  1. Gotta love smoke
  2. Best to go to their website. http://www.npca.ca/conservation-areas/binbrook/
  3. I would know my family was in the room. Every family gathering is like the campfire scene in "Blazing Saddles"
  4. Have not gotten a date, yet for the Hamilton swap. Still asking around. The Niagara Outdoor Show is on Sun, March 10th, Ft Erie Leisureplex
  5. Cute
  6. And so it begins. I see the arguments of 40 years back, beginning to rear their heads again. What happens when the peaceful protests do not produce the desired results? You escalate?. Lengthy blockades of the railway and the Trans Canada anyone. I do hope the behaviour does not go down that path again
  7. . I need more salsa that Bruce makes. I hope I still have some left by then.
  8. These acts of peaceful disruption have been used before. There were many highway and railroad disruptions back in the 70's and early 80's. Those actions also had serious consequences. Some communities polarized between native and non-native, forcing people to chose sides along racial lines. Both sides being equally guilty. Some communities were hurt by the disruptions, and those people retaliated economically. I fear this will again bring about a similar polarization.
  9. Still looking for a 16" perch, and a 40lb carp I can verify this time.
  10. Apparently they are rebuilding their website. Some lodges do completely shut down in winter, and you may wait 2-3 weeks for a response.
  11. We used to have small arms instructors who had no problem pegging targets with the old LeeEnfield III and IV at ranges of 1 mile without all the gadgets. I still remember... " Downs!!! Having trouble finding the target?? 25 pushups for each round missed." The 5 with the lowest scores that day got an extra trip to the Assault course. You got proficient real quick
  12. I used to regularly take my kids out of school for some quality "Dad" time. School principal only made a noise once. A half hour call to the school trustee shut him up. As for sickdays/ fishing/mental health days. Lot of employers frown heavily on the practice.
  13. Been there a couple of times. Worst example resulted in a police chase with $7Gs and 6 weeks in repair costs to our Oldsmobile. The punk had just gotten out of jail 2 weeks earlier for, you guessed it, auto theft. 2 days later he was again released on his own recognizance pending trial. He would have been safer in jail.
  14. Like the saying goes. "A woman scorned....."
  15. Looks just like NFN. This could get confusing after a few pops
  16. The same number as my fave highway..... 69
  17. As a rule, help houses are supposed to be temporary structures. The usual buildings being portables, mobile homes, trailers. All of which lack a foundation. The moment you lay down a foundation for living accomodations, your structure will fall under the Ontario building code. Perhaps the municipality may give some leeway. I have not met many building inspectors willing to show much flexibility, mind I stopped building houses 12 years back.
  18. Go IceDogs. Who needs the NHL anyway.
  19. They are beautiful and loyal dogs. Biggest summer drawback is the drool. Duffy was like a travelling Niagara Falls.
  20. Behaviour and temperament of a dog has more to do with the upbringing and training of the individual dog, than the breed itself. Resist the urge to bring home pups as soon as possible. It is a convenience and money saver for the breeder. Some pups are even weaned prematurely by a breeder. It is a constant problem encountered with pups from large scale and small scale puppy mills. My wife and kids brought home one such puppy, at 9 weeks, despite my hesitation. What a mistake. That breeder, and a few pet stores, were finally busted for running a puppy mill operation. A good vet ( read old school) will help steer you towards a reputable breeder Any reputable breeder will wait 12 weeks or more before removing a pup from it's litter. Generally, the longer the pup is interacting with the litter, the better it will socialize with other dogs. After that it's up to the owner of the new pup to teach it social skills with children, strange dogs, strange people.
  21. A small buckshot tipped with grub or minnow
  22. Skim coat on ponds and shore ice here. Nothing more than 1/2" at best.
  23. Well done, and Happy New Year, Lorne
  24. CBC is running a feature on the Mummers down home
