I'm sure it was fun. Enjoy it, because it's the closest you will see Lord Stanleys siler in a LOOOOOOOOONG time with the group you are are showcasing this year. I bet Halak is looking pretty sweet right now? Classic habs fans booing their own tender minutes into a game.

Seeing how badly habs fans embarrassed themselves last postseason, flooding the streets after early playoff wins like they had just won the cup, I'd say we are all a little too invested in our teams. It's funny, yet pathetically sad, how everyone in the hockey world wants the leafs to do badly, except Torontarians. Are we really the yankees of hockey? I think everyone is just upset TSN doesn't care about them

Oh no another STI infection! Salmo Trutta-Itis must be going around this time of year. I know how you feel about losing that biggie. I was out with my buddy a few days ago and he saw a big brookie under a log that was rising for his fly, but not commiting. He changed up his presentation, addressing every subtylety imaginable when *SLURP*, the 15"+ brookie takes the fly and the fight was on. The little 5 weight midget rod was doubled over, he gets the fish 3 feet from shore, it starts rolling and "as mysteriously as it appeared.... it was gone" For both of us, all we can think about is a gorgeous 1-2lb brookie in full fall colours swimming away, talk about planting an addictive seed! Thanks for the report and pics!

Wow, what a fantastic picture. It belongs on the cover of a wake boarding magazine

Hahaha... you just made my day! :thumbsup_anim:

Don't know what I hate worse: - Another crappy leaf season - More know-nothing habs fans who never played a game of hockey and think their crappy team is worse talking about. Get more Canadian players then you might go further in the playoffs.

Hmm, I all of the sudden I am hungry for another sandwich

Yep, I would have caught endless bass on a crappy tire combo. I'm that awesome! My point was that, it was time to upgrade to higher end gear that costs more, and when you spend more, you can save more through TWH, their prices are great but also factor in the duty when the UPS guy comes to your door. Actually, I bought a quantam energy PT 7.1 reel (which I love), but the reel made an unusual metal on metal scraping sound when reeling. I sent it back to TWH and they replace the reel, reimbursed me for shipping, and paid for the shipping back no questions. I think I got a new reel 3 days after returning. The customer service people were really helpful and understanding. Ebay is usually a good source too, but I've had bad experiences when it comes to sports equipment.

There are many routes you can go when choosing a steelehead rod. When I was just starting out I found that crazy long float rods (13'+) were tricky to cast and get used to. My first steelie rod was an 11'er and I paired it with my favourite bass spinning reel. If I were you, I would invest in a decent float rod (since you can easily attach a spinning or float reel), that will last you for more than 1 season. Go to your local tackle store and feel some rods for yourself. I think my first rod was a browning 6 rivers, it ran me about 120$ and has landed tons of fish. One thing I learned very quickly, finding a "one size fits all" setup for steele/salmon is next to impossible. Having fished bass most of my life I was used to have one main rod that matched most situations, but this concept is very different when it comes to float rods. Good luck!

^^^ I only have good things to say about TWH. I bought my first baitcaster and casting rod there and have caught TONS of bass on it. Saving 80$+ on my order was pretty sweet too

Perch on Erie and some good Samaritan Story
ctranter replied to Billy Bob's topic in General Discussion
Some nice perch there Bob, now back to watching the leafs continue to fail. I like what I see out of Jerry D'Amigo. Hes not bad (for an american), and played with my buddy at RPI! -
Great fish, I love small stream brookies too, except I prefer a small 5 weight fly set up. Nothing beats looking under rocks for nymphs, figuring out what is hatching, and watching a big brookie slurp in your fly! Only another week and a few days left

Some beauty brookies right there My brookie addiction started this season but those northern lake specks trump all of my catches by far! nice pics
-
I always appreciate your well written reports Mike! Beauty fish, I've just become addicted to brookies and resident browns on the fly, but its the very end of the season Next summer can't come soon enough, but steelehead season is almost upon us. Congrats on that pb resident brown, it was probably a good battle on that UL

This thread was a real delight to read, thanks for the post and keep em coming! I'm really like those long exposures on the river to give it that smokey look, If I remember right theres a tutorial for it in the photography section. Does it have to be a really dark gloomy day to not overexpose?

its super heavy on sodium, but I guess we aren't eating it to be healthy in the first place amiright? Cronzy's is my fav shorelunch batter

What a news fail... Burny's been fighting cancer a few years now right? Glad to hear the best leaf coach ever is still kickin.

Those are some serious hogs! I love the gar pic those things look nasty

I thought the same thing until I watched a chinook swim out of its way to hammer a small-med size fly (it was not drifting in the same path as the fish, yet the fish made a clear effort to swim to it and bite it). The fly was black and I'm told it resembles a leech, which destroy their eggs (hence egg sucking leech patterns). Obviously this won't settle the debate, but I aside from the marshmellow comment, I believe you are incorrect.

This sums it up right here. Go watch these idiots fishing into the dam at the Old Mill, 6 feet from a large NO FISHING sign...

Sounds like a great time to bust out a fly rod!
