  1. All the very best to you young lady!
  2. Right at the boat launch on the dock. Contrary to what a lot of people think it is private property, not a public dock.
  3. So, I was talking to a couple of people over at Long Beach today. Seems there were a bunch of fisher people over there last night fishing on private property which wasn't too big a deal until: The people fishing were filling up blue coolers; nice to see that the fishing was good. Problem is that every once in a while a car would pull up, drop off some empty coolers, and haul the full ones away. MNR was suppose to show up but apparently did not. The owner of the property was telling me he has had enough of having to pick up garbage, and toilet paper in the mornings after people have been fishing there so they are finally going to post it as private and just call the cops from now on. Saddly, there goes another place that people use to be able to shore fish and I really don't blame him.
  4. Jer, thanks for sending me that recipe, I will be trying it this week.
  5. LOL, thanks Skeeter, I guess I should have posted BEFORE I did the job, it can be done without a hoist and without removing the alternator and bracket but I won't be doing that again. I have all the tools and equipment for small engine stuff but I am no automotive mechanic nor do I want to be LOL.
  6. We use to just cut down the back to the ribs then out to the skin. Cut the skin away then slice the fillet cross ways so you have chunks sort of like scalops (about 1" thick). Soak them in cold salted water over night in the fridge. Drain and rinse in cold water then drain well or pat dry. Dip them in an egg wash, then toss them in a bag with seasoned flour (season to your liking). (or use fish crisp) Pan fry on medium high until golden in a little oil or margarine (butter burns to quickly), serve with lemon wedges. make about twice as much as you think you will need or you'll run short.
  7. Blue gills were hitting like crazy this morning, crappie were few and far between, I think the high wind and cold front might have slowed them down a bit. I did get a few for a feed though. Saw two other boats in there about the same results.
  8. I hear you on that one, two years ago no one fished the spot where I like to go. This year I get there and there are 5 boats, I guess they figure it is their spot now. I didn't bother staying. I'll go when there is no one else around. BTW, I wouldn't mind that bacon wrapped recipe! Boy that looks good.
  9. Good news sure travels fast. I went there this afternoon after fixing the marine railway and getting the boat out of storage. When I got there, there were already 5 other boats all in a small area. I didn't bother staying, I'll get out early tomorrow and get a nice feed of them.
  10. Lots of time to go crappie fishing my friend. Can't have a mud fight with my 12 year old niece like that but once in a lifetime One pair of ruined Nikki shoes $100.00, two hours to clean and grease the bike $100.00 but seeing her laugh so hard and sharing that moment for the rest of our lives, Priceless!
  11. Nice haul, did you get over to the place we talked about? I'm thinking of trying there today.
  12. To start it all off, nephew shows up with his Plymouth Voyager, it needs new spark plugs and an oil change. Ever tried changing the spark plugs on one of those things? Don't! Five of the plugs aren't too bad but that 6th one is a real bugger to get back in, you can't see what you are doing and it is down behind and underneath just about everything in the engine compartment. Well, after a few hours of trying, my nephew finally managed to get that last plug in. Then came the oil filter, I don't think it had ever been changed, or if it was, it was put on dry and as tight as someone could. The whole filter can was starting to rip apart but I finally managed to get it to start to move. All awkward when you are working on your back without a hoist. Anyway that too finally got fixed. Went to drain the oil, someone had rounded the oil pan drain plug, another 20 minutes to get that out but success at last. So, my 12 year old niece and I decide to jump on the ATV and go for a ride back in the bush. My helmit is sitting on the front rack and we are just going about 100 yards down the road so I didn't put it on. 50 yards from the house and a black SUV is coming down the road, I'm right on the sholder and doing all of about 5 km/h. You got it, lights come on, it's the OPP. I'm not wearing my helmit, riding two up, and on a public road. To top it all off, my wallet is sitting on my dresser in the house. All I can say is thank you sir, I know you could have written me up but you let me off with a warning. I truly appreciate it. Finally we get back into the bush, we were having a wonderful time, found lots of mud holes, the sun was shining, couldn't have been better until we hit this one mud hole, the bike lurched sideways and the next thing I know we are burried right up to the top of the shift leaver in this foul smelling muck. We are about 3 miles from home with no cell phone. Well, after much digging and finally getting the winch out and hooked up to a tree, I managed to get us out. I have to admit we were both so covered in muck and having a blast, we didn't care, in fact Jorden walked back over to the hole, slipped, and fell right in. I shouldn't have laughed so hard because the next thing I knew , I looked up just in time to see this huge wad of muck coming right at my chest. That's when the mud fight started (not that it really mattered at that point, we were both filthy anyway). Man, I'm never going to grow up! Anyway the van is fixed, I didn't get fined, the mud is all washed off, and today I think I just might get the marine railway hooked up and the boat in the water.
