Carp-Do people really throw the fish on shore as fertilizer
camillj replied to livinisfishin's topic in General Discussion
True .. and if I am not mistaken ... so is the 'white-man' By the way .... does anyone know what the final story was from last years big Carp die off in the Kawarthas ??? -
Lets see the pics Wayne !
-
Great report Wayne, glad the day went well .. sorry to hear about that skunk ! I cant believe I missed it ... next year maybe ... almost did the drive up to Muskoka to retrieve my gear (which I left at the cottage last weekend like a doorknob after all the rain we had)
-
Yep ... I bought those too ... its amazing the difference .. like cutting through butter
-
Hey Joe, I was thinkin of you the other day .. say a licence plate HDHUNTER (near Roselawn) ... wondered if it was yours ?
-
You can walk out from the fish-for tyler event tomorrow and within a few hundred yards you're into lakers ...they're there ... now ... catching them is up to you
-
I'd say 10 minutes of riding your 2 stroke across a lake would be more than a lifetimes worth of WD40 pollutant so its probably a MOOT point. Remember ... most of the two-stroke oil you mix with your gas gets spat out into the lake (in the older motors you could actually see it burping out) - nowadays it gets blown out with the propwash so its harder to spot ... but in my experience there is a definite (even if only psychologically produced) improvement when you spray your hands with it before fishin (I actually spray my whole reel with it .. the line then has a residual scent) ...

It always best to fish ... whenever you have the chance !
-
Funny thing .. I heard it was caught on a Duckling !
-
Very Pretty looking fish .. thanks for sharing ! Was this lake X accessible on foot .. or did you need a sled to get there ?
-
Sorry guys .. just practicing ...but seriously .. when are we gonna do our team picks for 2008 ? I am fully expecting to post my biggest 2008 NGL Trout for my team next weekend ... and would HATE to see it not count ... I'm taking pictures with the logo ... but what date do I need to put on it ???? Just kidding .. besides ... now I am pretty much destined to do a peppy-la-pew Oh .. btw ... in case I am not here ... I ONLY register fish for team 7 .. so its better that I get put on that team

Deepest condolences Dan.

Johnnyb .. cant get too specific without asking for trouble Truth is they are both great lakes and most locations will produce (for me the ticket as been finding 30 - 45 feet of water near a drop off) ... the locals who fish these lakes know what they are doing ... and its hard to hide ... so look for huts and people ... you'll probably find fish Failing that, talk to John at Bait-on-the-lake (Glen Orchard) he'll point you in the right direction. I was up this weekend and did really well right at Port Sandfield (lake Rosseau side)... just be careful to stay FAR away from the open water ... you'll see a couple of huts out there ... stay south of them ... there is quite a current flowing under the bridge so the ice can be pretty variable. Also saw several fish caught in under an hour off of Ferndale Road.

So sorry to hear Mike . Time is too short ... take every minute of it and make it count. Meanwhile our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

One way to turn bad karma into goo dis to donate Just out of curiosity (dare I ask) .. what exactly is a dead pool ?
-
Wow ... what a shame to have to pick with so many lakes as yet unfished ... but for me assuming travel was not the issue (otherwise Id go with something really close to home - quantity vs quality does matter when we're talking forever) ... I think Id go with Great Bear
-
For my money I really like the wetskins (about $125 at CT) .. I look like an offshore cod fisherman .. but hey I am WARM and DRY on the coldest spring ZEC rainy days ... works for me .. I even used it on the ice last year before I got my fancy shmancy Helly-Hanson survival suit

Cliff, if you go right up to the top of the island there is parking and easy access (ask at the causeway bait and they can guide you in) ... its actually a much easier walk out from there (fewer huts) ...only a few hundred yards from you car and you can park (which can be a problem near Goreski's) -
Wow ... pretty sad ... guess we better stick to fishin ... cause we aren't smarter than 5th graders .. this is 5th grade math by the way .. in the absence of brackets (as per the orginal Skill testing question) ... the only correct answer is ..... 10 X 3 + 5 X 6 / 2 = 30 + 15 = 45 ... and NOBODY got it ! Rich was the closest except he forgot that 30 + 15 = 45 (not 30)

Yes, thanks Mark ... it really helps to stop and think once in a while ... to appreciate what we have ! And to remember that we have so much we can offer to others ... even if it is just a little bit of our time !
-
Wow .... I mean .... WOW ! The guy said he saw her again a week or so later ... so there is a happy ending Thanks Lew .. Now I cant wait till the ice melts and I havent even been out yet
-
Great news Rick, glad to hear things are moving along well ! Soon enough all will be back to normal

Rosseau is still a great bet ... Should be some good ice by now but be careful it opened right up during the thaw. Lots of places up the East side of the lake (as you head towards Three Mile from Brandy), andywhere around Windermere and if you look out from Port Sandfield you will almost always see huts (if the ice is safe) ... thats pretty much all accessible on foot On Joe ... after Feb 15th ... Up by Gordon Bay Marine ... across from CNIB... Appian Way also all accessible on foot ( I dont own a sled and I almost always get at least one laker) How has the pickeral been on Brandy these days ?
