yesterday i took my fiancee to teach her how to cast out on our lake only to go out to the middle of the lake and do some casting. she got pretty good at it casting where she wanted the lure to go and getting distance and she was having a ball. today we went out in the boat on our lake to cast around for some specks. i gave her an old cheap canadian tire back up rod i had and i did the mistake of letting her use my more expensive rod and shes like what the hell!? instantly could tell the difference and got mad that i gave her junk compared to mine haha! We went past the rocky island on the lake casting by it. she says she got a snag in the rocks and i get a fish on! i hand her my rod to reel up her first fish ever! about a 1lb oos smallie that i put back quickly. and then i go to deal with her snagged rod and i start to reel the line tight and i feel a fish on!! and im like you dont have a snag! you have a fish!! and i hand her rod back and she reels it up with the fish jumping out of the water and everything. she caught a good solid 2-2.5lb smallie that i also put back quickly! she was soooo excited to catch her fish first and now shes hooked! she wants to get a pink rod but not some cheapo rod like fisher girl rods! so far i've come up with this rod for her first set up http://www.amazon.com/Okuma-Calynn-Grpahite-Spinning-Combos/dp/B001V7KRY0 anybody have any suggestions for a decent but not to expensive rod for her?

i have xplornet. im on it right now. i have the basic plan which is $65 and after taxes its $74 with free install free hardware.that is locked into a 3 year plan. i searched and called everywhere! i'll be honest! xplornet is surprisingly fast and not slow like people claim it is. i can stream youtube videos with no buffering. the only crappy thing is you have a download limit!! mine is only 250mb every 24hours. the next package up for $125 is 500mb. if you go over your usage they drop you down to dial up speed and make it basically useless. so you cant watch 100 videos or download tons of songs. with 250mb you can web surf all day and not go over. i have a link in my favorites and i can check my usage and how much time i have. if you do have poor reception on your cell phone i'd go to your wireless provider and get a rocket hub. it has a stronger signal then a regular cell phone and you can attach a booster antena. it also works as a router for your laptop, you can get a land line number and it'll boost the signal on your cell phone. from what i remember plans were around $50.

What was your Shortest time spent Fishing?
pike slayer replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
a couple of winters ago a buddy and i fished a laker lake wheres no live bait and it was 8:30am when we drilled our 2 holes. we only used a jigging rod each caught 8 lakers(kept our limit) jumped on the sleds and hopped to the next lake over for specks drilled our 2 holes again no live bait and caught 10specks(kept our limit) and we were packing up at 9:30am and sledded back to his house by 10:15 and we were like so what do we do for the rest of the day. another time my buddy and i were up at our buddies camp he was cooking breakfast and was like go see if we can catch a speck or 2 for breakfast. 45min later we came back with 10specks and we caught 18 in total. after breakfast we went out and got another 3 specks. another time right before a bad storm me and 2 buddies caught 55 pike in 4hours we stopped cause there was lots of lightening. the rest of the trip was a write off being in a tent on an island in a wind/rain storm for the next 2 days -
ive heard of this before and i did some searching around a couple years ago. from what i remember it was really only affective on salmon and to wash your lures in it. to me its just not worth the effort.

thanks for the replies guys! the HR person at head office said she'd take care of it So we`ll see what happens. at the end of 2011 i had around $800 in vacation pay. So they`ll owe me probably well over $1000 in vacation pay that i have banked plus my hours for this pay paid and the next including my termination pay. i`ll be on them to get my money!

his reason for letting me go right away is that he needs to take care of his guys and they deserve the work over me because things arent really busy right now. I did not write a letter but i did go in yesterday morning and give my notice and i was there for work today with work scheduled for me. the head HR lady from southern ontario called me to ask me a bunch of questions as to why i was leaving and i told her why and i asked this question and she told me that she will take care of it.

So i landed myself a new job with alot better pay and what not and i put in my 2weeks yesterday and i will be starting my new job May 1st. I went into work this morning and my boss tells me that i need to empty out my work van, hand in my cell phone, hand in my keys, and make whatever arrangements i need to make cause im done there. So now im at home and off of work for 2weeks. I will be calling my new employer to tell him i willing and able to start anytime. but i heard if you put in your 2 weeks and they let you go right away they have to pay me my 2 weeks of pay. is this true?

