  1. I was out trying for crappie, but found a bunch of carp and suckers in a hole up a creek arm, so I broke out the old scent bottle and went after them. It is the third and smallest carp I've landed in a kayak. Can't beat them for a great sleigh ride.
  2. I was using a 1/16oz jig & grub combo that I covered with some old Dr. Juice scent for walleye that I had in my vest from almost 20yrs ago. I knew it would come in handy some day.
  3. Great informative report. The smiles on the faces of little ones make it all worthwhile.
  4. Went to Guelph lake conservation area as today was their opening for the season. Fished from 1:30pm till 5:30pm catching one small hammerhandle pike and this carp. It was 26 inches long and pulled my kayak for 20 yards before I could land it. I also found this jitterbug hanging in a tree. It'll need some new hooks but it'll cover the $4.25 cost of admission to the park. Had a little trouble with high winds at the start but after a short rain it calmed down nicely. Glad I decided to bring the rain gear. They are doing a demo day tomorrow and Sunday for Swift canoes and kayaks if anyone is interested.
  5. I use a 6500C4 for trolling and a 5600C4 for casting bucktails. I have had these reels for several years without any problems. The hardcore guys, fish nothing but musky everyday the season is open, have said they don't stand up to hard use.
  6. At the mouth of deep bay, where it meets the main lake, I've caught pike on spinnerbaits, largies on sluggos and walleyes on jig & grub combos.
  7. Shorelines where willow trees are growing, anywhere willow trees are growing.
  8. You should look through the search feature for posts on these areas from the past, or wait till season opens to get up to date info. Some kayak fishermen I know were there last week, when the park opened, and could not find any fish.
  9. There are walleye there as well but all the species you mentioned are out of season.
  10. Look for willow trees on the shoreline and fish near there.
  11. Both pike and bass are closed right now so you should probably wait till those seasons open. There are perch and crappie in Island lake, but they are even harder to find. Small jigs and grubs or tubes under floats will work.
  12. Here is a link to a Eagles nest camera with 3 baby eagles. They were born several days apart and range drastically in size. I could watch them all day. http://www.hancockwildlifechannel.org/stat...090302200021473
  13. That is just sad. I'd rather watch baby seals getting clubbed. Jamie, you're not still mad at the one that hooked you, are you?
  14. Good luck and remember we like lots of pics with your report. Looking forward to hearing how you did.
  15. Kayaking with my daughter and trying for a few crappie and perch while we are out there.
  16. I believe "Knipex" are the ones favoured by musky hunters everywhere.
  17. Great link, thanks for posting.
  18. I was waiting till May 1st to put it in the classifieds section. Have to keep it in the OFC family you know .
  19. I'll sell you my 14' transom model complete with re-enforced padded swivel seats, bolted in ribs and drink holders for $500. It's got some miles on it, but doesn't leak. Just add a trolling motor and battery and you're good to go. I've switched to kayak fishing and since I've been laid off since November cash is a little tight. PM me if you're interested.
  20. Ouch! Thanks Jamie, I've been waiting to see this footage since last year. Another good reason to use a lure with a single set of hooks on it when fishing for musky from a kayak. At least then you know where the hooks are, in the fish. I also believe if you hand landed it instead of trying to use the Boca grip thingy you could have avoided the carnage. But that would have made for a much less dramatic video .
  21. Take the canoe if your going to Wildwood conservation area, you'll be glad you did. I always did well with rattle raps for pike there, due to the murky water, or minnow baits with rattles in them. I mainly fished the end farthest from the dam because no gas motors are allowed, but you should find some near the sailing club across the lake from the boat launch.
  22. I'll be at Pigeon at the same time, end of July. Plenty of good fishing right out from Elim, if you can avoid being run over by waterskiers. Take some 1/8oz jigs and grubs for the kids and some spinnerbaits, rapalas and musky killers for hunting bass and musky. If you see a kayak around, come over and say Hi.
  23. bassmaster4 is right, but, where else can you win big bucks with a 24" pike.
  24. I've seen more musky photos from a pontoon boat this last year than ever before. Might be the new trend in fishing. I can see many advantages and only one drawback, speed.
  25. I have mine attached to my trolling motor which always goes along when I rent a boat. I mount the display on a frisbee so I can move it anywhere in the rental boat.
