I turned mine off for ice fishing but it made no difference in battery life. Turning screen brightness down did the most to save battery life when I get in front of mine I will see if I can remember how I did it.

nothing like an ice fishing day, I only had to change course for two other boats oh and the anchored boat that came running over and dropped anchor when they saw us catch a fish...maybe 20 boats in a 1 mile area