  13. Put a bottle of Vodka mixed with Vermouth in the freezer. Pack some olives in a zip lock bag. One of the funniest fishing trips I had up there was when we were sitting by the camp fire the first night and I cut the top off a water bottle, screwed the lid on it and poured myself a martini c/w olive. The guys just cracked up! You have to understand, I very seldome drink but they thought it was so funny to see me sitting 28 miles from the nearest landing having a martini. All was good until a hungry bear raided our camp that night! Hope you have a super time but without the bear! Enjoy your martini!
  14. Last year when we went, Steve had to use 4 anchors and that was still tough with the wind and current. I was sure glad we had a guide because he worked hard while we all fished. Sure looking forward to our trip on the 16 th.
  15. Someone mentioned back toward the beginning of this thread that the property owner was the Mayor. All I can say is "the bigger they are the more fun it is to watch them fall". See, I'm old, I don't care who I piss off. If it is in fact the mayor then it is time he became accountable. Gee isn't that a wonderful thought, politicians being held accountabile?
  16. Invest your money in something that is and will be yours. In fact, realestate is one of the best investments you can make. Water front is probably the best of all, they just aren't making any more of it! If you can't afford to buy right now, consider renting a cottage for the summer, that way you have the full use of it, no taxes, no maintence, no worries. When you figure that my taxes are $4000.00 a year for this place, $2000.00 a month to rent a cottage for June, July, Aug. every year might not be a bad alternative.
  17. This is just plain nuts! "MNR does not have hard proof of equipment working the water's edge, or destroying shoreline, so they have little to work with." What do they think did this a beaver? Have you thought about contacting the OFAH? If they were too get involved, they might know how to put some pressure on the right people after all many OFNr's are members of the OFAH and this is the sort of thing that needs to bee looked into. If you have a problem getting OFAH to help you, let me know! I'm not afraid to make some phone calls and demand answers. Last year when I wanted to STOP my shore line from eroding into the lake I had to get a letter from DFO saying it was ok to put filter cloth along the shore line to prevent further errosion. Now this jerk destroy's a shore line and no one seems to want to act? I'm with you Bruce, time to get UGLY and demand some answers! If I had done something like that I'd have been so burried in red tape, bull crap, and threats of legal action I'd have probably had to sell this place. If you get me the names and emails of any local MPs/MPPs and the exact address of the jerk (his name would help too) I'll start sending emails. Cliff
  18. It will be fine just as it is.
  19. Lake is wide open out in front of our place but my marine railway is still locked in solid. Really pissed me off to see boats out there today and I wasn't one of them.
  20. Seafoam is an excellent choice. The carb is probably varnished up, the best way to clean it would be with an ultrasonic cleaner, call around to small engine shops in your area and see if they have one, take the carb in and have it cleaned properly. Did you check to see if you have spark when you are pulling it over?
  21. The more you spend now, the less you will spend later and this is a case where bigger is better. The only time it will really matter is when it does matter. For example your motor decides it doesn't feel like starting. A cheap battery will quit trying long before a good quality one will. Also, a good quality battery will give you more seasons before you need to replace it as long as you take care of it.
  22. One of the nicest young men I have ever met! I'll never forget the day he helped Beans and I and would take nothing in return. The mold got broken after he was made!
  23. About 30 years ago when I had my own business I was approched by a customer that had a problem he'd been trying to find a solution to. Lead was being banned in shot shells for hunting water fowl, what he was trying to determin was what was in the shell without damaging the shell. After trying several ideas I realized that it didn't really matter what was in the shell as long as it wasn't lead (seems no one else had realized it at that point) so I desigined a simple eddy current coil that would identify lead and made a prototype, it worked perfectly! In fact it is still being used today and no one has ever come up with a better way to do it. Now, you would think that I should be rich right? Well it turned out that this customer went behind my back and applied for patents for the idea and guess who wasn't listed on the patents! I did go and see a patent lawyer who wanted $15,000.00 as a retainer just to get started and informed me that it could take many years of legal battles in Canada and the US and there was still no guarantee that I would get anything. Just be careful, he who gets the patent first has the biggest hammer!
  24. A very happy Birthday my friend to be much older than you are, you'd have been called Adam! Have a wonderful day!
  25. Well, as far as a donation or charge for selling things in the clasifieds, anything I have ever sold in the clasifides to OFNr's has been at a very low price for the item sold because it was going to someone on this board and I wanted to give someone a break. To donate further on top of that, sorry, I don't think so! Donations for worth while causes; I already donate money, time and resources whenever I can as do many of the members so I don't feel that there is any need to have anything formal in place for that either. If the site was to become a "pay to play", I think it would be the demise of this board. We would loose a lot of memebers and a lot of traffic. It is the members contributions that make this board what it is. I don't mean to play down the hard work that the Mods and TJ do because without them and all their hard work there wouldn't be a board at all. But "pay to play" or pay per post, sorry I would have to say goodby. The ads: I realize the need to generate revenue and I can live with the ads as long as it doesn't get to be too much of a nusance. If and when they do, members will start drifting away, more ads will be needed to make up for the missing revenue..... well, you get the idea.
