If you don't know what you are doing then leave those jets alone and get someone that knows what they are doing. You won't believe how many 2 strokes I have seen where someone has tweeked the carb and the engine was "running better than it ever had". They leaned it out and blew the piston and cylinder right out of it. Believe me it doesn't take long!

Nothing on the News about it tonight, hope everyone is OK!

We got a new neighbour 2 doors down; He spent a good part of Saturday afternoon out in front of here trying to see if he could sink his jet ski. I was getting ready to go and help him when he finally quit. If he does it again I will call the OPP though, there might not be any law about STUPID but there must be some charge for reckless operation or something they could charge him with. Besides, no one could be that stupid without a few drinks in them!

Beans you old fart!!!! You know it's funny, I use to have a sign up at the road. Then I got so busy that I was working 7 days a week so I finally took the sign down hoping to get some time to go fishing. It didn't help, people kept coming, evenings, weekends, holidays. If I wasn't home, they just leave it behind the shop for me. Now I am going to be putting a sign up again "CLOSED, GONE FISHING"!

When you got your card, you would have got a piece of paper with it, it will have your card number on it. Did you happen to file it for safe keeping like you are supposed to? If so, you will now have your card number and should be able to get into your account. If nothing else, you could take that with you and a CO might cut you a little slack if you explain the situation to him nicely.

Last night a friend invited me to go trout fishing with him for some specs in a stream he knows about. I haven't been fishing for wild specs in years and he assured me that they were biting really well. Now most of my spec fishing has yielded small guys in the 1/2 lb or less range so I rigged up my ultralite with nice fresh 4 lb test, grabbed some split shot and some small hooks and some worms (that is what he told me was working) but I also threw in a couple of small Panther Martins cause I had used them before. This was my first time in a canoe in so long I can't remember the last time, (he had his Kayak) so I figured at some point I'm going to get wet LOL. Took fishing license, left cell phone and wallet in the truck and we headed out. Five minutes into it he has a small spec. I am catching chub. First half an hour, lots of chub some as big as the specs I'm use to catching. Then I suddenly get a nice one on perhaps 3/4 of a lb; almost upset the canoe and loose the fish right beside the boat. Oh well, my heart is going 100 mph, I'm wound up like a coil spring. He lands another small one but it is hooked badly so we keep it. Then I decide I'm going to switch to my Panther Martin. Well Holly crap! Did the specs (and several big chub) ever like that. We finished off the evening with him landing 3, and me landing something like 10 more the biggest was easily 16+" Biggest darn spec I have ever seen except in stocked ponds. (no we didn't keep them all, we did keep a few that were badly hooked so Sue could have a nice trout dinner and I could get.... well never mind) The bugs hit just about 9 pm and we high tailed it back to the truck, boy did the get bad fast! Anyway a long drive for a few hours fishing but one of the nicest evenings fishing I can remember; oh and he was going to CTC this morning to get some Panther Martins LOL. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it and don't ask where we were, I'd tell you but I'd have to kill you (besides all I know is it was North, then East, then in a couple of logging roads until you hit this little ditch that looks like it wouldn't hold a minnow and that is where we started) Good luck finding that one cause I've been there and I'm not sure I could find it again LOL. Now, anyone have a 12' sports pal that they would like to get rid of for a reasonable price?

PM sent.

Well, without actually seeing it, from what you describe, it could be running too rich, some fuel escaping to the exhaust then firing which would account for the "pop" sound and the puff of smoke. When you changed the plug, was it black and carbon build up on it or was it grey/tan and clean?
-
Kind of like it is going to stall but then keeps going?

No pike, and I don't have any idea what they charge but you could try Lunge Haven cottages on Sturgeon Lake. As for the fishing at this point, I'm not the one to ask LOL.

Well, a year or two ago I would have offered you several suggestions based on over 50 years of experience but to be honest with you, I always figured I could figure out the walleye. This year I am not doing so well myself so I am probably not the best person to try to offer any advice. Our fishing conditions are very similar, everything from shallow to deep, weeds to non weeds, water temps here last night varied from about 55 to 57 depending on where I was. I do have a spot with a bit of current that I can fish but even that didn't produce. I have used live bait, plastics, tried trolling fast, slow, large baits, small baits, I'm almost ready to (oh never mind). LOL If I can figure out a pattern that works here, I'll be sure to share it with you! Sorry I couldn't be more help!

Well, i think it is back to school for this old fisherman. I went out again last night, found a nice shoal 6' with drop offs to about 23' all the way around it. Worked all around that shoal for two hours and tried everything I could think of, got broken off once by (I think it was a muskie). Then I moved to another area that I can almost always count on for a few fish. Nice weed line dropping of into about 16 fow. Again tried everything, caught a bunch of rock bass, that was it. Night before I tried a shallow basin 4' or so of water, managed a few crappie but that was it. In years past we have been able to sit on our dock and easily catch our limits in an hour, this year I caught 1 so far off the dock (shallow water weeds). I'm not sure what I am doing wrong but I'm not even marking fish in any of the spots I have tried and I have my HDS5 tuned so I can see a 3/8oz jig in 25' of water. I had no trouble at all marking the rock bass last night and they were all suspended between 3 & 6' down. HELP!!!!!

