Boat refurbishing (Alum Sylvan bowrider)
I'mHooked replied to I'mHooked's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for all the links guys. That'll keep me busy for a while. I'm not in a position to go out and buy a 'water ready' boat now, but taking possession of one that wouldn't cost anything to acquire would make it easier to spend some money on it over time. That'll be easier to swing with wife as well! I'm still debating it, but the other sites provided will help me decide. -
Boat refurbishing (Alum Sylvan bowrider)

Thanks everyone. iboats definitely looks like the right place. Have checked out few threads and all quite interesting and pointing in the right direction. Both the boat and engine are familiar to me as I grew up beating the heck out of both of them as it was our family boat. It's been in the family since new. Unfortunately it's seen better days and has been sitting for the last 8 years. A few years ago someone tried to swipe the engine while it was in stroage at a local marina. They cut the cables/controls etc. , and got it off the boat to the ground. Something must have scared them away, as that's how it was found the next morning. While I'd have a garage for working on the engine, the boat itself would likey have to remain outdoors during a transformation. Fortunately my driveway is long enough that you'd have a hard time seeing the boat from the street just driving by. Thanks again guys. (looking forward to the 9th Symon!) -
Hi guys (and gals), I may have the opportunity to take possession of a late 70's Sylvan 16½" Aluminum bowrider. The interior is destroyed. Needs complete gut including new floors. The dual consoles are still standing and the windshield is intact. It'll have an '86 Evinrude 90 VRO with it, although not on it as transome is being replaced. I'd likely be retrofitting to a fishing boat from a family fun boat. One of my questions is are there any good sites or forums you guys are aware of relating to this type of DIY refurbishing? Any sites to check out regarding the engine? I'm trying to convince myself (and the wife ) that it'll be worth the effort. The boat, engine & trailer likely wouldn't cost me anything. Any direction the esteemed and experienced OFC gang point me in is much appreciated. Who knows, maybe I'll need some volunteers to see if the damned thing floats when it's done.

Nice fish guys, looks like a great day!

If you are putting down anything less than 25% the banks will require you to sign as part of your mortgage agreement a document verifying that you will be the tenant and you will not be renting out portions of the property. You will need to qualify for the mortgage on your own 'verifiable' income without renters. When you put down at least 25% you can do what you want.

It won't be long before the phrase "Beam me up Scotty" actually means something! -
Forget the 'light' beer! Looks like fuzzy will have multiple uses. Imagine all the events she could sneek her own drinks into!

Well I wouldn't suggest anyone commit job/career suicide. I guess every industry is a little different. There are some out there where employers & employees have the kind of relatioship/interaction where a NON-THREATENING type conversation could take place about interest from a potential suitor. I honestly wouldn't have thought of it myself early on in my real world experience, until the day I gave my notice at work years ago. I gave appropriate notice to my branch manager. The next day he had the regional manager prepared on a conference call to have a 'conversation'. Assumed it was going to be an exit type interview. Well, among other things, they wanted to know what was being offered to motivate me to make the change etc. Up until this point I had no intentions of asking them for anything, however as a result of THEIR inquiring, I did end up staying and actually being promoted in relatively short order with a branch office of my own. My EMPLOYER taught ME that these conversations can happen without committing 'suicide' as some have called it. Hey, if you've already got a foot half out the door, it can't do much more harm "if the relationship is right" to have a conversation. I have tried to nurture this type of relationship with those who have subsequently worked under me. There is nothing wrong with, as an emloyer or boss, being approachable to discuss opportunity. Lets face it, with the average length of time spent at any one job being in the neighbourhood of 7 years, It's kind of naive as an employer to think that people aren't keeping their eyes open for other potential opportunity from either outside or within.

Jerk! Nice going Aaron!

Approach your current employer and advise them of the interest in you, and see if they are willing to 'sweeten' the pot to sway/entice you to stay. If they give you an extra 10-15%, then that might narrow the gap enough that it's not worth the change.

So, TJ, you had that subscription since what, 12 or 13 years of age? Walleye FTW!

How many decades does each candle represent? 2, 2½ ? -
Well I must say that in my "younger" years I had been known to on a dare, at a seven-eleven, put an un-opened can of chilli in their microwave and leave the store. Another interesting experiment is to put a burned out light bulb in a microwave and watch the element glowing as brightly as ever bouncing around the inside of the bulb. Fun light show. Ah, youthful exuberance!

In my late teens on a week long Algonquin trip, I toasted some bread in the bacon grease. I was able to do it because there weren't any 'parents' around to disuade me. It was the tastiest piece of bread I've ever had. , although the absolute agony of the gut wrench that followed made me not question my wife when she decided on the epidural years later!

Sorry for your loss Cliff. I have a Golden girl named Hallie (short for "Lady Haliburton") who's hitting 13 this month. We're already dreading the day and it's still hopefully at least a year or two away! What kind of dog is Andy? Got a picture?

Nothing going on at Burlington Mall CTC. Waterdown only had about 4 that were on sale and all sold out.
