I'm looking to possibly downgrade in hp and go with a 4 to 6hp four stroke motor as my backup engine. I had an early 2000's 6hp merc for a while and it ran great, but found that it was a bit noisy and vibrated a bit. Some of the newer models claim to have better vibration reduction etc - so was curious if anyone had a 2010+ engine of this size and could comment on it. I'm thinking a Merc/Nissan/Tohatsu as they have through the prop exhaust. I don't think Honda or Yamaha has this and would assume they would be a bit noisier. Going back to a single cylinder I know will obviously be a bit more lumpy etc, but for the 25lbs less weight and smaller footprint is what I'm after if they have improved the motors in recent times. Thanks

I would go new and the 40hp seems to be in the same weight range between brands so its be looking at tiller features, dealer network and warranty as deciding factor. Dont think brand matters when comparing merc yammy or honda.

8 to 9' rods seem to be the common choice these days if you have the room. For a reasonable price - Tackle Industries Rod $150 with a $299 Abu Revo Toro 5:4:1 if you can find one or Curado 300 $250. Phil at etackle can help you with the rod and can probably source some of the mentioned reels. Some of the real muskie guys may be able to comment here - but would the Calcutta TE be able to double as a trolling reel for muskie too? Not sure if the Toro or Curado would hold up trolling with it over time. Also depends if you prefer bait casting style or round reels.

Don't think costco has them anymore do they? The deep cycles seem to be in middle of store lately in outdoor section

Make sure there isn't any sand or corrosion in there and clean both the post and base. Chances are dirt is getting caught and making it tough to get out.

Is the LSS-1 still available? If so that is a good option due to the smaller transducer. If you have the room for the longer transducer the LSS HD is a better setup looking at released pics. If you don't have a jackplate or step the LSS HD transducer will probably get blocked by the skeg of the motor even with trimming it up quite a bit. Size difference: http://www.panbo.com/archives/2012/03/sonar_wars_navico_structurescan_hd_humminbird_360.html If you want the LSS unit I would definitely recommend something bigger than the 5 as your main unit. Good thing is down the road you could get a 7 or 8 and then move the 5 to the bow. LSS-1 should be easy to install, but you need room to mount a second transducer at the back of the boat, and room to install the LSS box somewhere. Running power should be straight forward but its a good idea to have it installed on a switch so it isn't on all the time. Adding a second HDS unit is easy you just need an ethernet cable to run from it to the other HDS, or the LSS if you have it as its also an ethernet hub. http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/StructureScan/System/

5'' screen and side imaging will not be enjoyable at all. You really need to have a few windows to take advantage of what's below and a 5'' can't do that. If you have room for the 10'' long transducer the Lowrance LSS-2 puts out some really nice images from what has been posted on the net. LSS-1 has a nice rebate if you can find one

Do they have gear kits for them? If you really need the regular gears maybe its possible to swap them? What about a calcutta te instead? Aside from cost aren't they similar in ratio? Very good reviews on them

That BPS bag seems to cover off most of what I'm after, was hoping there would be some side pockets. Anyone have experience with these: http://www.cabelas.ca/index.cfm?pageID=71§ion=1188§ion2=1298&ID=1205 http://www.cabelas.ca/index.cfm?pageID=71&§ion=1188§ion2=1298&ID=37456 Don't think they are officially waterproof, but might be resistant enough to at least keep the rain out?

I'm trying to track down a tackle bag that is waterproof and can hold 3700 series tackle boxes. Cabelas seems to have some nice bags but mixed reviews on waterproof ness. Anyone have one that works for them? Make and model would be great. Thank you.

Are they not owned by the same company now?

I agree, I would wait for the CTEK to go on sale. CTEK also carries a 5yr warranty vs the 3yr according to the CT site.

I saw a good discussion on the LSS2 here http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/412250-structurescan-hd-lss-2-first-impressions.html Keep in mind the size of the LSS2 transducer (see pic in above link)...it sticks out at least 4 inches farther than the LSS1...motor would have to be trimmed up far to not get in the way. Good rebates on LSS1s and other Lowrance HDS products right now. Jocelyn at Angling Outfitters up in Woodstock should be able to help you get setup

Where's The Best Place Locally to Buy A Bowmount?
scugpg replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure Phil will take care of you Mike but as your 2nd option I'm pretty sure Jocelyn at Angling Outfitters also has the 80 and 101 Ipilots in stock. -
Looks like the preview is out for this Friday's upcoming episode with Bob and Jim again on LSC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hmb23OyrEvY

I took a look at the 7' eyeconn bouncer rods today. For 3oz rated it seems pretty flexible. Anyone have experience with this rod?

Thanks guys....would light or ul be the better choice?

Hi all I'm looking for a decent perch jigging rod (usually use a pickeral rig) that will also work well with slip bobbering crappie this year. I've used a 6'6 ML rod in the past but I'm thinking of something shorter and lighter action might be more suitable. What do you guys use or suggest? Thanks!

Since you are looking high end, St croix legend tournament can be found for around $200 if you shop around they are excellent rods and look great. Would match up well with the patriarch. Balance might be a challenge with your light reels but does it really matter when the combo weighs under 10 ounces? G loomis imx are nice too but more $.

as I noted above I was talking about 4 strokes...looks like they are split down the middle 2 vs 3cyl, but weight is a big difference Merc 25 157 Merc 20 115 Yamaha 25 170 Yamaha 20 114 Honda 25 155 Honda 20 104 The Honda 20 4 stroke is a great choice due to its lightweight.

I'd go with a 20 four stroke. Its much lighter than a 25 as most of those are triple cylinders.
