  1. what systems are you fishing?? Niagara, Notty, the Saugeen are large systems that offer ideal conditions for a 13-15' rod with good backbone for fighting them in the fast stuff. The longer rod also offers more direct float control which equals a better presentation resulting in increased hook ups. Smaller tribs equal 10'-13' med/light rods or even shorter depending on the bush whacking involved. In my opinion you can't go wrong with a 13'-13'.5 rod with a bit of backbone. RF
  2. That guy Mike fought was a monster, your Bro's got ball's.. Ryan
  3. My own reasons were, Fan cooled = narrower power bands. All I need is a little snow for the cooling plates vs colder temps for a fan cooled sled to preform at its peak Liquid cooled+higher tolerances in most cases.... Fan cooled have there place but just not when it hits 8-10c on the ice, all sleds are different but most fan cooled sleds I have seen run rough in these conditions . I do like the Tundras and Skandics though! RF
  4. Long tracks are great, for average access areas nice and comfy ride carry 2 people ect, but for the back lakes you cant beat the older 300's nice and small trail blazers so you can pick them up and get them back on track when they bog down in the deep backwoods snow. Little harder to lift long tracks out of the deep stuff. Also I would stick with a liquid cooled machine if your doing a lot of ice fishing. I have my long track for sale in the classifieds again as of today. If your interested let me know. RF

  12. I Second Solopaddler, Backbone in a rod is everything if ya want to beach the any river run chinnys. It is doable with your outfit, but just easier with more backbone in the rod. At least your into the fish!! Enjoy them, even if they snap off RF
  13. Well spoke to MNR and whom ever set the bait is well with in their rights. This is what I expected. MNR said it is likely an outfitter with several baits in the area (comforting, LOL..) so I will purchase my bear tag and see what happens. Super brookie fishing in the area so I will be frequenting it till sept 30. keep ya posted. Thanks for the reply's . RF
  14. Hey guys, went out to one of my favorite brookie lakes on the edge of Algonquin today with the intention to camp at a nice spot we have been going to for years(fire pit, benches, good ground the works) You drive about 15km down a 4x4 road and than walk about 500' and your at the lake/pond. With the wife and dogs still in the truck I tell her Im headed down just to make sure the sites unoccupied. I cover the 500' in no time with the blinders on! just thinking about the brookies Iam about to catch and ignoring the Bears sitting on someone's bait pile less than 200' from the site!!!!!!!! Its the first time we have seen this here. What is bear baiting etiquette? a warning would be nice, and what gives with the site so close to the camp sites that are used often? The only tip off I got was the freight trains taken off through the bush holy "HEART ATTACK". Needless to say wifey was not spending the night even with 200lbs of dogs and the 12 Gauge(not the first bear issue). S o with the wife spooked here I sit back at home :wallbash: As an avid upland game and deer hunter the bear thing is new. Rf