Didn't even get one this year, a friend promissed to get me a bunch then forgot, another friend promissed to let me know when they were ready over at his place but forgot, my son promissed to pick me a huge batch of them but got busy and forgot. On the bright side I did find the mother load of wild leeks though about 90 acres of bush about 40 acres of wild leeks all on private property and I have permission to get some anytime I want. Ever had pickled leeks? To die for!!!! I have also dehydrated some, grind them in my spice grinder and use them in my stews and soups, magnificant nutty garlic onion flavour. 1/4 tsp in a pot of stew or soup and people will beg you for the recipe.

Well I got out today for a while this morning and a couple of evenings last week in places that I would usually be able to catch 4 or 5 fish and have only caught 1 total so far. I have talked to a few others who are saying the same thing, really rough this spring.

Were you fishing in a boat or from shore? Any current in the areas you tried. What were you using for bait, live, plastics, lures? What were the water temps like and clarity of the water. What time of the day, was it bright or overcast? Have you got a chart of the area(s) that you were fishing so I can see what you have to work with or give me GPS Lat/Long, the Ottawa river covers a lot of territory LOL. Lets start with these questions and try to narrow it down a bit for you.
-
Depends on water temps. clarity, depth, light conditions, and time of day. Green weeds a good start.

Didn't check the dam but the lake is very high right now.

Too many big words, not enough pictures for this old man!

As a matter of fact I do as does everyone on this board even if we don't get the fancy pensions and big pay cheques. Do I get any kind of a pay cheque from any Government agency? Not penny that I haven't already paid into, i.e. CPP.

HH, the one thing I learned a long time ago is "the better they tell me it is going to be FOR ME", the better I know it is going to be for THEM! You have to ask yourself why a government that claims they are against smoking, it costs our health care system millions of $ a year, sees fit to tax non smoking aids. Oh wait, I forgot, billions of $ in taxes on tobacco products could be lost! Why does a bottle of rye cost $55.00 here in Canada but $15.00 in the US, they tell us it is to "encourage" social drinking, Bull! The rate of alcohol abuse in the US is actually less than it is here in Canada (not by much mind you). I could go on, and on, and on but we are Canadians, we trust everyone even after they have lied to us (good old Mr. Chretien "I put it right here in the red book me") (Shelia Copps "if the GST isn't removed, I'll resign"; well she did after there was a public outcry.)Oh, and a fixed byelection! (Jag Beduria, gets elected on forged doccuments but still gets to serve (as a back bencher mind you) but he should have gone to jail, no pay, no pension, no $200.00 for passing go, he was still allowed to serve as a member of parliment) If there was a revolution that might accomplish a change, I would be part of it tomorrow. Saddly, my kids will probably be saying the same thing long after I am gone.

Male bear 400 lbs +/- a bit. (a sow will have her cub(s) with her and wouldn't likely come that close unless she was really hungry and she will be looking for high protien right now because of the cubs. She wouldn't bother with bird seed) and has been enjoying bird seed either from your place or somewhere close by. Stop feeding the birds (there is enough natural food for them now anyway) and do not leave any food scraps around even in a garbage can or in your garage. They usually won't bother a person unless they are startled or cornered, they will choose to run away if given the chance. If you do encounter one, do not run from it, stand and face it, just like a dog, they will chase after you if you run away because to them you are just game trying to escape! If you stand and face ityou pose a threat to them, they will escape if they can. I have hunted bears for nearly fourty years, been between a sow and her cubs on many many occasions and never once have I been attacked. They have always chosen to leave even to the point of leaving their cubs behind.

As long as the politicians can line their own pockets at our expense and they are seldom held accountable for their actions (doesn't matter what country you live in) you and I can't do anything about it except suck it up. Fuel tax, GST, PST, HST, income tax, property tax, tax on smokes, booze, food, health, personal care products, a cup of coffee, a bottle of water, marrage, funerals, stop smoking aids, you name it, they tax it, you and I pay for it. When the casinos and lotteries were established the money generated was to go to keeping our taxes down and helping to repay our deficite. Today they rake in billions of dollars most of which goes into the rich pensions and wages of the people that are supposed to be here to serve us! Before you can fix the world why don't you start with something reasonable like fixing Canada!

Well, I'm not sure but I think a guy would look funny walking around in a skirt and blouse. The job also involves helping ladies try on the clothing, while some ladies might like the idea of a man assisting them in the change room, I'm sure that most would prefer that another lady helps them.
