  1. That's what Iam talking about!! Nice pics
  2. Ya pretty cool, one of my good buddys was playing that night. I'll get the scoop over beers on the weekend.
  3. Yep, IBP. Talked with a few guys comming off the lake the other night.
  4. Nice Glad to see others enjoy the punishment of back lakes fishing!!! R
  5. Wow, that's great news, with the 10x Canadian tire bucks gas coupons and a thirsty Dodge Ram MegaCab I'll be able to buy highend gear a lot more lol
  6. Drop me a Pm if anyone is interested in following logging trails until your lost, stuck or hit a washout preventing further travel, bushwhacking through what seems like an impenetrable forest, this may include having a canoe over your head. Choking on mosquitoes and black flies until you feel you might lose your mind, breaking hundreds of dollars in gear over the years. And my personal favourite.... doing all the above and only catching rock bass or perch in a lake that was a sure bet. After 20 years of this I still enjoy heading out and punishing myself for a day or two looking for these different back lake gems, and be assured we have found them some of the better lakes are even within 2.5hrs of Barrie which make great day trips. R
  7. You may be right. Gives me an excuse to start targeting brookies, spake, and bows on some of those haliburton back lakes I've wondered about. Let's hope what little deep water ice we have stays.
  8. We had a good skim across the lake earlier in the week, now we have ice for the first 200-300 yards and then open water. Seems the winds reaked havoc on the ice yesterday. Frustarating year to say the least!
  9. Coming off the ice on Simcoe this evening I came across a a guy just LIVID, he had dragged his portable hut from the lake up onto the landing (end of a street) and left it there to go get his truck, rather than drag the hut a few blocks. Well guess what.... you guessed it, in the 5 min it took this guy to walk to his truck and drive back to the landing someone scooped his hut and gear. Drives me nuts all the idiots out there.
  10. VERY TRUE!!! The picks will likely play a greater role in saving your life. The orange suit will make you easier to find.
  11. Helly Hanson all the way, just put mine through 4 days of weather hell on Temagemi. Warm, stayed dry, and does not seem to stiffen up like other brands I have owned when exposed to extreme cold.
  12. Great, thanks for the info guys. R
  13. Yes our group will be staying at TAMAR. Are you with Morgan's group?
  14. Hey guys, anyone know who has minnows up that way. Headed up tomorrow and just got the news the outfitter is without minnows. Thanks, R
  15. I take them off, seem to always be in the way. Having said that, if someone watched me they may think I'm ripping fish. Aggressive jigging (3-5' jigs) to create a bunch of flash to bring them on the screen and than its either back to the bottom for those finesse fish or reeling it away from them and getting a strike 30' up over 70' ofw for those aggressive fish. When on bottom my jigs are nothing more than steady flutters right on bottom to stir the sediment up. Eyes glued to the electronics the whole time. Every year in Temagami thou I do try and jig up a few lakers on the stick just to do it old school. R
  16. BillM and Capt Bruce, Interesting read. Both of you have very valid points. Are either of you available to negotiate my one week temagami icefishing trip to my wife????lol R
  17. Ice a couple whiteys and leave em flopping on the ice at BBP on a saturday and you may come close to a crowd like that with your hole in the center LOL. Seriously thou that's nuts. I wonder what they are fishing for??
  18. Or the guy trying to push himself out on his inflatable over 1" of ice for a few perch Lol. Happened last week off gilfird lol
  19. Find yourself a good diawa SS whisker old school but a great steelie reel. Made in Japan is preferred.
  20. Nice One. Good thing you toughed it out
  21. Yes deafness is a concern over time, be especially careful with electronic beepers and there settings. Yes the bell helps you keep tabs on the dog, in my pointers case when the bell stops ringing he may be pointing a bird. Some say bells spook upland game causing game to flush well out of gunshot range, definitely true on some days, BUT I also believe that in some cases they pin the bird in place by confusing it. Electronic beepers even have a hawk screech setting and that definitely keeps birds pinned on the ground.
  22. Both bass pro and le barons stock them.Although I order from gundogsonline.
  23. One of the best ice reports I've read. Awesome fish !!
  24. Not unlimited and each time you get one they keep a record of it with your taxes. I really had to come up with some good excuses last year for an extra pass.
  25. I think you will likely see the barriers removed( or at least a few of them), Local fire/rescue personal will need a place for launching their ice rescue boats in the event of an emergency and thats the spot. I would not panic just yet. Although as mentioned its a great way to protect people from themselves. R
