  1. Nice! Always a little sweeter to get into them after a few tough outings. Good eats man! TDunn
  2. Wow! That has to be one of the most unique reports I have ever read! What an impressive decade with all the amazing fish and experiences! Very cool! TDunn
  3. Great post! I had 2 friends almost die 2 winters ago. Pilot light went out and gased them. They were in the building for more than 14 hours which included waking up, realizing something was wrong but passing back out. This happened several times! One guy got out the door finally and ditched his truck a few times going next door. He got help and they went and pulled the other guy and the dog out. Dog survived by jamming its nose down at the gap below the front door. They were in some serious trouble for the first little while but thankfully they both pulled through without to much serious damage to thier bodies or brains. Freaky....let me tell you I check the pilot light/propane everynight at camp before I go to sleep...... TDunn
  4. Nice! I already can't wait to hit the rivers..... TDunn
  5. That was exciting! Awesome video Ben, makes you wish you were there! TDunn
  6. Amazing fish Aaron! TDunn
  7. Wow! Thats a tank man! TDunn
  8. I'm glad you appreciate it Dan. I love to float but there is a few places where bouncing is hands down the best method. The best steelheader I know won't ever put a float on. Yes it was TDunn
  9. I wear my uninsulated gander mountain H2O bibs all winter even though I own cabelas insulated guidewear bibs....I seem to use them more in the boat during spring/fall. Long johns, thermals and then some jogging pants for layers usually. TDunn
  10. Ya man all whities except for a few menominee in the one pic above the deer! Thanks for the kind words! TDunn
  11. Nice, you noticed the wildeye! I just ordered 20 packs of them. It was a lure I had in my box for a few seasons before I gave them a good go. As soon as I started catching fish on them, I find out they are discontinued. Even to our surprise, they have been one of the best lures for my friends and I over the last 2-3 winters for brookies/lakers through the ice. Both those lakers were caught on wildeyes also.... TDunn
  12. Ya man! It can be awesome! But I will admit to having some very long days out there of nothing too.... If guys are into catching/eating whitefish it is a great place to fish. Lots of bays just off highway 17 with easy access, lots of fish around, not much pressure (except for one bay) and a big limit for those looking for some meat.....12 fish... Wax worms, micro tear drops, and an ultra lite is the norm for the whities on the big lake around here. Haha I even waited a few extra days to see if you would break trail first! Any thoughts on why they seem to max out at 17-18" inches in that lake/pond? A big thanks to everyone for the kind words! TDunn
  13. Hey Guys! It has to be the better part of a month or more since I have posted a report. With the extended steelhead season this year, I was able to fish quite comfortably into the new year. Not very often are we able to enjoy the best of both worlds up here. Jan 11 was actually the last day I did the trek down to the rapids. Typically, I fished for 2 hours( 3-5pm) and had steady action on pretty much each trip. Fish were all nice too! Most were silver bullets in the 5-6 pound range with two fish that would have measured out over 30". All were caught bouncing bottom. Even had a few of these hanging around Most of the shots as you just seen were just quick while I was tailing the fish. It’s impossible to do anything else when your fishing solo in fast, waist deep water. Although I did freeze my hands a few times for some underwater release footage. VIDEO 1 VIDEO 2 My cousin joined me on one trip and I was able to get a pic of my last fish of 2011! Release Video Our ice fishing season was way behind this year as I'm sure everyone has or is experiencing. I didn't get out on the ice until a day or two before xmas. Since then I have been spending most of my time chasing whities on Superior for the smoker. Also hit a perch spot one afternoon on Superior for some deep fried eats! I have only taken one day trip with my 2 cousins into Lake Superior Provincial Park. First lake we hit was our favourite speck pond. No wall hangers have come from this spot yet but the action is second to none. They are a blast on ultra light to med-light rods with 4-6 pound test. It was a good day with about 20 fish between us 3. All fished released. Video