  1. We all know there is no such thing as safe ice, ESPECIALLY on that lake when there are open sections. Municipal /provincial authorities will seldom give a complete thumbs up for activities where public judgement vs risk to public is to high. Liability is just to great. Should you pay if a rescue is warranted ? I don't think so, you pay taxes and part of those taxes involve emergency services no matter how stupid you are. BUT if your pulled from that lake a second time, your on the hook for something, and thats what the courts are for. Those rescuers did a great job in such adverse conditions, though you may not notice there was a few extremely dicey moments where the rescuers could of turned into victims as well . Though paid to preform technical rescues such as what unfolded that day the bottom line is a few fish aren't worth a few funerals as the fee you could end up paying is your life or someone else's . Unbelievably a few of the people rescued thought the emergency services life jackets (400$ a pop) were theirs to keep and slithered of with them. Hopefully we get a good freeze this year, Stay safe R
  2. I've seen guys doing if along ice shelves and getting fish.Another outing a guy was letting his Kwik fish hotshot under a large ice formation and pulled a decent rainbow right from under our noses !! I'd say deffinitly worth a try
  3. Took a tumble/swim into some water during a late season Splake trip wearing a Canada Goose Jacket, be warned they Weigh a TON when soaking wet which could lead to obvious problems should you end up submerged. They are extremely warm, so warm that sweat becomes a problem with any physical exertion. Nice coats for the right climate though. R
  4. Sierratradingpost.com Some good deals today.
  5. Great now I have two portables!!
  6. Spoke with the CO today, his take was that it was possibly gut shot, claimed, and then hung. Fearing the meat had spoiled they decided to ditch it . Still don't think it looked gut shot, but CO has seen more shot deer than I'll ever see . Was great to see how fast the MNR acted on this. Who knows how this all went down but at least it was investigated. And Brian, I gurrentee there's coyote snipers already sitting on this kill lol R
  7. Yep, my thoughts exactly , a week ago I would've given anything for a shot at a buck like this.
  8. I see what your saying, but as an avid hunter I have no doubt this animal was likely dropped on the spot or close to it. Shoot placement was perfect. R
  9. Brian, Looked to us like a slug wound, perfect shot placement. 100% SHOT!!! No questions. R
  10. Keep your eyes open for any suspicious behaviour in regards to deer poaching in the ESSA area. Unfortunately i stumbled across a sight that made me sick. Tossed carelessly of to the side of a path leading to the river was a 275lb+ buck minus its head and rack , hooves. Kill was no more then two days old and cleanly shot. All avenues have been taken in regards to reporting, but every little bit helps. These types of crimes just boil my blood, and I hope yours. I decided to post a few pics just to drive home the reality of this senseless waste. The worst part about the whole thing...... my wife and 3 year old were with me, explain that to a three year old (and for guys that don't have kids, their smarter then you think) Once again guys, If you see something suspicious dial 1-877-TIPS-MNR

  16. In smaller streams, spinners would be the ticket R
  17. Spoons, they cast further(most) thus covering more water, equaling more hook ups. R
