  1. Sorry Lew. Don't know you from other than on this site, but if I were a dog, I would be very happy to be your dog condolences, Peter
  2. too narrow a boat/canoe to be doing that....even if it looks like fun
  3. Dog likely panting a lot. Still has his winter coat. Arctic breeds in Florida struggle. Watch for heat stroke. Delirious, crazy panting, get the hose out with fan and shade
  4. Looking at the Bass Pro flyer. Looks like this reel ($110) is very similar to the Abu Revo SX ($160). I'm guessing it's made by Abu. Would you pay the difference for the brand name reel? Are either of these any good? looking for a rip jigging and light trolling reel peter
  5. Love it. Sent it to all my friends and family
  6. Would have thought since Lakes Huron and Superior froze up this year, evaporation would be minimal. Nevermind all the snow People on Georgian Bay need a break
  7. Kudos to you for driving. How many tanks of gas?
  8. Makes sense. Thanks I'm guessing need to boil the syrup to half the volume?
  9. Gotta boil it down to a proper thickness. How will a candy thermometer help?
  10. Ice fishing doesn't count. I might be critical by May
  11. Neighbour of mine drilled and found a yard of ice, north east Pigeon Lake. Unbelievable! Won't be thawed til when, June?
  12. Glad your prices have come back down to earth -still a ways to go
  13. Had some thick, cooled syrup on a stick at Winterlude on the canal in Ottawa. Gotta be one of my favourite things to eat. Bought a litre of syrup at Costco. Any idea how much more I need to evaporate to get down to that thickness to try it here at home? The guy in Ottawa just had a trough of snow. He made 2x4 inch 1/2 inch deep slots in the snow and poured in warm thick syrup. then used a popcycle stick to roll out the syrup on to stick. SOOOO good. $3
  14. I know a guy that drives a 4 cyl for day to day and has a 10 yr old pickup for towing his boat and all the other things a pickup can do for you. not a bad idea if you have the room to park 2 vehicles
  15. $1500 each in Jan and Feb at my country office. Heat with heat pump and electric furnace. $500 in summer killer. I think of our friend McGuinty every month when I sign the cq
  16. Purchased a new vehicle last fall and after much looking and asking the guys on this site went with a new Toyota 4Runner. So far so good. $38,500 out the door with the end of year rebate. Other candidates were new Pilot, 3 yr used Tahoe (1/2 price of new). Sucks to spend the extra $ on gas for the times you need to tow in a year. But then there is the safety aspect of a larger vehicle. Does your trailer have brakes?
  17. Several charter/party boats at reasonable cost. Was there 2 yrs ago and hit heavy winds for 5 days. Nobody would go out. Didn't try around the bridges. should work. talk to local tackle shops. usually need to get shrimp/squid. Tides play a big role. Ask around. Lots of fish. Best, Peter
  18. well done
  19. As far as I know, if you trade a car in at a dealership, you pay tax only on the difference might apply here too