Brookie 1 Brookie 2 Really cool underwater brookie video The second lake was about 20 minutes....uphill and then straight down in the snowshoes. Lakers were the target. We fished for about 2- 2.5 hours at two locations with a couple fish landed but nothing spectacular. Back up the cliff for a quick session on the speck lake before we left. Last weekend I was invited to do a day trip with a couple buddies. After a descent snow machine ride we found ourselves fishing on top of a reef that tops out at 30ft with 100 ft of water off the one side. Perfect area for big lakers we thought. Well we caught a half dozen lakers but nothing over 20". Had a our chances but we all choked...LOL On the other hand we had dynamite action on the whitefish. We lost more than we landed but it was wicked fun on the flashers. On the way home we hit a lake for some eyes and tried a new spot nobody had ever fished. Slow at the start but once the sun hit the trees the dinner bell rang. We iced 8-9 eyes in the last half hour before dark. Mike with the best eye (27") of the evening which was sent right back down the hole it came from! The Mess The guys had a big fish fry/party after which I was unfortunately unable to attend. Brutal... Anyways good luck to everyone on the ice this year! Hope you enjoyed, TDunn
  14. Yup flatlining is great! but a 3 way is not complicated... TDunn
  15. Knuguy, When I am trolling for inland lakers from my kayak/canoe, I am usually moving with just enough speed to see my rod tip thumping from the action. This is typically anywhere from .5-1.5 mph. A 3 way swivel with a dropper line to a 2-3 oz bell sinker will get you down to pretty much any depth at that speed. I can smack bottom no problem in 60-70 feet without a ton of line out. For a lure my favourite would have to be a giant single blade harness. I love gang trolls but can't stand the resistance when fighting a fish. Cut one up and tie up a few single blade spinner rigs. Slow roll a 4" gulp smelt minnow or an actual smelt/large shiner behind the blade. This can be just as effective as a gang troll yet you don't have even close to the same resistance. This is an awesome setup for light tackle. I run this rig off a Gander Mountain 7ft MH eglass crankbait rod and an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur baitcaster with 10-12 pound test. It's fun when you can actually fight the fish! Always let this rig out slow (tight) or else you are going to tangle before you even get down. You can see the 3 way in this pic. A small gang troll is hooked up to it. Hope this helps! TDunn
  16. Ive nailed them in 60-80 ft of water at ice out....on bottom.... I use downriggers alot but in my kayak I do just aswell with a 3 way. If your fishing inland, I recommended using some sort of meat (smelt, shiner, dace) and slow rolling it behind a blade or spoon. Its all about the slow roll! 4" gulp is amazing on lakers too! TDunn
  17. Wow! What a hog! Keep it up man! TDunn
  18. I'm in the trade also.... bottom line - osb is cheaper/less quality ply- more $$/ better quality Maybe try some housewrap if you keep the osb and add reflectors? Anyways, good luck in your shack this winter! oh and Billybob your siding nails should be hitting studs anyway! haha TDunn
  19. The sandbar was my home for a few weeks....lol and your right about the extended season...the last week has been the best action of the fall! Might hook up with jay over the xmas break if the bite Im on stays hot. If so, I'll let you know when were going. Thanks again to all! TDunn
  20. flasher will double your catch no doubt. I wont ice fish very often without a flasher unless I'm snowshoeing deep into the interior of LSPP. Currently I have a fl8 slt but I'm upgrading by xmas to a fl-18 or 20. I think I'm going to go with the fl 18-tri beam. Don't see a huge difference between the 18 and 20's. That being said I think there is a huge difference between the fl 12 and 18. 18's have the Bottom Lock which can come in handy during open water too! Honestly, Buy the best deal you can find. They all rock man! TDunn
  21. Best bang for your buck - shoe goo....Ive used it a ton I have a tube of aquaseal also....much smaller tube and double the price but it does work well! edit- Ive alway found my leaks by just looking. Ive never had to fill my waders with water...I'd just goo the whole seam like kemper did. If thats where you felt the water come in. That should seal you up nice! TDunn
  22. Wow! Thats talent! Tdunn
  23. Sweet fish! TDunn
