  1. you've made several jabs in the past at elitist pin anglers who need thousands of dollars of equipment to fish your jab at "armchair experts" was a bit of a conceited attitude IMO when you stir up crap, expect to have some "splashback" lol I think most will take things with a grain of salt, but there is a winternet weather advisory, a crap storm is brewing and not ending until approx april LOL it auto edits crap! instead of another word...never knew that
  2. it's a fair price, right in the ballpark not a contractor myself but work quite often with a friend who is an independent...many, many guys will cut corners where ever possible, keep that in mind when you consider a lower quote also keep in mind that you can easily overpay, it is good to question and ask around....any decent contractor will give you a couple of references to talk to
  3. go north or go west...look at mining and oil/gas higher paying and more jobs available, especially to enter the industry, once you have experience, you can fight for the slim pickings in southern ON
  4. hmmm, perhaps an OFC personals section?
  5. would it be a lot more? I thought it's only about a 10-15% difference? but propane is cheaper and are supposed to be cheaper on maintenance...or in my case don't need to worry about carbs gumming up for an o/b that is only used about half dozen times a year
  6. looking into one of these for next year, anybody have any experience? good or bad thinking about using one on a jon boat for small backlakes, canoe on portages, etc...trying to find out run time off propane vs gas, I'm thinking a 5lb propane tank would be lighter than equivalent required amount of gas for the same run time??? just a complete guess/hoping that could be the case would guess easier to maintain, carbs fouling, no mixing, easier starting, etc http://www.golehr.com/docs/specs/specs_5.pdf
  7. "army of armchair experts" is interesting terminology...lol you can make anything as simple or as complicated as you like...competitive sports for example, carbon sticks, custom skates, advanced nutrition and training, etc, etc...or just a frozen pond, wooden stick, skates and a puck (frozen toes of course) you get to a certain point or skill level and then you can truly appreciate high end gear IMO...is it needed? no, of course not...does it make you better? sometimes put me head to head jiggin walleyes with a glx stick and braid vs anybody with an ugly stick and mono and I'd bet money I'd hook more 99% of the time like you said, personal preference, as long as you're having fun...
  8. I've been watching that "story of mankind" or whatever it is called on history channel i think....episode the other night was interesting, almost a mathematically certainty that the conditions that created/support life on earth must exist elsewhere as well as for cougars, no doubt in my mind there are currently cougars in Ontario
  9. I have an older folding jack knife, locking blade, about the length of my index finger, I use this for 90% of my work, easy to handle and a full shank knife on my belt, use this for skinning and general purpose things...keep my little knife razor sharp I also carry a folding saw in my pack
  10. that show is a joke, but I still watch it...everybody has their endulgances ha I have a friend who claims he had a bigfoot encounter, has a few pictures on his iphone and of course all crappy pics, but swears it was not a bear my creepy most memorable experiences are: I found a very fresh fawn carcass in a tree while steelheading an erie trib one fall, very fresh as in blood still dripping I rowed my pontoon boat to shore to fire out a duke...it was a late spring morning, cold air but sunny and I had found an unusually comfortable seat over a downed tree, sitting in the sun, life was good and needless to say I was making the most of the moment, it's a pain in the ass to row to shore and strip down waders......after a few minutes of joy, I happened to look over and sitting on his ass about 40 yds away was a black wolf, staring at me with that stupid look dogs give you we made direct eye contact for about 5 seconds and then I decided to wrap things up asap...as I paddled out from shore, not even past the reeds along shore yet, the wolf came running in, a couple of sniffs and then ate it all up right in front of me, looked straight at me and then ran off
  11. irish setter boots, can't go wrong with the elk hunter boot, but they are several models to choose from that would work for what you want and with different insulated ratings, 200-600grams thinsulate combined with proper socks for the activity and you're good to go...about $200-300 good socks/liners will help address point #5
  12. common courtesy is always nice, a simple call back would be great customer service and i get your point...but if they're that busy, it's for a reason...maybe try earlier next year
  13. whoa now...before you do anything wait the 60 day drying period...big skull on that guy...could be a "boar" for the books...think his green score is pushing that magic 1" mark...
  14. an ounce of biology is worth a pound of tackle - Gord Pyzer...one of my favourites when leaving for the day: one more cast....15 mins, later: one more cast
  15. georgian bay musky? big fish, how recent was it caught
  16. saltwater is such an amazing experience...good luck tomorrow word of the wise, tip in advance when you're on the party boat, tip the captain or the first mate doing all the grunt work, preparing bait and rods....they'll hand you the rod when they hook up a good one all the party boats i've been on were basically bottom fishing, everybody had their own rod, with frozen bait....then they have a few kite rods or even just freelining livebait, herring usually....that gets the sail 99% of the time whereabouts in the backcountry? post pics cheers.
  17. Dan Seavey, IMO a calcutta casts miles better than a trini, noticeable difference, and your conquest/any calcutta is more comfortable to cast all day and has easy access to adjust vbs brakes...avet are great value reels, level drag, slightly different reel class than a trini and I htink most agree the trini casts better i haven't fished a saltiga yet, but hear nothing but good things about them, strong, powerful and smooth on the trinidad you have to literally lock down the star to get max drag, like lock down with force...smooth drag but not the strongest, you can upgrade to carbon pads but no experience with that myself
  18. https://fishingworld.ca/products/8670-frabill-calibrator-tip-up-1676
  19. a great idea...I'll be looking for one soon I went through the hassle of putting colour coded nail knots(bobber stops) every 5' for 50'on one of my tip ups I have a friend that has put leadcore on a tip up spool too
  20. I use a trinidad but not for musky casting...for the length of your typical musky casting distances, I don't think you need to worry about line bunching on the spool spool it evenly to start with, don't overfill it too much and good to go...and then maybe every now and then you'll need to "thumb it" evenly on the spool again
  21. for general purpose spinning, stradics are mint (2500-5000 depending what you're doing with it) strictly for carp fishing a baitrunner would be ideal
  22. I feel your pain, I did the same thing...I got a great deal on a 1999 honda, extremely little use as a sailboat tender...great o/b but just not enough control at times in current and the nose gets blown around, the downside for me is hondas didn't get a through hub until 2000, so I don't have many props to play around with looks like you have a 3 blade, 9 pitch? you could try a high thrust, 4 blade, 5 or 7 pitch http://www.rubexprops.com/boat-propellers/Honda/?motor=K0080B&ver=a&model=8HP%208%20HP%20BF8%20(8%20Spline)
  23. I've had the pleasure to see a fittante and advanced taxi in the same room, perhaps not fair to compare different species...but the advanced was down right better, they both had great body details, accurate to the pictures of the real fish..but advanced had more intricate detail around the head features and gill plate, underside of the jaws...the fittante eye just didn't seem right I don't think anybody can go wrong with an advanced reproduction
  24. I'd go with the 8 at minimum but a 9.9 would be ideal IMO given the current I have a 17' lund with 90 2 horse, I put an 8 hp honda 4 stroke on it this past may..first agenda for spring is upgrading to a 9.9 merc big foot or yammy high thrust the 8 hp is great for general conditions but not strong enough for a loaded boat with 2 guys in strong current in an emergency situation with a dead main o/b it helps to have a few extra horses too panther marine makes a great connector rod, stainless steel for about 70 bucks, quick and easy to connect steering with out dropping big dollars...in hindsight, you can easily fab the same thing with redi rod too
  25. if you're not worried about scratching up the roof, just ratchet strap to the roof, interfers with head space and will drop water through the door seal if it's raining but it works just fine for the price of a utility trailer you could get a good roof rack and save a few bucks
