  1. last summer i was fishing with my best fishing buddy on our favourite pike lake. My buddy hooks into a 4-5lb pike and his line snaps. While he was bumming lacing up a new lure i hook into a fish. i get it in the boat and i go to unhook it. the pike has my buddys lure in its mouth! It was the exact same lure as the one i was using and i was laughing that the pike was dumb enough to bite it twice. my buddy didnt believe me until i showed him the 2 identical lures going into my tackle box haha!
  2. i agree with sinker. i find 20-40ft of water and drop a small silver #30 williams wobbler about 6-8ft below the ice and jig that. you can also tip it with a small minnow. you hook into a 1lber and your hook set just about flings them out of the hole lol. i do awesome for lakers, specks, and splake this way.
  3. dara is right. Here in the sault typically what you put in is what you'll make. The only real way to make money on a flip here is if you have a "in" with a bank or agent and you get first swing at perfect houses for flips. old ironworker on the listings i see alot of houses with kitchens and bathrooms that need to be done. It is annoying and hard on these 2 rooms to be renovated because they are typically the most expensive to redo and it really screws up daily life so people never do it. They do however add the most value and give the most wow factor. Thats why i'd consider it. ch312 thats kinda the way i was thinking. She doesn't want to move a dozen times. The house we buy she wants it to be the house that we stay in a long time and raise a family. So we will need a family size house. This dream coming finished house that she wants is out of our price range. For the size of house she wants is going to need some work plain and simple. and to clear things up we aren't actually fighting we are just disagreeing on what we need for a home and arent coming to an agreement.
  4. the problem is me never finishing anything or not in a good time frame. i've come to terms that i dont have the time, energy, or the ambition to do a complete gut and redo. We will probably try and find something that has the main floor done and a basement to refnish or just the kitchen. I know enough not to take on something so big that will take years for me to complete. She cant complain to much about dust and dirt. i bring home air scrubbers and set up containments when i work. When i drywalled the livingroom and hallway i started priming and she come home and asked if i even sanded. I do 80% interior work. i do drywall, painting and finish carpentry. i have done exterior stuff like siding and windows but im no pro but could get the job done. Now i need to do a big push and get the house ready to list it.
  5. thanks for the replies guys much appreciated.ya... i think i will just have some idea "accident" happen and take the insurance money and take an early retirement fishing out my days lol. I'm going to stroke out the idea of a new house. Its out of our price range, we are looking at around $150,000 house. The problem is that the carpenters house is always the last one to be finished! When i get home from work the last thing i want to be doing is what i was doing all day lol. We've been in our place 4 years and theres a few unfinished projects. I get it "liveable" and let it sit for a while. Then you add side jobs in there and fishing and what not and it really makes it tough to finish things. Before we list the house i need to get a few things done. i got random trim and touch up paint in pretty every room haha! I still dont like the idea of a flipped house though. As for why we are moving into town and not raising a family out in the country is because my place is only 1000sqft with no basement. With the by-laws in place i can't add onto my house and its not really a family style house. Also the road into my place is terrible. I got 4km of bush road that doesnt get plowed alot and is sketchy. its not a road you want to take an infant down. It is costing alot in gas going back and forth. Between working, working, fishing, etc. its hard to enjoy the lake/bush here. Its nice to get away not not nice to be away in the wilderness all the time. This is also the only rural area i've ever been where everyone is rude and are jerks. Nobody talks to us out at the lake, nobody does the neighbourly wave on the road and nobody slows down or moves over. When i bought this place i figured i could enjoy the lake and bush while i as still young and not while i was old and retired. but nobody got time for that. I'm thinking finding a new bungalow with decent livingroom and bedrooms and in time redo the bathroom and kitchen and as for the basment maybe a partly finished one. Promise her if i start a project that i have to finish it by such and such date or there will be penalties.
  6. This spring we are putting our house up for sale. We want to upgrade to a larger home closer to town where in the future raise a family. We are looking at the local listings and we are fighting over the type and quality of home. My wife is looking at these houses you can clearly see are flip houses. They are 100% complete and no room to add any value to the house. i do not like the fact that i dont know what exactly has been done. Now i work in restoration and i repair homes are floods, fires, etc. I do basically everything. My ideal home is a shack that i rebuild to make my own but she definitely wont go for something in that need of a repair. So im looking for homes that need say a new kitchen, bath, basement redo and some painting. Things that can really add value and i get to do it exactly how i like it. She is pretty much in tears saying she just wants to live comfortable in a construction free zone. To me every house needs work and it never ends. So what should i do? put my head down and say yes dear and get a turn key house and hope they did a good job. or do i go against her and i take the final say? If houses didnt cost so much i'd go her route and wait 6 months for something to go wrong and say told ya so!! need some advice!
