OT: Selling the sport compact and getting a V8 Cherokee :)
Rustic-Fisher replied to cityfisher's topic in General Discussion
Had Jeeps for years! They were great. Even had the v8 grand cherokee. electrical issues with all of the ones I had not much to repair once the problem was found but it was just the time spent searching out the electrical problem. Off road the grand cherokee held its own and it was beaten!!! Tows anything great. Sold it with 285000 km and it still ran great and 4x4 worked. Since the jeep I now drive a super charged Nissan Xterra (and I thought the jeep was bad on gas ) Love the Xterra no problems yet and its great off road. Check out some of the online jeep forums for info also. J.E.E.P Just-Empty-Every-Pocket....LOL -
Thoughts are with you and your family RF

Actually the big 120 lber is a Cane corso, The boxer breed in general is a natural comic and clown and seems to do anything for a laugh,(cant even tell ya the amount of trouble he's got in LOL) The big guy, well he's all business. One of them or some times both are with me on the rivers I Float fish or the odd ice fishing excursion. Just keep your gulp baits close if ya ever see them running around. The boxer has also been known to steal a fish or two!!! RF

LOL.... Can't stay mad at them. Come trout season the boxers hobby is eating roe bag netting found at home or on the river bank. Drives me nuts worrying about ingested hooks from the river bank but so far so good. The netting does make for a colorful clean up in the back yard though, LOL.. RF

Bought a bunch of gulp baits on the weekend and found that not only do they out fish live bait but also are extremely effective in coaxing dogs into feasting on the unopened packages of bait.( my fault for leaving them out) 4 packs of gobys. Vet says what goes in will come out LOL. A reminder for myself to watch what I leave laying around. the guilty RF

Nice pics, wind was bad that day, Movie makes it look like the whitie was snagged in the side though. That could generate some heat. Tight lines, Rustic -
Got out on the lake with a few friends today, started at long shoal and ended up on the far East side of the lake. Found schools of whities in 70' that were hitting great even had a few doubles on. Most fish were spoon feed and only a few came on minnow lines. Traveling conditions were great. Should be a good week out there Only 13 days left so have a blast. Tight lines, RF

Great report, much enjoyed

Hit Simcoe for a few hours today and boy did this cold front ever shut em down!! Marked fish but only a hand full were coaxed into hitting. Heres a pic of one of the lakers that I landed that was easy double digits in weight(size 11 snow boot as reference to size), sorry for bad pic but I was solo and wanted to send him back down the hole ASAP. All fish were caught in 77' off Long shoal using a small half half williams spoon. Ice conditions were great for sleds, ATVs and I did see a bunch of trucks out today. Tight lines, RF

Thats wild. RF

Head out towards the group of huts. That puts you in 70' min. From there break away from the crowds. Heading North East towards the Island may pay off RF

If your walking try anywhere in Kempenfelt Bay on the South side. ie Bear point, Big bay point ect.. This area of the Lake drops quickly and you will have no problem finding deeper water. Think 100' plus RF

Had a few hours to kill so I headed out on the Lake. Fished over around Fox and caught a few Lakers, whities and even perch. Conditions on the ice will be great for your event in the morning. I even seen a few cars and trucks out bombing around( I would not take mine out). Marked good numbers of fish so hopefully they will cooperate on Sat. Sounds like your day will be a blast, wish I did not have to work!!! Good luck! RF Heres a shot off the launch looking out on the lake One of the Lakers caught and released A little whitie, Looks like a herring but its not.

BPS pack rod, tons of soft jerk baits. Lews minnow baits (they already come with salt water hooks, and there cheap) These did the trick in Jamaica. R

Sorry, Ice was any where form 6" to 10" from what I saw today. r

Hey, Last second idea to head out, I;ll call ya next time steve, I was out about 4 miles off BBP. The slush was a little trickey in some spots but the long track sled did fine. As far as draging something under the sled, it was just a bungee cord I kicked out of the way for the pic. Thanks though. R

Quality better than Quantity any day of the week!

Great read, that 18lb laker is what keeps us going every year. Truly a magnificent specimen. Rustic -
Headed out for a few hours today. Parked at BP loaded the sled up and blasted off to BBP to meet some buddies. Got over to them at around Noon and they had a camp already set up and a few fish iced. Decided I would head out into the main basin and fish a shoal 4km away. Set up in 55' and marked only a few so in 20 min I packed up and headed deeper. 110' and start marking steady. Stayed out for 2hrs and hit around 10 lakers and a few whities, on of which was at least 7lbs that came of at the hole oh well next time. Packed up with one whitie and 2 BBQ sized lakers (2-3 lbers which are every where in that depth it seems this year). Traveling was not to bad but there were some deep pockets of slush around BP that could be an issue for ATVS. Tight lines, Rustic Pics include some buddies fish.

Speak of the devil, Just watched your brothers fight in Calgary 5 min ago. Lots of fish on this trip. Whities, lakers (all quickly released) and tons of ling. We schooled the BPS boys. Now its time to start really pounding them on Simcoe as our favorite area 6 km out is good to go! We'll get out, RY

A Few of the pics from the trip including the freezing sled ride for our one buddy without his own sled, and a cool shot of the imprint a bird left in the snow after snatching up its prey. Rustic

Well just got back a few days ago from Tamar vacations. The trip was a great. The guys at Tamar run a great operation and keep a great camp. All his cottages are heated by wood stoves giving you the extra rustic feeling while still having electricity and most of the amenities from home (even a couple dogs that roam the camp) The fishing proved to be fantastic on our first day just before the front came through whites were hitting good and the out of season lakers almost became a pain in the neck some times. (Where are they after opener LOL.) Whites were caught on buckshot’s and minnow chunks as well as small Williams’s spoons and spreaders. Think small if you’re targeting the whites. Ling proved to be abundant for constant entertainment after sun down, Large glow spoons tipped with minnows were key but I am sure the would hit anything. Depths that produced the best were 60' flats which were easy to find with gps charts. The whole trip we were mobile on sleds but rarely moved off that 60' flat. Bruce also has his huts in a productive location; whites were caught from both huts as well as lakers that were promptly released. Big fish of the trip came on our last day in the form of a 15lb laker that slammed a small Williams bounced off the bottom, and there was another that I fought briefly until it peeled 150 yards of 8lb fire line of the stradic effortlessly and then "SNAP". By far the biggest fish I have ever hooked through the ice in the past 3 yrs of ice fishing on the lake. I will try and post some pictures later in the week All seven guys that went up caught fish and we would reccomend Tamar to any other guys lookin for a great trip. Tight-lines, Rustic
