  1. Nice lakers Brian , that is some dedication getting out there in that wind . Couldn't help but notice your bait , that is a big bait !!! I do a lot of laker jigging myself and have tried big baits like that and have not got a sniff , they like the smaller stuff where I go . Goes to show you that the baitfish in Simcoe are big and plentiful . Keep the laker reports coming and be safe out there
  2. Have a cottage in that area and have a couple suggestions for yah . Have not been in several years but you can try Tiny Marsh on county rd 29 , It is a provincial wetland park and as of a couple years ago had loads of panfish . It would be approx. 20 min drive from the Balm Beach area. Another spot would be the Midland town docks , throw out a worm and you never know what you will catch there . Midland is a 20 min drive as well . Good luck
  3. Nice lake trout Brian , love the laker reports
  4. That one fish is a hawg for sure . I would say at least 7lbs , nice catch !!!
  5. I don't even know what to say about this other then this individual is a loser looking for a free ride to Mikes fishing spot . I know what it takes to go through all the homework and phone calls and map study to find gems like this and to have some loser go about it in this fashion really pisses me off . I feel for yah Mike !!!!
  6. Beauty , I have to make it up there one day .
  7. Agree with all comments above . I fish a remote cold/clear lake for lake tout and smallmouth and have discovered that the smallies in this lake are somewhat palegic and feed off shore . They are tough to find but once you find them its game on . Another thing that I have experienced in clear lakes is to fish about 30 mins after the sun goes down . The smallmouth come into the shallows to feed under the cloak of darkness in these clear water lakes . Top water all the way here . Good luck
  8. Timely topic here Simon , I just got back from a fishing trip and this somewhat happened to me . I was clearly drifting down a shoreline making casts when this guy and his wife pull up in there boat just 50ft away from me down drift and drop anchor and they start fishing . Now I know I don't own the lake but some common sense should come into play here , total idiot move on a large lake with very few fisherman . Now the guy in your case Simon is the definition of an idiot and a total Bull move especially when you have your son in the boat having a good time catching fish . Rant over
  9. Great report my man . Those are some real tank lakers you guys got into , the specks aren't bad either........ lol Those flies are the worst !!! Thanks for sharing Bunk .
  10. Great report , I need to get up there someday !!!
  11. Thanks for sharing the report Chris , looks like good times
  12. Looks like you had those lakers dialed in . Some nice fish there :clapping:I am out jigging lake trout almost every week on my cottage lake and love it . They get easier to catch and pattern the hotter it gets , a definite untapped fishing resource in a lot of Ontario lakes . The boat looks great as well , thanks for sharing !
  13. Lookin good Drifter . My back is sore just looking at those pictures !!! It will be well worth all your hard work when its completed
  14. I use them all but like windguru the best .
  15. I thought someone here might of seen it . Sounds like you were thinking the same as me as you approached it . Agree with some better signage , the sign they had looked like a "Garage Sale Ahead" sign . Definitely need more of these checks on the highways though, I'm sure they nailed a lot of guys yesterday
  16. I have seen the checks before on side roads or trails but never on a major highway like the #400
  17. That's why I kept trucking down the road but that's really the question . There was no one directing vehicles on the highway to pull in so how would you know to pull in ?
  18. While on my way home yesterday from a camping/fishing trip on the #400 just south of Parry Sound I seen a CO truck backed up into a rock cut with a sign in front of it stating that there was a spot check ahead . First reaction was did I just see what I saw and am I suppose to pull in and get checked . The check was in a rest spot just off the highway and it was quite the operation. From what I saw there were at least 5 CO trucks and a couple OPP cruisers involved . So as I approached I decided to carry on down the highway and not pull in . About a KM down the #400 there was two trucks pulled over with boats and a couple CO trucks parked behind them and the CO's were ripping these guys stuff apart on the side of the highway, I'm assuming they were suppose to pull in and the chase was on . Anyways , I have traveled this highway for along time and have never seen anything like this before so my question for the group here is who is suppose to pull into this spot check . Is it everyone who fishes or hunts that day or on previous days or is it vehicles towing boats . I wasn't towing a boat just a couple quads but there is no denying the fact I had been fishing for the last 5 days so was I suppose to pull in to get checked , I have no idea . It was a welcoming sight to see this check but it has left me wondering !!!
  19. Just got back from a camping/fishing trip in this general area and I can say the blackflies are out in full force . Swollen/itchy hands are in full effect today !!! Skeeters were even out buzzing around which was surprising . Its going to be a bad couple months coming up for biting bugs me thinks.
  20. The blackflies started coming out a couple days ago just inland from Parry Sound and have really not started to bite yet but it won't be long . No skeeters yet . Things are still a bit cool up there and I believe the flies and everything else are a bit behind . With the warm weather coming next week I'm sure they will be out in full force by the long weekend . I have spent a lot of time in that area and I find that it can depend where you are and how bad the bugs are . I have been in the Mckellar area and it is crawling with blackflies meanwhile go to a couple lakes just north of there on the same day and there is nothing . As for the thermacells , I use them and I believe they do help a bit . Worth the $40 in my opinion .
  21. Can't believe this story , well actually I can . What the hell is this world coming too . Can't get pontoon boat off dock so what the hell , lets steal the dock and the boat Hope it has just gone a drift on you guys and you get it back soon . I would imagine it wouldn't be an easy task to steal a pontoon boat , good luck !
  22. Annual backwoods quad trip in central Ontario fishing for lake trout . Can't wait !!!