I find it takes 2-3 weeks and some nice weather with the bugs to start coming out before they are in shallow and binge eating before they head deep. the lakers are like ahhhhhhh the sun!! and it takes a couple weeks for their eyes to adjust hahhaaha!

its 145.5L for regular and is suppose to go up. I live at the lake 20min out of town and its really starting to hurt driving back and forth , its to town everyday. i use my minn kota for fishing and only use my motor to get places across the lake. i know i wont be going as much things cost to much these days, should have stayed at home with mommy and daddy haha!

thanks for the replies guys. I was driving my work van and it sits up high and it only put a dent in the steel bumper. I'm not going to worry about the dent to much, its not bad enough that work will want to pay to fix it.

I was driving home from work this evening and on the left hand side of the road i see someone walking their 2 dogs and they are going nuts so i slow down cause im not sure if they are leashed or not. and then BANG! i hit something hard! i look in my mirror and i see a big brown furry thing on the road. i pull over and put on the hazards and this older lady comes running out from the house on the right side of the road. i unfortantly hit her dog and shes freaking out. i felt soooo bad and i just saying sorry to her. i helped her carry the dog to the house. and shes all upset and calling the vet and clearly the dog past away. thankfully i knew her neighbour and they seen what happen and came over to settle the lady down a bit. and the neighbour i knew helped me carry the dog and put it in the truck to bring to the vet. then i went to the negihbours to clean up. i feel really bad for hitting this dog especially for having 2 dogs of my own. I want to do something for the lady like bring her flowers or something. How long should i wait for i go over there and what should i do? write a letter or something?

i want to build and put out a floating dock out infront of my place on an inland lake. is there any regulations or anything for putting one out there
-
i walked out onto my lake yesterday. pretty sketchy! the 6inch auger holes i drilled about a month ago are around 2` in diameter. a couple hundred feet out theres a pressure crack and its open 6inches wide. ya i wouldnt recommend going out unless using extreme caution, it just not worth it. wait 2weeks and you`ll be out in a boat.

yup i was out on my lake yesterday!

all my rods are 2pc. all my fishing is in a 12footer on back lakes, heading into lakes with a 4wheeler, backpacking in. they might be a little less senstive but hey i still catch tons of fish with them.

the deepest point of the lake is only 20ft its a pretty clear rocky lake with some bays with weeds and an island with alot of weeds around it. can some midnight stocker just dump some pike in and i'll be happy with that haha!

there is public access to prince lake and its right beside my place, its a public "beach/ boat launch" that prince township owns. theres 30fulltime residents and 20 seasonal here at the lake. there is ok smallmouth bass fishing but i rarely see anyone out there. ive been here for 2 years and i've only seen 2 ppl fishing it. only speed boaters that ppl dont like and i know residents are trying to pass it with either just electric motor 10hp and under lake. they are trying to get on with different ontario cottage assocations and trying to preserve nature. the legal battle out here finally went through this past fall and there is no more fulltime residents allowed to move out here. i have to sell my home as seasonal only. i'll be the last guy to live out here if i stay another 20 years, im the youthest person living out here, the next youngest is probably around 40 and i bet the average age for ppl living out here is 60. i atleast hope the mnr hopes to stock it in the future. also if you checkout the mnr maps and look at the stocking there is a few lakes around that have been stocked with walleye. im very doubtful they would stock it walleye but i can dream. i've also looked online about buying specks/rainbows to plant the lake, its about .99cents for a 4-6" speck and min. order of 200. and then comes in the whole legal thing. i would think the mnr wouldnt like that to much and would fine me. i've thought about just catching a bunch of fish at another lake and dumping them into mine but would be highly illegal and i'd never chance it or would i have the balls to do something like that. the fish farms online all seem to be in southern ontario to.

thanks i'll call them this week. does the mnr stock lakes with exotic species into lakes for put and take? walleye would be amazing to have to just walk out my front door and catch
