  1. could donate them to the Boy Scouts
  2. I can see Ontario from the end of my driveway and hear if someone squeals a tire on the launch ramp. Calm today but was pretty fierce the last 2 days out of the NE.
  3. The Feds are not adding to the restricted and prohibited list , they are giving the RCMP the power to do that, the police will not only enforce the rules they will be making them now
  4. I fished Erie and Ontario , wind determined whether I went out on the in a boat or went to shore fishing on a river or yardwork
  5. Same here OI, haven't been in over 10 years and even then the last 2 times we parked at the Burlington Go station and took the train in to Union, still familiar enough with the University Yonge subway to get where I need to go even though it's been almost 50 years since my U of T days. They want to extend the train down here to Grimsby , fine if you want to go the long way around Burlington Harbour, think i'd just as soon still make the drive to Burlington, probably faster.
  6. Been here 34 years , never put my vehicles in my garage, well, boats excepted.
  7. One of the great ones, up there along with Joe Brooks and Lee Wulff, these guys were my fly fishing heroes in the 60's and 70's.
  8. We tried zoodles, zucchini done on one of those spiralizers instead of pasta spaghetti, not a fan, too watery, but spaghetti squash is another story, that stuff is great, either as spaghetti or a baked casserole with pasta sauce and several shredded cheeses mixed in, like a ziti.
  9. Try TSC, Tractor Supply Company , years ago, on the farm, we had an umbrella that clamped on the tractor to keep the driver out of the sun. I'm sure it could be clamped to a seat or gunwale of a tinner. edit: http://www.tscstores.com/RED-UMBRELLA-WITH-MOUNTING-BRACKET-P11178.aspx
  10. I make a lasagna with thin lengthwise strips of zucchini instead of noodles, cut on a mandolin, actually was pretty good for those watching their carbs. .. yeah, I know OI sacreligious
  11. I would guess by the aerial photos it is all spruce, closest thing to hardwood might be some aspen or stunted willows. Not really firewood.
  12. In winter when browse is scarce, the sound of chainsaw is like ringing a dinner bell to hungry deer.
  13. Really , deer are not spooked much by normal human activity, sounds and smells, unless you are talking some really remote area where they normally have little human contact I would think.
  14. Yeah , when I got my first pair of bifocals I thought I had shrunk a foot the ground seemed much closer . My uncle was a mechanic, he had a set of prescription bifocals with the reader at the top over 30 years ago for working under a vehicle up on a hoist. edit; somewhere I have seen flip down readers that you can attach to glasses maybe a Lee Valley catalog that would work for wading.
  15. Yes , They come with the eyeglass frames when you get glasses, they are polarized and attach with magnets. go down to easy clip video https://aspexeyewear.com/en/technologies/
  16. As a prescription eyeglass wearer I've been using these for 20 years now, convenient , lightweight and the sunglass is polaroid. https://aspexeyewear.com/en/brands/easyclip/
  17. I've fished Erie with dad starting in the late 50's. I remember he won 3rd in a tournament in the mid 70's with a 3 1/2 pound smallie, think 4 even won it. Today they cull those fish.
  18. check the opener if going in June, especially early
  19. Old schooler here too, mono for the most part. Will use a braid for deep water jigging or perching, dipsies ( Mono is a no starter on a dipsey) I just don't feel the low stretch is much of a factor in shallow under 20 foot depths. Trilene XL is my line of choice on spinners and XT on revolving spool reels and as a leader material for float fishing and fly fishing. it's cheap too
  20. Standing at the kitchen sink looking out the window a few Grackles landed in the previously mentioned maple this morning, first of the year, all the while the weatherman was talking winter storm warning on the TV.
  21. I remember working as a student forester surveying that land as part of a summer job with the Conservation Authorities Branch of the old Dept. of Lands and Forests the summer of 1970. Construction started shortly later, pretty weird something of that magnitude has come and gone in such a short span of time. edit: a biological survey , flora and fauna stuff
  22. Superstore had outside round roast on for $2.98 a pound a week or so ago. Should have bought a couple more. Even after 8 hours in the crock pot outside round is often dry and chewy, no fat, but 45 minutes in the Instant Pot pressure cooker along with 6 big potatoes, 3 monster carrots, a quartered onion, splash of Worcestershire, packet of dry onion soup mix, 2 bay leaves and 2 cups of water it came out fall apart tender so much that you couldn't really slice it . Thickened the liquid for a gravy with a bit of flour , leftovers tonight Lovin the pressure cooker, definitely worth it for soups stews and chilis, made from dried beans is way better than canned beans. edit: there was a stalk of celery in there too, like the flavour it adds to stew and pot roast
  23. Foran's launch here in town is free of ice , pier and shoreline is icefree for casting.
  24. I preferred heavier and longer , 8 footers and a long leader make netting tense. Running wire get a twilli tip .
