  1. I haven't seen one yet, but these critters are boring into my gazebo, the holes they are making are about 1cm in diameter, once in awhile they will throw out a little puff of fine, sawdust, they are going vertically and horizontally I don't think they are powder post beetles because the holes are too large just wondering if I should retaliate with a counter attack because my structure is going to collapse, or am I okay just to watch these little buggers thanks
  2. what part of the French were you at?
  3. some ideas, The French River, Onaping, Biscotasi
  4. Post the question with specifics (lake name etc) on http://www.myccr.com/ it's a fairly active canoe trip website, if someone knows the area, they will likely help, and they won't steal your fishing spot,
  5. thanks guys, looks like we'll leave a little early and get them there, ummm, maybe stop again on the way home too, sound like a plan
  6. Fishing trip in a week to QC. Should we buy our beer in ON or QC? I'm always trying to avoid being taxed to death. Merci
  7. while fishing/ boating in Haliburton, I was shocked at how many people were blatantly fishing for bass and didn't seem at all secretive. They didn't look like the most serious fisher people, but it wasn't a worm and a Canadian Tire red and white bobber either, some from boats, some from shore I guess we need more enforcement
  8. I'm pretty sure you won't find any lakers flat line trolling. I've fished Haliburton for lakers every weekend since ice out, the water is likely around 60 degrees (surface), so here's my tip use your fishfinder, look in the 50 to 80 foot range and vertical jig a spoon when you find some fish, (hopefully it's not too windy/ choppy), 3 inch mepps cyclops would be a good choice, stay close to bottom
  9. I'm happy with my Humminbird 565 although I don't use it for shallow water reading
  10. Hey Terry, where are you flying into? always curious about that stuff
  11. I have an MSR filter and I'm not happy with it, way too slooooooooow, my Dad has the one from Can Tire (can't remember the make, it's off white with blue letters) and it works great, pretty fast, around $65 I've had beaver fever twice, it sucks but doesn't kick in until 2 or 3 weeks after your trip, if you get it, ask the doc for Flagil (sp?), it works quick
  12. can't go wrong with Captain Highliner and McCain Fries (maybe add a couple Lucky Lager too), good luck on the opener, let us know how you do.
  13. i'm a Leaf fan, but I hope they win (looks like they will, 5-2 Habs so far)
  14. that's good to hear that they stand behind their stuff, I like Rapala rods too, for the price, great sensitivity, but they do seem to break out of the blue
  15. I have a 12' Tracker jon boat from Bass Pro, it was cheap, it's very light ( I can portage it myself), the aluminum seems very thin (no leaks yet though), it rides very poorly in choppy water, goes great and fast in smooth water with just 8hp, very light in the front though, I'm happy with it so far, I take it easy on it when beaching it because it does seem fragile
  16. Where are you heading near Chapleau? just curious
  17. I really like my 565 too, I've always been happy with Humminbird
  18. I've had a curado for 12+ years and it still works great, never had a problem, easy baitcaster to cast, great performance, alot of it's use was as a muskie real (big, heavy baits, jamming it into gear etc), no problem I even prefer my curado to my more expensive calcuta
  19. 2 lakers and 3 ciscoes, all 70 to 90 feet down, vertical jigging a spoon, they didn't seem very active and lots were suspended at all different depths I could see the MNR CO talking to some guys taking their boat out, they were there talking a long time (around an hour) so I guess there was trouble, when the CO left I over heard the guys saying "he must have had binoculars" and something about "a border-line slot fish", busted!
  20. pretty sure they don't clip the caudal (tail), it may hinder the fish, pectoral or pelvic fins are the ones usually clipped
  21. I like Joe Bowen, he gets excited, always has a few laughs and seems like a nice guy. "Holy Mackinaw", we've found our new play by play guy!
  22. sounds like a rainbow???? they run up in the spring
  23. anywhere from $250 for a beater, or, if it's in decent shape, newer, and is a good make, maybe up to $800, fiberglass canoes aren't as attractive as kevlar, royalex etc
