  1. I would think that the 30lb thrust would be plenty to move a boat under 12ft long. I assume you are planning to use it at conservation areas and smaller waters and don't plan to go out on any big lakes. In my Sportspal I always take two batteries and hook one up to my fishfinder. This way if my main battery gets weak I can swap it out with the other one like a reserve tank. Then I hook the weaker battery up to the fishfinder and keep fishing. I buy my batteries at medical supply stores (wheelchair and scooter deep cycle) then you don't pay tax on them. Don't forget, you'll need an operators card or risk a fine if the CO's check you out.
  2. Cool photos of the crater process. Still looks pretty cold out there with the snow around.
  3. I started with a $279 Crappy tire special, that was almost 5 years ago. It's only 9'6" but was great for so many different fishing situations. And only weighing 40lbs, I could easily transport it on top of my car. I've been testing and renting at least 3 different boats every year since. I took the plunge on a new one in October but will always keep the little rec yak for my daughter and as a second yak for fishing buddies to use. I see quite a few of those pelicans out there and that price is cheaper than most other "big name" rec kayaks. As long as you aren't 6'2" or taller, or 220 lbs or heavier, you'll be fine in a 10ft yak.
  4. Too many former hab players in important positions. They are hired because of what they did, as players, not what they can do as GM or coach. And Carey Price sucks.
  5. Great tune. This is my favourite version of that song.
  6. Congrats on the new ride. Now all you need are his and hers kayaks on the roof.
  7. Excessive brain damage and death.
  8. Took a walk today to see how one of my fave crappie ponds is thawing out. Not melting fast enough for my liking.
  9. Well that kept me busy for 20 minutes. Cool game, thanks for posting it.
  10. Again I have to take my hat off to FORD for not trying to weasel themselves some taxpayers cash. I think they will be the only North American car company left next year. I've slagged FORD in the past, the only car I ever owned that needed it's motor & transmission replaced was a FORD, but they are way ahead in the restructuring game. Who would buy a Chrysler or GM now knowing your warranty will outlast the company?
  11. Well done Anton, I'll be looking forward to more reports and pics from your adventures.
  12. Both Guelph and Mountsberg lakes are good for pike fishing, once they thaw out. Mountsberg doesn't open for fishing until pike opener so you'll have to wait till May. Guelph may have some spots you can shore fish after this weekend as the ice melts. Try the Grand river almost anywhere from shore.
  13. Don't forget to wear your BRUINS jersey to the concert. Harry Sinden is Gordie's Godfather. Wore mine to a Columbus Ohio show during the Fully Completely tour and Gordie made a point of giving me a high five between songs. After seeing the band half a dozen times in Ontario, and having to battle to get within 20ft of the stage, it was cool to see them in a small venue with under 200 people watching.
  14. Seen them many times before but they would sound nice at this venue. Saw Blue Rodeo from the side balconies years ago, great show.
  15. Live bait (minnow) under a float would be my first choice. You can even let it drift under the ice with the current. If not, try a big jig and 6" rubber shad body. Retrieve it slowly on the bottom with long pauses.
  16. I was happy with my team's pick ups. Bruins got the left shooting forward (Recchi), they wanted for the power play to replace Sturm (out for the season). Had to give up two AHL players for him but also received a 2nd round pick from Tampa. Then getting a big, tough, right shooting "D" man (Montador) that can allow them to put Hnidy in the pressbox for insurance purposes. For him they gave up another AHL player with potential to be a 3rd line NHL'er. I was hoping that they would move Fernandez for a pick, since Thomas and Rask can easily handle the goaltending duties. More hype than real substance this year.
  17. 1. YES 2.NO
  18. No rod holders. I had one on my first yak and I took it off after a couple trips. It was on the front and always got in my way. Unlike most yakfishermen, I'm a minimalist. Most guys have a crate with 2 to 4 rods and tons of lures as well as landing nets or lip-grippers, fish finders, gps units, anchor trolley systems, stake out poles and dash boards to mount everything onto. I take my water bottle, safety kit, camera, a plano box or two and two rods. In my PFD I'll have a sharpening stone, measuring tape, pliers and some jigs and power grubs.
  19. Pure has the right answer, go to yakfisher.net. Most of the guys there are OFC'ers as well. I agree that a sit in yak is the way to go for most river, pond and small lakes. In your budget I would keep an eye out for a Necky Manitou Sport. It's 11ft long and as fast a yak as you'll find under 16ft. It has a large cockpit, lots of storage space and a very comfortable seat. I rented one last August and landed this 43" musky from Pigeon lake out of it.
  20. Here's one to get you all through a cold and windy day while we wait for the sun to come out and end this long lonely winter.
  21. I use surgical tubing from an aquarium services store. Gotta have the good vibrations from the "R" bend.
  22. Years ago, when I drove my motorcycle around Lake Superior, I fell in love with the little town of Rossport. It just seemed to be a paradise on earth. Would love to retire there someday.
  23. Standing and casting is no problem Golfisher, the bottom of a Sportspal is flat. This is the same reason it stops gliding the second you stop paddling.
  24. When I bought mine in 1994, a hunter told me he could let go with both barrels of his 12 gauge broadside without so much as a wobble. They are extremely stable but a bathtub would be easier to paddle. I've never even had a close call in 15 years with mine.
