Thinking of a day trip to Haliburton for some lakers. The boats there already, why mess with a good thing?
-
Thanks for the replies guys! Shane, i tried exactly what your saying, maybe different colour TD, but speed and technique were the same. What a difference a couple of days make! EC, my best shallow action has been when the water was between 50-55deg.

Dont know about expertise, but ill take a kind word anyday! Maybe we'll share a few casts...Thanks for the replies.

Headed up to Haliburton last weekend, boat in tow and ready to fish some early season lakers. Got there midday Friday and launched the boat into some pretty breezy conditions. Expecting the fish to be shallow from the previous weeks reports, I was disappointed to find that was not the case. Not surprising, seeing as the water temps were closer to 40deg than they were to 50... Great first launch, though, its always a treat to get the boat on plane for the first time and feel all the winters tension melt away. Hung around for a little over an hour and basically washed lures the whole time. Ran into fishboy out on the water and he told me about his odd catch and we discussed further fishing opportunities and called it a day. Woke up around 9ish Saturday morning and noticed that the wind had died compared to the day before. But the water temps hadn't, staying just above freezing. In fact, there was a small glaze on the bay that would break up and be gone before I got in the boat around 11 o'clock. Silly of me to wait that long. The winds that were gone, returned. I tried flatlining, jigging, countdowns... aside from a trio of bass that came on consecutive casts, the laker skunk remained. I really didn't want to leave the area that I got the bass from. The spot was a prime spring laker spot, and the winds were favourable for the deep jigging pattern I was sure would produce a good Grey. But I also knew that all I'd get at this spot would be bass, so I called it a day a few hours after launching. Some chores that afternoon kept me busy, and a nice roast beast and some bevvies that evening made for a great celebration. It was my Father-in-laws 60th birthday and we had a grand night on the lake. Sunday morning I was up earlier, thinking the winds would behave much like they had Saturday morning. Sure enough, the skies were bright and calm. Perfect for the jigging pattern that I wanted to work on. I've never had too much success with jigging spoons for lakers, or anything else on open water for that matter. But those bass from the previous day had me in a positive frame of mind to start the day. Cruised to the area that fishboy had caught his walleye on and started getting some hooks on the screen. Came into a school of baitfish over 40fow and the finder was showing the trademark dashes that are lakers feeding on the baitfish. Dropped the big jigging spoon down and let it hit bottom. Dropped the rod tip and ripped the rod up to about 12oclock. Keeping a controlled decent back to the bottom, I could feel if a fish took the bait somewhere between the point where the jig stalled on the rise, to the point where it hit bottom again. After a few pops of the rod, I felt it. A little TICK right as the spoon stalled and had just started its descent. FISH ON! I was pretty pumped as this felt like a solid fish and a minute or two later, this chunky Grey made its way into the net. Pretty fishes, lakers are... Put her back to swim some more and moved back out to find the school and as soon as the marks started showing up, drop the spoon immediately and start all over again. Rip, settle, rip settle BANG! Easy come... Easy go... The pattern was pretty simple. Find the school and drop the lure as soon as the marks appeared. Problem was, the school moved. Not just along the break, either. Up and down the break as well. One minute I'd jig in 40fow, then the school would be gone and I'd find it again in 50, then 60fow. The pattern also had its own wear on patience. Eyes glued to the sonar, the boat just zigzagging between 30-65fow for what seemed to be quite awhile, it would probably seem pretty boring for some. But it works. Another two under 20in within an hour were proof of that. They didn't want their pics taken and were promptly sent home. The winds started picking up again and made the drift unworkable, so I called it a day around noon and had a nap before heading home. Hope this weekend turns out to be as productive as last! Thanks for reading!

Was fishing in Haliburton this past wknd. Went to a prime spring laker spot only to tie into 3 nice smallies on consecutive casts. More than a little dissapointed when i saw them come up, but didnt feel bad. After the third one, just packed up and hit a different spot. Fish bite lures is what it comes down to. As was already said, thats what makes fishing so much fun!
-
Guess we're well met fishboy! Sure will expand the fishing opportunities on that lake. Did you end up getting into any lakers? Clean looking fish, for sure!
-
Got out for a bit today. Didnt mark anything, and the shallow areas that have produced in the past were vacant. Water temps varied, but hovered around the 40deg mark. No wind would be a blessing for tomorrow.

