Moderna vaccine approved by Health Canada
dave524 replied to MJIG's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
Reading that they are considering using it as a single dose given that it is 80% effective as a single dose and 95 % effective as a 2 dose. Long time since I studied statistics , would twice the people with 80% immunity be better than half as many with 95 % ? Also, though they really didn't have enough time to study it would the immunity last as long ? -
Clouds like that were normal daily operation 40 years ago, I would come in from the south on HWY20 and at the top of the escarpment there would usually be a yellow blanket of smog low over the city. Don't know nothing about steel making , I worked in processing further down the chain.

dave524 replied to misfish's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
Isn't this ( Invermectin )very similar to the stuff we administer to our dogs monthly throughout the summer for the control of heartworm and other parasites ? edit: my dogs also get a shot for Lyme that used to be approved for humans but was withdrawn for side effects Just guessing but if Lyme ever hit pandemic proportions it would be reapproved for human use 😂 -

Trolling rod, planer board, downrigger advice
dave524 replied to 410001661's topic in General Discussion
Was never a fan of online boards. Ran a pair of homemade double boards off a mast in the front of the boats and releases were simply a box of rubber bands and shower curtain rings, the K.I.S.S. principle. -

Back in the day Lorne Green of L.G. Custom Tackle in Mount Hope told me the original Riggerstix were built on the brown fibreglass 10 wt. fly rod blanks when Fenwick/ Woodstream was in Niagara Falls , maybe you can source something similar if anyone still makes glass rod blanks. -

UK started vaccinating yesterday https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/uk-probing-if-allergic-reactions-linked-to-pfizer-vaccine/ar-BB1bLNga?li=AAggNb9 edit : now my wife checked into it and says Canada recommends that injections not be carried out in a facility without resuscitation equipment, scary stuff and people with a history of allergies were excluded from the trials -

I ran Ambassedeur 5500's on Fenwick 8 wt fiberglass fly blanks built as riggerstiks, loaded with 10 pound Trilene XT for all the time I fished Erie for Pickerel, they were more than adequate. Actually ran them for spring salmon too , a few 25 pound Kings came in on them too. Switched to 10 weight blanks and 6500's loaded with 14 XT for the big ones in the summer. -

The hardest part will be finding room for all the extra foam floatation with the added battery weight -
Bingo, we have a winner, seems they have been illegal for some time now, at least in Florida

Beauty pic, everytime I have seen one it has been sitting at eye level in a clump of evergreens. They are unbelievably tiny , under 8 inches and extremely tame.

The fishing has only improved since dad would put a green 5 1/2 Johnson in the trunk of the '52 Pontiac and we would rent a 16' cedar strip for 50cents an hour or $3 for the day from Ray Prophet of Ray's Boat Livery, drift fish with crayfish we dredged from a local pond. 5's are just as common now as 3's were back then . Zebra mussels made the water clearer and Gobies fattened them up.

I do a dry rub of garlic and onion powder, brown sugar, salt , pepper and paprika for a few hours in the fridge , then stand them up in the instant pot and do on high pressure for 22 minutes with a cup of apple juice, any more and you will have a hard time getting them out in one piece. Lay them flat on the broiler pan covered in foil for easy cleanup, baste with BBQ sauce and under the gas broiler of the kitchen stove .

You might be thinking of those Instant Pot electric pressure cookers ? I've got a couple, they do a cheap cut of roast beef to pot roast fall apart tender in a hour, same with pulled pork and baked beans from dry beans ( no presoaking ) in about the same. Though it may be a sin to the smoker guys here, they will do aa couple of racks of ribs in 22 minutes with a finish under the gas broiler with BBQ sauce for a quick rib fix.

Nice, my splake experience was limited to those laker backcross hybrids that we got in Georgian Bay tribs fishing Steelies in the fall in the late 80's. Some were a good size but never as nicely coloured up as that. They were good eating as long as you got them before the September closer as they were not included in the extended fall season.

Yup, I was park naturalist at Long Point Prov. Park, summers of 73 and 74, bad winds and the causeway was underwater and the water up almost to the front door of the park office and the road to the launch ramp flooded as well edit : lost a bunch of cottages on Hastings then too
