  1. You see that is what I told my friend. used to fish Simcoe with riggers about 20 years ago and we always used 40ft leads. My buddy insisted yesterday that we use 10ft leads! 10 ft! that seemed really short but he has got fish on them before so I cooperated.
  2. Great fish and great pics
  3. I caught a 19 the other day on simcoe and it weighed almost exactly 4 pounds so yours will be heavier than that.
  4. LOL. We were in 80-95ft of water. Bottom bouncing with green NKs. lol. Not for us today.
  5. You can catch fish in the Athabasca river. The bow is near Banff. If you want to drive about an hour north of Edmonton there is a nice lake called Amisk (sp?) lake. Full of walleye and pike. Long lake provincial park is ok as well. Pigeon Lake is just south of Edmonton (I believe) and it has big pike.
  6. The prices look very good but the cost to upgrade the motors to smething suitable seems high. Your $18000 boat all of sudden costs $23000.
  7. This came as a bit of news to me but apparently Hull is now officially called Gatineau. I think. Re. the trip. Vaughn Mills shopping center is very good. Wonderland is right there too so if you make a full day of it and if the wife likes to shop I would say YES.
  8. Launched from Barrie and went out to the big water. On the way we smelled a skunk. "Not a good sign" my buddy says. Last time he smelled a skunk on the way out that is exactly what he got. I laughed. Long story short. We cleaned spoons for 3 and half hours. Nothing. I decided I didn't want to get skunked so we pulled up and hit my smallmouth spot. Fished for about 30 minutes and we managed 4 fish. Here is a pic of one. Another football. They are already starting to pack on the pounds. The last half an hour salvaged what would have been a skunk-day. Better than nothing. Much better than work.
  9. cool pics. Rock bass for sure.
  10. Car and Driver BASSMASTER magazine Cabela's Fishing Catalogue They are all located next to my toilet so they get read regularly (no pun intended)
  11. My buddy has a pond that is about 150 ft by 150 ft. It was somehow stocked with largies 20 years ago Anyway, it doesn't really matter how they got there. The pond is 12 ft deep at its deepest point and it still has a good population of bass. There are some 3+ pound bass swimming around there.
  12. Nice fish! I used to bounce bottom on simcoe for lakers. Really gets them going. You can lose the odd cannon ball though. $$
  13. True story here. I was fishing donw about 80ft in Australia off a reef. Was using 5 inch pilchards. What I thought was a 10 pound rock cod turned out to be a world class Marlin. Jumped out of the water about 10 ft from the boat. Scared the heck out of me. Stayed on top of the water for the whole time it took to spool me (15 seconds for about 250 yards of line). I guess I had no chance with my 7' medium rod and 12 pound tests. LOL True story.
  14. It was very cold this morning. I was on the water by 6 am and was off by 10 this morning. It seemed to get colder and as you can see I was ill prepared wearing shorts and flip flops. i decide to try something new and was pleased with the results. I managed 12 smallmouth in time I was out there and lost 3 others. The bass are starting to get really fat. I think they are already in their fall feeding period. Despite the cold it was a great morning on Simcoe. Enjoy the pics
  15. Great job on the PBs for both or you. Those are nice fish. Pics of the eagle are very cool. I used to live in Winnipeg and there were thousands of pelicans there as well. They are enormous birds. PS. Good job marrying a girl who fishes.
  16. Nice fish. Looks like a good time.
  17. stop catching such big fish. That is what I do.
  18. Wow. Great fish, and from a kayak no less. Well done.
  19. Very true, and it is Christ's and I am not sure if the reference to him was necessary at all.
  20. I like 30 lb power pro or fireline. I have the 20lb fireline crystal on one rod and it works well. I fish simcoe alot so I rarely fish braid there. Mono there.
  21. THose are sweet!! You catch the sweetest brook trout. Keep em comin.
  22. Chattebaits are still a good pike lure and I have had good success with them at nicht for bass. I went to Alberta last summer and was throwing them for pike and I caught about 5 walleye on them (to my pleasant surprise). I don't think they are any better than a spinnerbait but in many heavily fished areas I am sure a fish might not have seen one where they might have seen a few spinnerbaits. it seems swimbaits have taken over as the bait to have and many people are also drop shotting or using a shakey head jig. Seems every year there is a trend and it doesn't mean that the old stuff doesn't work. I think people just jump on the bandwagon with new stuff (always looking for that ultimate lure).
  23. Cool wedding and some nice pics. Congrats
  24. spinning or baitcasting?
  25. Good day. Nice PB. Great perch as well.
