  1. Even though I wind baitcasters and other top mounted reels with my right , I wind anything that is slung under the rod with my left, I would prefer the handle on the other side even though it is a baitcaster. Another thing it would be hard to thumb the spool if you are lowering on freespool.
  2. A little more Celtic Soul Music for Backbay and others, 40 years later and Van the Man is still an incredible musician. I 've got this concert on DVD and it is one of my most played.
  3. This is still getting better to me after almost 50 years, epic album today but not a hitmaker then.
  4. I've got the original Vanilla Fudge album on vinyl. They were a big influence on Deep Purple and Jon Lord with their organ sound.
  5. I think you are thinking about " Lucky Strike Baits" They were a well known Peterborough company in the day
  6. My Dad used to tournament cast against him when I was in diapers, I know he has mentioned him. Back then the Toronto Anglers and Hunters held the casting competitions at the CNE., the Sportsman Show did start until the mid 50's.
  7. Recently seen both Winwood and Eric Burden on vids here, I've always been a fan of British Blues/Rock of the 60's , rather than the teeny booper British boy bands of that era, This is pretty awesome to my ears.
  8. We didn't do rinks as a kid, I grew up in Pelham Township, Niagara in the midst of fruit farm country. Ponds were the ice surface of choice, used for irrigation and filling of sprayers . One farm even supplied benches for changing skates. I didn't skate on artificial ice in a rink till I was 19 and went to University in 69.
  9. Kudos to my Town, I was just over to the town hall getting my dog license and I see they have an outdoor ice surface with boards there. Thinking it was a flooded rink and in danger of melting yesterday I asked and it does have refridgeration , that's what in the small bulding adjacent, the guy said it will keep ice up to 7C and appears to be free for use. edit: I'm guessing it is similar to the setups there use for the winter classic NHL games
  10. I remember when Mitchell 300's were under 20 bucks and buying a new 68 Beetle for $1995 , actually I splurged and paid a 100 more for the deluxe model with the AM radio and a gas heater.
  11. At Christmas we didn't do fishing stuff as a kid, Christmas was a time for guns and ammo. My birthday was May 8th, it was a tradition to go trout fishing in Norfolk County, usually Big Creek for my birthday and I would get new stuff for the trip.
  12. I too took my test in an Austin, 1966 in a '59 A55 Austin Cambridge. It had the directional turn lights but previously we had an '49 and a '52 that had the flip out arms , they were retired b4 I started to drive. As to turning left on a amber, if I see that the intersection has an advance green, I often will now wait at the white bar on the pavement without entering the intersection unless I see a break in on coming traffic, wait out the red and go on the next advance green. Had a few scares over the years with oncomers who have plenty of time to stop running the amber. This however really PO's the vehicles behind me and my wife if she is with me. Great to be old
  13. My hearing is basically shot, tinnitus and hearing aids, but I still get a chuckle when I see young people with fancy 200 buck headphones on a mp3 player, such a waste
  14. I just use the Microsoft folder/file system for a hundred or so music DVD's and nearly a thousand CD's. Folders by artist and folders inside of that for each album, windows arranges it all by alphabetical order for me I always listen to CD's in their entirety though with an old version of Winamp, guess if I wanted a mix by different artists I'm SOL. Most of my music is in .flac format only convert to .mp3 for portable players.
  15. Question??? back when rear wheeled drive cars/bias ply tires were the only option we only put snows on the back, are we talking all four wheels now for all vehicles or just those of the front wheel drive variety?
  16. think of the lives that could be saved if we mandated helmets not just for motorcycles but all vehicles, if it only even saves just one life
  17. Sounds like a slot limit would work, protect the big trophy fish/spawners and let those so inclined to keep a few smaller eaters for a meal.
  18. We don't get a lot of snow here, bought a snowblower when I retired in 08, never used it one winter and maybe 5 times last year , that was the most. I just don't go out when the roads are bad. Not an option for most but I would be really pisssst if I had to put them on the Jeep , it does OK for what we get with the Goodyear's Wranglers on it. I would probably get them if I lived in a snow belt and had to go out every day.
  19. Asked my wife if it was Wed or Thurs, she said it was Fri, retirement is great

I totally agree! Been there for 20+ years now.

  20. yes it is like you purchasing the 30 foot tip section of a weight forward flyline and then using mono as the the running line instead of the light level flyline that normally comes with a WF line . You lose in finesse but gain in depth and distance cast, the finesse is not critical when fishing sub surface. Google shooting head flyline and you should get the idea. Mono is good for a sinking head but for floating heads you can get light level floating flyline specifically for that use.
  21. Definitely 8 wt if you want to get down , with fly tackle the light lines don't sink that fast or as deep cause they are lighter, whodda thunk My fav for dragging the depths was a 280 or 300 grain 30 foot shooting head on a 8/9 wt rod, used a 100 feet 20# or so Maxima Mono for shooting line on top of the backing. Cast like a bullet and worked 15 to 20 foot depth great with Muddlers or Wooly Buggers for Haliburton Smallies.
  22. I too saw a big hunk of green hanging out of his mouth.
  23. you need to press #1 for English
  24. I know the voices in my head aren`t real, but sometimes they have some really good ideas
  25. Whipper Billy Watson for sure. My age group seemed to be hit hard with polio. A 3 room school and a dozen or so in each grade, 2 kids my age were survivors, both crippled. He and Easter Seals had a camp on Lake Erie out Long Beach /Burnaby way in the 50's/60's for crippled kids . He was a really decent caring fellow, didn't much follow wrestling though.
