Can't say i blame them but just another spot to cross off the list for free access. Good thing i've got a sled this year so travelling long distance won't be an issue.

Looks like you had a killer year man! Thanks for sharing.

Shouldn't be called news anymore. Maybe we could come up with some short form for Keep People Distracted From What Really Going On In The World. -
Hard Water Species Targeted This Season
12footspringbok replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
I'll be going for perch until the big water on simcoe is safe, then it will be all lakers and whities. Almost have the new ice fishing sled tuned up just waiting for my clutch parts that are on back order to come in Maybe i should just drop the $400 and get a whole new clutch fromthe states. -
I like the X4 flatfish in the skunk colour. These lures can be deadly at this time of year, if the proper technique is used. Problem is i don't quite have the technique down yet....

That was a nice report thanks for sharing.

Well after largly ignoring rainbow fishing this fall due to other "priorities" decided i'd give it a good go today. Had pretty high hopes after hearing how well some people did last weekend... Started out bright and early loaded a friends canoe up with the trolling motor and off we went. Tried this and tried that, tried everything in the box lol... Finally after the sun peaked out shortly after noon i got one 4 and a half pounder. Going to give it a try again tomorrow without the canoe. I'm too big and after 5 hours in this canoe i remembered why i haven't been in one for five years.

What got me into fishing, well my earliest memory was probably when i was 3 or 4 at 4am having my dad wake me abruptly from my sleep yelling c'mon were going to the perch derby or something like that...lol Thanks dad Runs in the blood for me i think though, my Opa and Grandfather were both into fishing.

Thats a sick sled man! Hate to have to take her out on simcoe when theres no snow on the ice though! Heres my machine picked her up last night courtesy of the good old supershopper! 1990 Polaris indy trail $900 in pretty good shape, will be giving her a going over this week. Those whitefish and lakers and going to have a tuff time running this year!

To collect salmon roe or not ?
12footspringbok replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
I keep a bunch of nice early run silver salmon each year to eat, the roe is definatly a bonus for me. I have found myself feeling guilty about keeping the females the past few years. Especially after reading a few reports saying the g-bay tribs i fish have a very high amount of naturally reproducing salmon. But like others have mentioned they were originally stocked to keep the alwives under controll, now that they are under controll maybe its just time for the salmon to move on. I can only hope that atleast a small run of these fish does remain. I don't see anything wrong with keeping a few females as long as the entire fish is utilized. Anyhow you asked so i gave my 2 cents. -
I always bring my can of bear mase with me when i'm up north, just in case.

Guess it depends what water body you're on. I personally have decent luck in pockets than are 40-60ft deep close to bottom. From what i understand the water temperatures are alot more stable down there this time of year. But ya they put the feed on something fierce this time of year, don't be afraid to go out on those super cold crappy days, sometimes it turns them right on.

Good stuff nothing like seeing the fruits of your labour! -
Nice catch! Nothing better than the feeling of a salmon smashing the old jointed rapala. Thanks for sharing.

Nice pics, looks like ya got a few decent salmon for eating there. Just topped off an awsome september myself with a trip up north for some grouse hunting. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry i got on this one a little late. I don't think its all that big a deal to post a general area like some others have already mentioned. However posting a specific spot where the fishing is very good or the fish are vulnerable to over fishing its never good. I personally think that generally the type of anglers that are going to try a specific spot because they heard it was good or because so and so on the internet catches lots there all the time are the type of angler that are going to be easily discouraged because they don't have a clue what they are doing in the first place. Anyways just a couple of my thoughts....

I go up there every spring with some guys from work. There is no shortage of good spots to try. Grab yourself a chart of the area you'll see what i mean. Good luck!

You must not be "offering" the right things. Or maybe you should stop trying to "feed" them and start trying to tick them off.
