  1. if anybody is around up there, just wondering how much snow you guys have and how are the lakes doing for ice with the cold week last week I know the snow can be variable in different parts of the county, we are between Minden and Moores Falls thanks
  2. I'm interested in what people will say about this too, I have to heat my cottage basement with electric heat I think whatever type of electric heater you have, baseboard, ceramic, oil filled rad etc, all will put out the same heat for the wattage used, a baseboard will heat up quicker, but an oil filled rad will still give off heat after it's shut off get a wood stove, a little work and the heat's almost free
  3. I agree, I would rather see the "stupid archy things" on the screen than a fish symbol that may or may not be a fish I can remember fishing with some guys who don't get a chance to fish very often, the one guy couldn't believe how many fish icons were appearing on his graph, he was in 8 feet of weedy water
  4. so far so good tonight, 2-1 Leafs with 15:00 min left in the 3rd
  5. that's cool, we call "giant walters" giant pics, the only fish we might find near this cache are probably some creek chubs in the overflow drainage
  6. giant walter?
  7. that's cool, I live close by and have heard good things about Discovery too, I can't remember the name, but the Ford dealer on Walkers Line doesn't seem to treat customers in the same fashion (just what I've heard and experienced)
  8. I've had a GPS for 10 years but today we decided to try geocacheing We downloaded a cache, it was in a place where we normally walk the dog, it wasn't like the GPS lead us right to the spot, it was more like we kind of got close and had to snoop around, my wife found a plastic box in a dead fall tree, inside there was some cheap dollar store stuff and a book to sign, we signed it and put everything back, it was pretty cool anybody else have similar experiences?
  9. I'd agree, you live in a pretty cool place, pay extra for gas but the GTA sucks
  10. I'm pretty lazy, but I'll try, maybe I'll see if my wife can handle it, the computer has trouble with uploading photos
  11. thanks guys, I haven't devoted much time, but there is at least 2 Lawson and 2 Inglis reels in there, seems like most of the reels are from the 30's and 40's but they aren't worth as much as you would expect, I bought a book online (still waiting for it) that evaluates the classic stuff
  12. my uncle passed away, he was a great outdoorsman and fisherman, funny story- I knew him as a guy I'd swap fishing stories with at work, before I knew he was my uncle! he was a collector, borderline pack rat, but didn't buy cheap stuff, I have about 30 spinning and 30 level wind reels, I'm looking for a website to research these reels thanks
  13. that's a great opportunity, untouched lakes are hard to come by, that's also an awesome area to be lucky enough to explore, looking forward to the trip reports from the first OFNer's to get in there
  14. I think the Leafs have played pretty good even though they can't win games, they don't seem to get the bounces lately and their goaltending is weak though. I think you have to go to the bottom and draft well for a few years before you can rise to the top, like Pittsburgh, Chicago, the leafs seem to trade draft picks in hoping for instant sucess.
  15. We are considering going to one of their outposts and anyone who has been could probably help us out. thanks in advance
  16. I think you can only park a trailer if you have a building permit for the construction of a permanent place (ie you are only staying in the trailer temporarily), but I also think things up north aren't always as enforced as they are in the city, there's 2 trailers on a little property beside our cottage and nobody seems to mind and they have been used for years
  17. We are thinking about a trip to Windsor Lake on the Attawapiskat. We usually get our maps from the MNR store (base maps). They don't cover some northern areas including this river. Does anyone have an idea of how to get a decent map? So I can look at it, and dream, through the long winter. thanks
  18. I'm sure I speak for everyone, when I say I hope for the best.
  19. typical, another disaster, there won't be much left by the time we realize it's too late
  20. I have an 05 Polaris Trail Blazer, it's a basic, small, 250 two stroke, simple to fix and service, it's been great, no fixing as of yet (knock on wood) and I am happy with it's performance I'm also a Yamaha fan, 2 outboards, 1 sled and 1 scooter plus many other Yamaha products in the past (even my guitar is a Yamaha), you made a good choice with the Yamaha, enjoy, post the adventures you and your new Yamaha have
  21. was up there on the weekend too, the leaves are pretty well gone
  22. wow, it looks like they really dammed the heck out of the Nipigon R
  23. Haliburton, last December, 122 cm of snow in 3 days (40 plus per day), we came up at the end of it, in the dark, got the truck stuck, hiked 2 kms to the cottage in 2 hours, had to carry the dog too because he couldn't swim in snow, it was a memorable, tough, and great weekend all at the same time
  24. beer tab, cigarette butt, bare hook, they all work fine, the guy is pretty proud of himself, at least he snags fish with 50 lbs test so the fight doesn't last for half an hour, I guess he's a good sportsman
