  1. Go to your local feed store and get a bag of whole corn Fill some pails around 50% full of the dried corn then top up with water (you can add kool-aid and sugar of you want it flavored... I buy "deer feed" at tsc... It's already coated in molasis) Leave that in an area that gets some sunlight for 3+ days or boil it until the kernels start splitting 1 bag of corn for $10-$15 will give you 3 x 4 gallon pails of bait If your fishing spot isn't far from home or work try to go and feed at least a gallon every few days on the same spot around the same time you plan to fish (like 7am if that's when you usually like to fish) The night before you fish go spread an entire pail of corn When you show up in the morning you should get some really fast bites... Sometimes only seconds after casting if all goes to plan... Don't be shy to throw a couple handfulls of bait in after every bite as well to keep the group feeding YouTube hair rig and you can use the same soaked feed corn on the hair as your free baits you chum with... You don't need big fancy 8oz sinkers... Just like a 1-3 oz slip sinker with a hair rig below a swivel...
  2. Rod sounds like it should handle the smaller spectrum of musky lures which is fine... Especially from a kayak... As far as a reel keep in mind if you use a reel that doesn't have sufficient drag you'll be rod pumping fish in instead of cranking them in... Or the lighter drag will extend the fight which is bad news for musky when the water is warm... Just something to consider...
  3. We stopped the spearing on the raisin river... We got land owners to put up no trespassing signs and press charges for trespassing.... MNR and OPP helped support this for the 2 week spawning period...
  4. I've developed a good list of subscriptions on YouTube that give me my fishing show fix when I need it...
  5. Now I think this is rediculous but I just saw a local news video showing the local First Nations tribe stocking Atlantic salmon into several tribs leading into the lake st Francis portion of the st lawrence river... Hope the musky don't develope an appetite for em... Lol
  6. Switching to the all seasons this week... If we do get snow... Which I doubt... All seasons are fine... Winters are too soft... I don't wanna wear em out in this +10-15 weather we are getting
  7. not sure why you say it's lazy... That's like me saying your lazy for using a power auger... Or a power drill... Or most other power tools... Lol I've used blades and I use electric now (for walleye anyways) and I'll never go back... Many people that have seen me clean fish have now gone electric...
  8. A bit of a side note If any TILLER guys are reading this and are considering hydraulic steering for a big tiller it makes a HUGE difference. I run a 50hp without I often drive my cousins 90hp with And I also use my brothers 115hp without I can honestly say my old 9.9 and 25hp motors were harder to use then the 90hp with hydraulics...
  9. I think mine are size 5 blades with a size 1 hook... On the st lawrence I'm usually running between 3-5 oz weights... The bigger blades would need bigger weights to keep em down... I don't think it would be enjoyable running a size 8 blade with a 6+oz weights... In my opinion if you want bigger fish go to the cranks..
  10. eBay Rollie and Helens musky shop Vmc black nickel 4x strong are the best I've used... Unfortunately they only go to 5/0 Hard to find good musky hooks
  11. X2 Bigger boats help in "chop" but anything 3-4' high an bigger it doesn't matter what size boat your pounding hard My brother has a 20' Deep v ranger and we have had tournaments where I was hurting at the end of the day... That being said in my 16 footer comfort would have taken a back seat to safety that day lol
  12. I've run my cousins 18 Lund pro guide 90 merc 4 stroke a bunch of times AWESOME boat... Especially with the power steering on the tiller... My old 9.9 was harder to handle then this 90 I was also recently looking at the Roplene boats from triumph... But these boats don't have any frills... Very basic... If I could get a new tiller boat tomorrow and money wasn't a factor for the purchase I'd likely get a Lund pro guide 1775 (17' 9") with a 90 hp 4 stroke (max hp) with power steering This also has 9' rod storage wich is a big deal for is musky guys
  13. If you can get a 40 hp yammy for 7k like you said jump all over that !!!!!! That's a great price considering they're around $6000-$6500 USD
  14. Works like the old "Chinese finger trap" For carp we splice leadcore to make a loop with basically the same concept... No knot
  15. I've used the "markers" to color your minnows It basically only colors the slime on the minnow so after a short time in the river the color is gone
  16. What I do like is putting your hook inside it when traveling.... Nice and safe... Especially with kids around
  17. All it means to me is usually I get to fish open water earlier... Less ice melts faster Also you can be sure you'll get better weed growth with an early spring... The spawning seasons will be well protected unlike a late spring...
  18. Thanks for the advise everyone Really appreciate it
  19. Sent St.Croix a quick message the ought their website at like 2 am and they just called me. The line guide is getting shipped out today for $15 shipped. I'll call paddletails and see what Ed says... My buddy knows him well... if that all fails Pete I'll see about the Rolly fellow Or speil I was hoping to avoid shipping it... As the cost on an 8.5 foot rod would be high Thanks for the help
  20. Hello Picked up a rod with a damaged line guide on it PM86XHF st croix premier musky rod It's the second eye from the handle For now the ceramic insert is held in place with epoxy but I wanna fix it right The eye is messed up enough that i'd like it completley replaced Question #1 Does anyone know of a rod repair guy within say 1 hour of Cornwall Ontario? Maybe Ottawa? Montreal? Question #2 This is for the builders/repair guys.... How do I find out the make and model and size of the broken guide if I wanted to repair it myself? I inherited some rod building gear from my grandfather and this seams like a fairly simple fix Question #3 What is a fair price to pay for a repair like this if I go that route? Any help is appreciated... Especially from the rod artists on this board Thanks for looking Mike
