, works many extra hours. Just because the school day is only 6 hours does not mean I work 6 hours. Elementary teachers plan and invent most of their lessons. Textbooks r disappearing. - teaching, like all jobs, looks easy for the outside. In reality, the job is far more complicated. I am a a parent at times, counsellor, teacher, coach all at on e. I juggle the needs of 28 students who range in abilities for grade one to grade 9 in my grade six class. I teach autistic children, neglected children, brilliant learners who need enrichment, children with ill parents and many children with special needs. Each lesson is actually differentiated to meet all of these varying needs. It is more complicated than it seems from the outside. A good teacher makes it look easy. A bad teacher stands out cause they r quickly exposed - and not easily forgotten, (though protected by our union unfortunately). - I love my job. I will retire before it gets bad for education. And it will get bad. If u keep chipping away at teachers working conditions and cost of living corrections then we will eventually end up like many American states where it just doesn't make sense for skilled people to choose to teach. Is that what we really want for our children? Be careful what u wish for. Tell ya what- tell me what u do and I will gather inaccurate secondhand info and then post here why u r spoiled, overpaid and underworked. Or maybe we should all walk a mile in someone else's shoes befor we judge them eh? Just a thought for u before u criticize someone's profession in a public forum. Landry

Barefoot. U r a very skilled communicator and u made many good points. I am in a union and I still agree with u.

I will enjoy my 2 months off. Like y said we all make choices. Some choose the free gravy train of welfare - true. Some actually deserve and need welfare. Some made sacrifices early and invested in their future by training. That is what I and others with a skilled trade... did. I guess we shouldn't begrudge other's choices and if you don't like your choice this summer then u should think about retraining - which is exactly the point u made about the coke issue. If y r not happy, make a change, leave, retool so to speak. Like I said, I had a few drinks last night. Don't take this so personally. I did for a minute but whatever. We should argue about important stuff like fishing:) Landry
