  1. Thanks for the ideas all. I have enough for two meals so I will try a couple different ways.
  2. Went icefishing lakers for the first time.Did good for the lake we were on.I caught 3 from 18-22 inches and my fishing partner caught 2 including one monster 7 pounder witch he released. Anyways not having any experience with lakers,I am looking for everyones recipies or opinions on the best way to cook the fillets. Thanks to all who replie.
  3. Yep you will wipe out one card trying to make another. You will have to pull the card out of the boat unit to but it in the hand held. Also the last I looked the H20 is cheaper at Radio World than BPS.
  4. irishfield, The red sided dace were always my favorite as well but they are a protected spiecies now so I guess its golden shinners for me now.
  5. Sam will also have some info for you as to were the bite is on.I would give you some info but you can catch almost as many walleye in your livingroom as I have caught this year.I did hear the bite was good out off the George Street boatramp in Belleville and I see lots of people out there but I have not been out there yet. Good luck
  6. I went over to b.p.s. after the show. Every time I go there I get more frustrated with the place. I went there to buy 2 different baitcasters , niether were in stock and the sonar unit I wanted is $140.00 dollars more expensive than I can have it delivierd to my door for. I did buy a bunch of crappie baits, some gulp gobies and some hardware for making my worm harnesses. $250.00 spent and I could carry it all in a small plastic bag!
  7. I would like to become better at knowing were the fish , that I'm after on that outing , are going to be when I hit the water and I want to become better at flipping and pitching. In general I just want to become a better angler. I also want to get my daughter so she is a little more selfseficent when fishing.
  8. Nice ride danbouk.I bought one last year and love it. As for the show, I saw Dave , Rocky and Al . Dave and Rocky were great and I really liked their presentations. As for Al Linder all I can say is WOW what a speaker! It was truly a honor to listen to that man. He really opened my eyes and got me all worked up to get on the water. I found the show a little small but it will certanly grow if they keep having a group of speakers like that every year. It was worth every cent I spent and more. It was also a pleasure to meet some ofners there as well.
  9. We are going on Sat. Too bad I would have liked to have met you and had a "pop".
  10. Contact either one of the bait shops in Belleville (Sam at Carra Outdoors or Ron at Skevys)and they can set you up with just the current ice conditions or a guide if you wish.A guide is certainly a good choice if you are only fishing one day and want to get on fish without searching all over for them. Good luck
  11. I use the aqua-view scout with the infared lighting. It works great till it starts to get dark then you can't see crap.My buddies camera has the "spectral response lighting" and works much better at night or in low light conditions. If I was to buy a new camera it would be the quad 360.The 360 eliminates the camera positioning problem and it has the good lighting system. This said , any camera is better than no camera.
  12. Depends on were you fish . I was on 3-12 inches today.Your best bet for safe ice is off the Herkimer street ramp.Saw some guys out off of point anne but I don't know what the ice is like.Sam at Carra Outdoors has a report page on his website or you could call him or Ron at Skevy's in the morning or stop in and buy some minnows from either and get the low down on were to go. Good luck and play safe
  13. I'm calling it "take the family icefishing day".
  14. Canadian Tire have them for 99.99 as well.
  15. If you go to the Vexlar website you will see what they are and how they work.I think they even have a simulator on there. Some people would argue with me but my opinion is nothing beats a real flasher for ice fishing.I used the lcd units on ice and then a guy introduced me to the Vex and I had no problem shelling out the 400 bucks for a Vex. There is no false readings or inerference, what you see is what you get,it is real time, the display is the same brightness no mater what the temp is,the battery lasts for 4 solid days of fishing it is a nice compact and handy unit. That is just my 2cents. Wes
  16. I have both Vex and Aqu-view.If I only had room to take one or the other with me it would be the Vex every time.A camera is cumbersome to use , doesn't work well in dark water or at "prime time" , eats the battery up in only 3 hours of use and is usless for finding suspended fish. That all being said I won't be selling mine anytime soon.In the right conditions they are a valuable tool to have. You need to be in a hut or fishing on a nice day were it's not a big deal to play with it and get it were you want it and your battery will last longer if it is warm.If I was buying one now I would spend the extra and get the quad 360 so you have a 360 deg view and your bait is always on a screen somewere.A camera is a nice thing to have but a flasher is a must. Wes
  17. Like others said , icefishing with moosebunk on any lake in his area would be at the top of the list.Really any lake with monster pike would be cool.
  18. We were fishing on the BoQ one time and after putting the aqua-view down I saw a ice rod and reel laying on the bottom.I played around and finaly hooked it.I get it to the top and notice the line is all out so I start reeling it in and there is a 8 pound pike hooked to it.
  19. I have the rapala that ct sells and it is great.Hard to go back to a plain knife now.
  20. Heh drwxr, I am a machinist at a shop here in Belleville. You really can't go wrong with any trade right now.If a licenesed machinist walks in our plant and says he wants a job they ask him if he can start tomorrow (unless he is a axe murderer or something). It is very hard to find good tradesmen these days.A aprentership can be tough to find but once you get your ticket the jobs are out there if you want them.Do what you have to to get your ticket then you will have choice of jobs.Pay varies from shop to shop.We are unionized so the pay is very good for our area.Stay away from the automotive sweat shops if you can. They pay a crap wage and you really get crap training because some shops do the same part for years. The shop I work in do parts for the oil industry, power generation, minning and forestry.Check out some high profile companies like , Husky,Bombardjay(spelling like it sounds),Pratt and Whitney,General Electric etc. They usually have job opertunities posted on their websites. You may have to relocate to get one of these jobs but the pay and job security would be worth it.Hope this helps.Good luck. Wes
  21. Wow the people on this board never cease to amaze. What a thoughtfull thing to do. My hats off to all. Enjoy the painting and the memories Lew. Wes
  22. Yep works well. Yep containers leak. Threw a couple to the panfish at the dock and they ate it and did not spit it out.Threw a couple powerbait plastics of the same size and colour in and they ate them rite away but then spit it out.So I figure you will get bit on either but they will hold on the gulp a little longer. Yep I will buy some more. Wes
  23. Wow what a Mom!! Nice catch and a good looking midnight supper. Those kids sure are lucky.
  24. Congratulations Rich!!! You got something even cooler than a rockbass there brother!
  25. I also will be out on the bay .I'm sure it will be a zoo at the launches. Ya since they got rid of the Lake Ontario smallmouth factor it should mix things up a bit.It will be neat to see what the winning weights will be compared to other years. Good luck to all!
