  1. sounds like mercman can help you out....but if not, I have used partselect before and no problems...ordered some stove parts, at my door a little less than 2 weeks later (probably 7 or 8 business days, it was over the wknd), I was happy...didn't research how competitive their prices were, my total bill was 70ish so i was ok placing the order right away
  2. what do you plan to fish for? if trout and bass just get a cheap and simple click pawl drag and spend the savings on quality fly line if you plan to go after salmon, steelhead, pike then spend a bit more and get a disc drag virtually all manufacturers make entry level reels...okuma makes a decent reel for the money
  3. if you're looking for value for your dollar don't be afraid to look in the states...it's not as difficult as you might think to tow across the border and it is well documented, forum search or google search go to the shows and sit in the boats and once you have it narrowed down go price shopping for those models keep in mind, you'll never go wrong with a Lund...lol
  4. that's exactly the case in my situation...like I said, certain types of hunting my gun is loaded 99% of the time...but I don't trust just the safety and I don't swing the muzzle over my shoulder with people behind me...imagine hiking up a ridge, glassing, focusing on the trail and then looking up and there's a muzzle pointed at your face...not cool I don't have the links but here's a quick copy & paste from another forum I read, all in the past two weeks “A young woman is dead after a hunting mishap near Grande Prairie, Alberta.” “A father-son hunting trip took a fatal turn when a 63-year-old man from Prince Albert, Sask., accidently shot and killed his 36-year-old son in rural Saskatchewan.” Near Vernon on Thursday –currently under investigation “The body of Tracy De Montezuma was found Thursday afternoon in a densely forested area of the Aberdeen Plateau, not far from where his truck was spotted Sunday on a remote logging road.” Near Ottawa on Sunday-again the investigation is ongoing “A 22-year-old man was killed in a hunting incident Sunday evening south of Ottawa, near Osgoode, after he was accidentally shot in the head” Hunter orange might have prevented 2 of the deaths & helped in finding the BC hunter sooner.(“The man was well hidden, dressed in camouflage, when the dog team found him in an area where searchers had combed several times. "A lot of people here have been very, very close to where he was..”) I believe there was also another incident in a cabin in yukon/alaska, moving a loaded gun inside a cabin and it went off
  5. very sad accident, there was another accident this past weekend somewhere else I heard aobut...condolences to family and friends...accidents do happen, even to the most prepared safe people, and to the unprepared when there is a round in the chamber it's a live gun, the safety doesn't matter in mind, they are mechanical and can and will fail...i don't trust a safety, it's just there as a precaution, not as a guarantee when hiking my chamber is always empty...still hunting, spot and stalk, and bird hunting there is a live round in my guns 99% of the time and I cover ground differently....crossing a creek the action is open, climbing over a log the action is open, the gun is out of my hands, on the ground, muzzle dirction considered and then i climb over the obstacle....steep embankment or cross a creek, action open i've stopped hunting with a buddy because he always has a round in the action, when we move spots he will throw the sling over his shoulder and i'll snap at him...."what, the safety is on"....doesn't make a difference, your backpack could bump it, it can fail, you can fall...if everybody didn't trust the safety and treated every gun as hot, there would be far fewer accidents
  6. I definitely think that hardy looks way sharper than a guru would....sweet looking combo
  7. a pair of waders/wet wading during summer and the otonabee will be your friend....below london st dam/hunter st bridge is a good area all the way out to the gazebo look for a cheap used canoe(always on kijiji/craigslist) and you'll open up a lot more great areas, on the river and within a 2 hr drive
  8. what he said...don't want the shiny stuff...soft lead is the best shot but getting harder to find
  9. decent price if they're soft shot I like using sure short, blackbird makes good shot too...pinch them on lightly too, will adjust easier without damaging your leader
  10. if you're new to fly casting overlining by 1 weight or the rio outbound line will help you feel the rod load the gold is a good line but don't think it'll serve you well if that's our intended line for throwing pike flies...plus it's expensive can't remember what blank spiel said you built on, but action/tapers for dedicated pike and steelhead rods are pretty different...you can definitely fish multi species but if you want a dedicated rod for throwing half chicken pike flies then a 9'6" moderate action steelhead rod isn't gonna shine in that department...and vise versa, a 9' xfast pike rod isn't gonna roll cast that well or be too pleasant to fish on the river for steelies definitley need to see pics of another spiel masterpiece with the reel mounted...what thread colours did you go with?
  11. what reel did you end up putting on there? the rio versatip lines are pretty slick too, well worth the money IMO
  12. very cool video...siras moose though, don't think anybody would be trying that with an alaskan bull...but an alaskan probably would've dragged the swingset away with it anyways lol
  13. take the spool off and give it a good rinse...wipe it down with a towel and make sure all the sand is out...wipe the inside of the spool out, good place for sand to get trapped...wipe the spool shaft down take a q-tip and make sure there is no sand around the bail and roller add a drop or 2 in the maintenance port and good to go it's not the water that'll hurt the reel...it's the sand
  14. hmmm, I missed the no overnight part.....I read that as just no services...ie water, bathrooms, electricity and other maintenance "The provincial government announced that overnight camping services will be dropped" so if they've eliminate the seasonal staff, how do they plan to enforce the overnight camping thing?....when somebody breaks the lock on the gate, who checks up to replace it?
  15. that's how i read the article...ministry is dropping services, not maintaining the park basically I think it's another case of shotty journalism with respect to the camping "banned" part there
  16. our rule of thumb in camp is always yourself, would a bear do that? where's the napkins? would a bear do that? you seen the tooth paste? would a bear do that? hey man, where's the toilet paper? would a bear...
  17. check to see if there is still an operator on abitibi....ray blackburn shut down his business a few years ago but there was another operator, if i remember right they more into the sledding business but they did have ice huts on big ab
  18. so the title of the article says camping banned...but I didn't read camping was banned in the article, the ministry announced camping services will be dropped 28 full time positions and 102 seasonal positions...that's a hefty salary to maintain campsites in northern parks with low visitation rates...IMO spend the money on parks with high visitation rates and leave the northern parks remote camping services are nice, they make the experience easier and more comfortable for families with small children...but it's nice to keep some parks less developed too
  19. they're good people in peterborough...they mailed me a rebate cheque but it wasn't signed and bank wouldn't cash it they re-issued the cheque and sent me a hat and t shirt, pretty nice
  20. if you're looking for substitute to worms try the gulp worms in the jar...i get the same results as real worms
  21. I see you're in hamilton....not too far from Spiel or you could try wrapping a guide yourself, first job won't be pretty but it'll get the job done
  22. if you spend some time fishing below springbank dam you will catch everthing that swims in that river, waders help, fish behind the 2 litle islands
  23. i fish 20 lb braid on mine...tried nanofil and power pro but settled on that p-line hydra float, i can't find the 15 lb line or i'd run that...top shot the last 15' or so with 20 lb mono and fish 8-15 lb leaders it's a perfect big water rod
  24. batson xst1562-3...spiel built one up for me, same intended purpose as you plus coho's, pink and occasional chinny...it's a great stick