  7. i have to agree with fishNwire. thats why i come on here to. and i like to see the odd fishing reports from guys like moosebunk. the only time anything should get locked here is if someone is posting porn or straight up threatening a fellow member on here.
  8. all i can think of when ppl want to see play by play of the build is this old thread of the famous shed. http://www.bcsportbikes.com/forum/showthread.php/146566-Build-to-Fail-Fail-to-Build.-What-is-this-I-don-t-even..... you better take notes drifter and print out pictures.
  9. thats pretty cool but i dont want to spend alot money and im in the sault.
  10. i have a 2000 gmc sonoma. along my rocker panels and around my fenders the paint is peeling off and there is now surface rust. i want to fix this but i dont want to dump a pile of money into it by going to a body shop. i drive 8km of gravel road everyday and it really takes a beating. there is already rock guard on the bottom 4 inches and its all peeling. so i was thinking of rolling on some bedliner. My wife thinks its going to look terrible and i think it'll look fine and possibly more durable then rock guard? i've never really done any real body work on a vehicle before, i think i got a grasp on this. i was thinking of taking a wire wheel on my grinder and grind all the loose paint paint off and grind the surface rust off.scuff the clear coat with 80grit, spray rust inhibitor. then get a rust primer and spray it with that. then mask off and roll on the bed liner. what does everyone think of that? stupid idea? anyone have any better ideas? and anything else that could be helpful would be great.
  11. looks like even without fishing your still having a great time and making lots of memories. and lake superior park is a pretty amazing place. now you'll have to come up and fish it to. i even love just driving from the sault to wawa, its some great looking scenery.
  12. i've fished the garden river from shore a few years back and a couple natives came up to me and my group of friends and told us we'd need to buy a license to fish their land. i told them i already had an ontario license. they started to get rude with me and i got rude back and they threaten to slash the tires on my truck and beat us up. before things got anymore heated we decided to leave. i went back a few more times and nobody ever bothered me again. i think its just a few natives with alot of pride trying to do this. i was also told from a few different people that i would need one of their licenses to fish the their couple lakes on the garden river reserve and that they put some kind of gate up on the jardin mine road so you cant access reserve lake, jarvis, crooked, etc. i don't know if their is any truth to it or if i'd actually have to get a license and to be honest i really dont care. i can access those lakes from island lakes or northland anyway. also i was told they have a gate on frater road in lake superior park?!? i've never explored these areas because i dont want to be confronted back in the middle of nowhere. theres lots of other places to fish. does any sault locals have any truth to this or is it just a bunch of stories to keep people away from the areas?
  13. im pretty sure its the last saturday in june.
  14. ooo dear lord! lol
  15. ya keys are always good. that reminds me 5-6 years ago my buddy and i were going to head out ice fishing so the night before i brought my sled over and loaded the sleds in the trailer so we can just jump in the truck and go the next day. so we got up early and took off. did the hour and a half drive and we parked where we unload the sleds. i asked my buddy for the key and he goes digging all thru his truck looking for it and he goes ooooo i forgot your keys on my nightstand......do you know how to hot wire your sled!??! and i was like ummmm no i cant say i've ever tried to steal my own sled before. so long story short, i pulled my dash apart and disconnected the wires and got it going.
  16. next time you'll be in the centerfold
  17. could be going after bait fish swimming to the top and diving down after them and not even paying the slightest bit of attention to your offering. i'd seen big walleye do this and pike to.
  18. just watched it. it was on sea lampreys. monsters yes. danger to humans i dont think so. i got one smelt fishing a few years back and it ended up on the highway. the show before that was awesome. he was catching 200lb tarpin in a little rubber tube.
  19. so my guess is i'll get 3 years out of it. thats fine they are pretty cheap. and i'd like to know if the charger is speeding up the batteries death.
  20. i'm in the market for a new battery for my minn kota. i've had a couple different brands over the years and i did a search and i think i'm going to go with the ever start from wallys world. i've had this charger for about 8 years http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/3/Batteries/BatteryChargers/PRDOVR~0111504P/MotoMaster+12%2B2A++Automatic+Battery+Charger+with+75A+Engine.jsp?locale=en i seen past replies about that you need an intelligent charger to increase the life of your battery. is it worth it to get the intelligent one or is mine good enough? what do you guys recommend?
  21. the specks i catch are to big to be cleaned like that!
  22. ya......i think my boat might just come out early this year seeing your pics haha! i normally wait for the ice to leave but im willing to help it leave with my boat to.
  23. my lake is just opening up. there soft water along the edges and out in the middle. by mid next week all ice will be gone!
  24. i didnt watch the video but a few years ago i was out fishing with a buddy and he messed up casting and i got a hook in my ear. i finished pushing it through by piercing my ear then cutting the barb off so i could pull it out. not a good day on the water.
