  1. Still 2 months in the boat for me hopefully... Only get 3 months if ice here at the most
  2. Can also change your aproach... When it's really cold I use pliers to water release fish... Looking into a lip grip of some sort for handling keepers while unhooking them...
  3. Nice job... Those first 3 walleye pice the fish look really skinny...
  4. Yup Get a code reader... Got one a few years ago and it's saved me and my friends and family thousands...
  5. Wow! Just found 2 magazine articles of grandpa fishing with Karl Kalonka 25 years ago.
  6. Thank you everyone for your kind words I really appreciate it It helps
  7. Forgot to mention that he left me his shore lunch kit he used as a guide... Custom pan... Burner... And wood case... Lighter... 5lb tank and a bit of pepper... That's all he put on his fish... A bit of pepper...
  8. Well I'm now home alone for the first time in the past 24hours and don't know what to do with myself. Last night I received an emergency call at work from my mother. The hospital had called her to tell her that my grandfather had taken a turn for the worst and asked that I come get her. We were in his hospital room in less then 30 minutes but it was too late. My grandfather had already passed away. We weren't extremely close but he still had a huge influence on my life. My grandfather was a full time fishing guide on the St.Larence as well as a rod builder. He has been in several magazines and caught fish I could only dream of.... One of the most meaningful item we have come across so far is a log of every rod he ever sold... Basically a list of names of all the greatest local fisherman over the past 30-40 years... They all used his rods... My name was there... My dad... My uncle... And all the other names I heard in the fishing tales growing up. Then we found 2 custom rods that he had made but never sold... And in his tackle box was 2 beautiful diawa reels in crown royal bags... So my brother and I will each have a handmade combo to remember him by... Anyways here's a pic I found that completely sums him up I'll miss you forever grandpa "Biss"
  9. Nice thick fish... Loving the fall fatties
  10. Great job boys That last one is a beauty
  11. Nice tiger Never caught one myself... And sweet troller fish...
  12. I've never had any musky lure fail... I can buy 6 10"jakes for that price... Or 3 14"... If it's a lure design that is unique of hard to duplicate then no problem forking over $100... I just don't understand why some wood baits are $50 and others are $150... Or 8" is $45 and 10" is $70... Lol... Same amount of work to make an 8" as a 10"... Just an extra 2" of wood
  13. Found a 10" hooker used for $55 CAN shipped last night... These baits have a nice large profile... So I bought it to try... Also found a wick onez bait but oh man they're pricey for basically a fancy Jake.. I'm really leaning towards a 14" Jake because I love the 10" jake and have caught a lot of fish on them... Biggest issue with these larger bait it's picking a color... I don't want 5x 14" Jakes... Lol Thanks for all the input so far everyone... At least I have some names to keep an eye out for
  14. I thought they were a 9" bait... So shorter then a stalker but fatter
  15. Look at that belly!!! The fish is pretty thick too... Lol... Jk
  16. I tend to avoid "cheap" tackle... We do have a "wall of shame" at the cottage covered in lures that just didn't pan out for us... Gotta be 50 lures on there.... Every so often we pull a few down and try em again... My boys Mickey Mouse rod did troll up an 8lb walleye 2 years ago... That was impressive... Lol
  17. Lol 2 feet long! eBay is tricky without names of lures to search... That's what I'm looking for... Lure names
  18. Looks like it should have a trigger and bullets.... Awesome rod!!
  19. Do you use these and have success with these? Like look really cheaply made IMO
  20. Talk about a lure that's no longer made and cost a fortune... Rub it in why don't ya... Lol
  21. Hey everyone.. Looking for a few large (over 10") trolling baits for musky... And more importantly where can I get them? Id LOVE to find a larger version of a "drifter stalker" or Wiley looking lure... Also considering a 14" Jake... The 13" grandmas didn't work for me but 10" Jakes do good here so maybe the 14" Jake will work... I'd also love to know what works for you personally... Nice to steal a bit of your confidence when your looking at lures $50-$150 each! Lol Thanks Mike
  22. My trolling combos float... Also every trolling crank I have ever seen floats... Before you bother with a leash put your trolling combo in the water and see if it floats... Of it does it's kinda pointless to have leashes... I had a set of leashes and they were more trouble then useful...