Ultramar in Manila just ran out of regular. Filled supreme at regular cost 1.31/L! Woohoo Lakers, here I come!

"Hey Jim, think we should build refineries or prisons?" "Well, Steve, were gonna have alot of prisoners soon. You know, since we got the ball rolling with mandatory sentencing and the crime rate soaring HAHAHAAA!" "Youre right Jim! What was I thinking??? LOCK EM UP HAHAHAAA!!" "Oh Steve, I cant wait until the good 'ole boys let us be the 51st State. Then everyone will thank us." "All in due time Jimmyboy. All in good time." (done in best Monty Burns impersonation)

Wow. Be thankful as often as you can.

Just as a side note, why wear waders if youre in a boat?

Sure, count me in...

Ya Dan it was a treat to get up and feel some warmth for sure! Just let me know if thats a honey glaze or blackforest.... Geoff, im really not too sure what to say. Is your wife aware of your extra-curricular activities???

This is the winner so far. You guys know your stuff!! Thanks so much for your help, the unit is firing for over 2min now with intervals of roughly 40sec and the fan is hauling away!! Cant say it enough, Thanks a ton!

No, in brooklin. Thanks anyways. I took the sensor out and gave it a good scrubbing. It came on for a bit but shut off again. Code showing the pressure switch has come on again... Not llokin too good.
-
The code is an ope pressure switch. On the diagrams, there are 2, it shows a pressure switch on both of the schematics. The fan still isnt blowing even if i manually hold the switch. The unit fires up for about 6min total and then the code flashes again. Ill give the flame sensor a little cleaning and see if that helps. Thanks again for the replies!
-
Perfect. Thanks for that guys. I did notice that the light did have a sequence...3flashes followed by 6flashes. I'll have to look for the code on the door I guess. Thanks for the idea guys.

Still not sure what they look like Dan, but may done something thats helping. Noticed that when I had both doors off, the switch inside the unit started everything up beauty when I just held it with my thumb. Flame for over 30sec. When I put the door back on, it didn't want to cycle and certainly didn't hold a flame... So I bent the door in a little to engage the switch a little better and The furnace started up real quick! Cycled for 41sec then flame for almost 2minutes!! After that, the intervals were close between flames, approx 1min then would spark up with flame for 16, 8 and 39seconds at a time. Then the furnace stopped. Thermostat still at 20 as we speak. Thanks again Dan. Still not sure what the sensors look like.
-
Thanks for the reply Dan. Not sure which sensor you're talking about? Filter is waiting until the weekend as I don't think its my primary problem.

Hi guys. I'm having a problem with my furnace. Essentially, it appears to be misfiring. I woke up this morning to a colder than normal temp. of 16deg. The thermostat is set for 18 and up to 22 at 6AM when people start to rise. Got a call from my wife in the late morning telling me it was still the same. I ran her through the do's of how to manually operate the thermostat and did come home to a 20deg house. Which isn't really saying much, it was a fair day today. Anyhow, got the covers off the furnace so I could see the sight glass. When I replaced the bottom panel and the switch activated, there was an initial flame for about 6sec. That was it. For the next 5min, I timed the cycle... After 39sec the light came on, no flame. Another 52sec, light but no flame. Again at 1:17, same thing. Is there something I can do here besides wear a good pair of woolies to bed tonight? Thanks for any help. Edit: Just to add that there is good suction on the intake pipe. Also, when I turn the thermostat from AUTO to RUN, the fan kicks in, but it doesn't want to blow when on the AUTO setting?

Your thoughts on water clearity from zebra muscles

Sinker hit the nail on the head. Adapt or go home with a skunk. Smallies are invasive, pike are invasive, all sorts of aquatic plants are invasive... Deal with it when the time comes. I dont reall fish waters that were overly stained to begin with. So its really a moot point for me. -
Is there a slow clap emoticon? Cause youd get one. Good showing for March!
