Trolling Musky Lures, getting caught in weeds
mike rousseau replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
I've heard of guys trolling jerkbaits like sledges as well... They wobble pretty nice and won't dive very deep Don't be afraid to run a regular bait close up... Some guys fish as close as 5-6 feet back Shortest line I've ever caught on is 20' back which is really close when your think that's only a boatlength -
Depends on the brand Most brands x heavy is similar to a st Croix heavy (in my opinion) Depends what you want to cast/troll If its rapalas and small in lines like musky killers then a MH is fine I cast 10" jerks... Mag dawgs... Medusas... 10" cranks... Minimum I will ever own is an 8' heavy st Croix or an XH in most other brands I love love love my 8.5' XH st croix... Makes the big lures feel not so big and a lot easier to manage Also you don't want a dinky rod when trolling 4-5-6-7 mph with a big crankbait

Run a shorter line The treble at the top of the leader works -
Night fishing is another great option Last year I fished once a week after dark from the start of May till mid October It's cooler on those Gordimer days... No sun to worry about... No other boats... And most consistent walleye bite I've ever seen

Hello gang I'm googling like a fat kid on a smartie but wanted your opinions I was fishing all day today... Started my motor around 15 times... Ran at WOT for extended periods Went to start my motor at the last spot and nothing... No slow turn or anything... And my trim wouldn't work... Ended up getting it started with a rope and when I touched the trim button the motor shut down Got off the water and when I got to the gas station the trim worked again so I turned the key to see if it would turn over and nothing... Then the trim wasn't working again either I checked all the fuses already Sonar is reading 12.4 I think... And first dip when I turn the key or try to trim... All my pumps are powered fine... When I turn the key halfway to the "run" position I can hear some faint noises so there is power getting in Any suggestions? Thanks Mike

So my son is that kid that cries at parties... Swimming... School... And now soccer... Luckily being on dayshift now I'm around more to teach my kids life lessons that they can hold the rest of their life and help them through tough situations... Most people hope their doing the right thing, myself included, however we are all just learning as we go and hope we do a good job for our kids... Anyways While flipping through Facebook the other day my wife stumbled on a little story... She was part way through before she realized it was about me and my son... It felt really good that others support how we are handling our shy/nervous child... I actually got a little choked up when I read it and the comments... Below is the Facebook post made by a complete stranger....

I'll try voltaten thanks I have no issues wearing the arm band whever I fish... Just another tan line for others to point out... Lol What I feel did me in was while trolling rod in hand with cranks and if you get a little weed you snap your rod really hard to shake/break it off... I do that a hundred times a day not to mention hook sets on fish.... Hopefully I can control it going foreword... Might have to do more perch fishing loo

Well at the ripe old age if 31 I may have developed tendonitis through the repetitive movements of fishing (till the day I die I'll say it's cause the fish I catch are too big lol) Self diagnosed bit I'm calling the doctor tomorrow for an appointment... Anyone else develope any injuries like this? Were you able to figure out a solution? Mike

Did you get to use any of the new gear/bait? -
I believe there are health issues involved and the company has closed He was part owner of a fishing store and it closed up as well He's from Cornwall What he makes isn't difficult to make yourself and it isn't difficult to make a superior product yourself... I can snell and hand tie a harness in around 2 minutes in my boat... I have a small kit with hooks... Beads... Blades... Clevis'... And keep some 10/20/40lb flouro in my box...
