I've tried a few different methods procure, borax, pickling salt. Always end up going back to just cleaning the blood out of them real good and air drying them. They don't last near as long but i've always had better luck with my roe au naturel.

Went down with a couple buddies this morning. Man was it ever chilly, guess it was just what we needed to bring some fresh salmon and the odd rainbow up. Drifted roe for a good hour this morning with no luck at all. Picked up the casting rod started casting away. My buddy asks if he can try my rod with the roe on it two drifts later he nails the little bow Anyways there are a few around i guess.

I don't know why they don't just make any river sections shallower than two feet deep sanctuaries. WHO DOES THAT, SERIOUSLY?

I tried the vanish maybe 5-6 years ago when it first came out. Read some stuff on it that said it was supposed to be awsome. Filled my whole spool with it. Did a bunch of rainbow fishing with it. Was NOT impressed at all poor knot strength, and found it got frayed and stretched easily.

Well headed down the "hole" this morning with intentions of trying to hook up with some chrome. Drifted some eggs for the first hour and a half or so. No luck with the rainbow thing, either none around yet or they just were'nt hungry this morning. Did hook up with a Few chinny's though. Forgot how fun it is to do battle with these scrappers on the 6lb test and noodle rod. Yes a few floats and hooks were lost in the process, all in good fun though. Grabbed the 8 footer and threw the old faithful CC shad for about a half hour after i decided there was no rainbow to be had and managed one. Heres the pics of the salmon. Kept the one cleaner fish for the smoker and it was a female which was a bonus. Got her home cleaned her up and found the eggs to be still really tight no big deal though. Heres how i prepare my roe thats still tight in the skein: Step one scrape the eggs out of the skein gently with a spoon. Step two put the freshly scraped eggs in a couple layers of paper towel rolling the eggs around and over the paper towels until all the little veins and blood have been absorbed or stuck to the paper towel. Depending on how tight the eggs are you may have to repeat this process several times. Step three let them dry in the air for 1-2 hours or until they start to almost turn kind of clear and they harden up a bit. There you have it! I find these eggs will last two years in the freezer no problem as long as mosst of the air is sucked out before they are frozen. They will last 1-2 weeks inthe fridge. P.S. I'm sorry if you don't like using roe as bait or think its wrong.

Sorry about your loss. Look at it on the bright side though sounds like he had a good long life. Cool looking cat always liked orange tabby's, hope to get one some day myself.

I'd be willing to bet there will be a few around this weekend. Supposed to get some cold nights the next few days. I'll be alternating casting for salmon and floating for bows this weekend.

First Salmon from the Pier for '09
12footspringbok replied to farsider's topic in General Discussion
Exellence! Have to start calling them salmon the fish of a thousand casts. I know i've put my time casting in this fall, well worth it though. -
No thanks, i've done a bit of reading on the topic myself. Some of the ingredients in the shot have basically been fast tracked through with no long term studies on side effects. And, by the way GCD i'm afraid of pin pricks no matter how small!

Salmon/Steelhead run @ G-bay?
12footspringbok replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
Salmon are running right now. As for rainbows I just got in with a friend from wasaga and we got 3 bows 80 feet down over 100. They'll be a while away from heading upstream. -

Nottawasaga river. Ya its not a walleye diver but a rapala taildancer. Those salmon get angry at that little baby rainbow colour...lol -
Well i've fished the river 4 times this year prior to this morning with no luck at all. Pounding a spot that used to produce easily 10-20 hits in a morning, even last year i'd get one or two in a morning. So got up at five am hoped my luck would change and off i went. Ended up with four fish on and got these two. Things are still looking pretty grim for the salmon run up here these two had the typical thin skinny bodies, should still taste good once they're through the smoker. Atleast there are still a few around. Anyhow heres a couple pics.

Got lucky this year antlerless for me 1st one ever but they're hard as hell to come by in unit 42.

I was up there last weekend, east of 69. Tried worms in the 10-40 foot depths on structure with no luck. However, we did get 2 decent sized eyes while trolling for pike in the 8-10ft depths in the middle of the day we were surprised to say the least. Good luck!

MMMMMMM.......Garlic...lol -
Well work has been soooooo slow lately it hurts. Seeing as how i have access to all kinds of fancy machinery at work, and when i saw how much they want for a decent cannon ball i thought i'd make my own. Wasn't too sure what the comparison of weight for steel v.s. lead was so i did a little research and found mild steel has roughly 2/3rds the weight of lead. The lead ones we usually use are ten pounds so i though i'd aim for twelve because of the bigger size/more resistance in the water. Made a quick design on cad, cut the steel welded her together machined on some large chamfers and voila. Ended up being 12.9lbs mostly because it took longer than i thought to make and i got too lazy to finish the other profiles i was hoping to put on. Anyways here she is and i hope it tracks straight!
