  1. If you looked "Rest & Relaxation" up in the dictionary I'm sure you would see some of these pics! What a great spot!
  2. Great report. That looks like a summer to remember!
  3. The exact same thing happened to me. Worst part is I knew better just forgot the backing. I like the mono backing, saves on braid. I've never tried it but my buddy puts 6" of hockey tape on the arbor and then ties the braid on. No slipping there either.
  4. Great report. Congrats on finding the summer crappie (even if it was by accident!). They sure are elusive in the summer! You fishing partner looks like a natural.
  5. I can't help with your question but my buddy got that suit last year and he loved it. I have to start pricing them out too! And it's never too early!!! Bring on the ice!!
  6. Thanks everyone! It was probably our best family fishing trip yet. A great time and great fishing! The smallies had the kids (and me) glowing for hours after! There's nothing better than a fish like that to get them hooked. My plan is coming together nicely! I'm already planning next year!
  7. There's some great shirts there!! I LOVE it when MY WIFE lets me go fishing! Sad but true!
  8. Great report and pics! Beauty walleye! It's humbling fishing with your kids!! You spend hundreds of dollars on gear, days on the internent researching techniques / hotspots / weather patterns / etc, then you go and hours in a boat for a couple of fish. They show up with the $20 bait cast combo, a worm and hook, and smash em!! LOL!! Life's not fair! My kids are the same. Conservation, it seems, is not a natural instinct. They want to keep everything. We have the "grow bigger - have babies" discussion every time we go fishing. Plus, I'm not cleaning a 4" perch!
  9. Those are some nice looking fish!! Smallies on Erie are definitely on my "To Do" list. Thanks for sharing!!
  10. We sent the first 2 weeks of August camping at McRae Point Provincial Park on Lake Simcoe. The park itself is average. It's clean with big sites but very little privacy were we were. However, it is on Simcoe and the fishing was great. Over the 2 weeks we had family and friends come and stay. It was a great time and truly memorable. Here are some of the fishing stats for the 2 weeks: - Everyone in my family beat there PB in perch, all 6, including the wife! - My son beat the families PB smallmouth. He landed a monster 18 incher - I caught my PB brown bullhead - Over the 2 weeks I took 15 different kids fishing in my boat - I helped 4 kids catch there first fish Some photo highlights: Here are my fishing partners! We had some great adventures on the water these last two weeks. Here's me returning from a typical fishing trip in "The Bomber" (12' springbok). We call it "The Bomber" because there seams to be a lot dropped when we're out in it! Here's my eldest daughter help the wife with here new PB perch. The kids had a blast in our canoe "The Mighty Bobber". It pulled in a lot of fish! Here are some of the other perch we landed. Most were caught on 1/8 and 1/16 oz jigs with palmered marabou feather in white and chartreuse, tipped with a worm. What's a Simcoe report without some smallies! I didn't get much time to target them, I stayed with the perch action for the kids. I caught one while drop shotting a white strickzone slammer. The rest came on small jigs while targeting perch. Here's my boys monster smallie. 18.25 inches. I didn't weigh him but it was a solid fish. It barely fit in my 4" fish measuring tube. It was easily 12" in girth. Out fished by my kids again!!! He rubbed that fact in all week. Here's my daughters small mouth. It's her first and a solid PB at 14.5"! It's also her biggest fish ever! Here are a couple of mine. My new PB brown bullhead. Caught this guy with a large silver spinner in 20 FOW when targeting smallies in the evening. Out of the 100s of fish we caught over the 2 weeks we kept about 30 for a couple of fish frys. Hand sized perch fillets!! Fresh Perch coated with Salt & Vinegar chips and fried in butter!!! It doesn't get any better then that! It was a great trip and I look forward to returning next year.
  11. I love the river fishing, it takes me back! Those river smallies are tough little guys. I love the red eyes!
  12. Agreed, to cull fish you need a live well that meets the requirements in the regs (see definition on page 8). You can C&R but here is the problem. Lets say you have your limit of 4 fish and they are not in a live well (can't be released). Your 5th fish is mortally wounded. You can not release it because it is illegal to abandon fish or let flesh spoil and if you keep it your over your limit. Catch 22! Your best bet is to keep your limit minus 1. Then C&R until your ready to leave and take the "one more fish" home. Also, the regs state "Generally, daily catch limits include all fish that are retained for any period of time and not immediately released" (page 9 - ONTARIO'S CATCH AND RETAIN RULES). However, the word immediately is open to interpretation....
  13. Wow, what a hog!!! You "walleye machine" is living up to it's name!
  14. Great report! Thanks for sharing! Hip in Bobcaygeon ... I'm jealous!
  15. Nice looking ride! Looks like she has all the bells and whistles.
  16. I just stumbled across a new iPhone App. It's called iFish Ontario. http://www.ifishontario.com/ I'm just starting to play with it but it looks like it has potential. It will let you search for lakes by name, location, or target species of fish. It also has an "Essential" section. Some of the highlights of this area are a fish ID guide and a fishing regulations section (links to MNR website PDFs). It also has a solar / lunar calendar and a bunch of info on fish like knots, cleaning fish, etc. It looks like a great app for someone who is new to fishing.
  17. I agree, that can't be right. The limits has to apply to where the fish were caught. What about slot size. If I catch a big walleye ( > 50 cm ) in FMZ 16 and then bring it back to FMZ 17 where I live it's now illegal? Doesn't sound right.
  18. A couple real nice fish! Congrats!
  19. Thanks for the reminder!!! I'm reaching for the phone now....
