  1. Simcoe and couch are far from collingwood (1 hour to simcoe and farther to couch). Orr lake is about 35 mins away. If you message me I will tell you how to catch big bass there. Notawasaga river is only 20 minutes (maybe less) away. Give that a try.
  2. I had no problem with him asking me for my license I was just caught off guard. I like cops. I too figured he was just buying time to determine whether or not there was alcohol involved. My back sass was not designed to offend him. I was just surprised he asked for my fishing license. I am pretty sure he knew the boat was not stolen (see below description of boat) Here is what the cop saw. 1985 red(faded completely) ford pickup. The number 01 (general lee style)spray painted on the side of the door (the number 1 is even backward). On the driver's door it says "Jimmy" on the passenger door (unfortunately where I was sitting) it says "Jimmy's girl". On the front of the truck it says "mater". On the back it says "Git R Dun". On the rear quarter it says "Pimpin since '71". The wheelwells have been sawzalled away (got rid of the rust) and it has big tires on it. In the bed of the pickup the cop saw my boat. It is a 1960 12 ft aluminum. It has 2 paddles made out of fence board. It has no motor on it and it has a flat patio stone as an anchor. It has one battery and an original humminbird LCR 2000 fishfinder (1988). The name on the boat is Tony. The guy driving has huge hair and a goatee. I don't like to stereotype or profile but I too would have suspected alcohol. Here is a pic of the boat and the driver of the truck.
  3. Coming home from fishing last night we were stopped by the ride program. He asked the usual questions and because we had a boat in the back of the pickup he asked if we were fishing. We said yes and he asked if we had licences. My friend thought he said lights (as in on the boat) and he replies "we stopped fishing from the boat when it got dark and fished from the shore". The officer was confused and "what does that matter?" After the confusion was sorted out he made us produce our fishing licences. I questioned him about showing our fishing licences and he said "why do you think that is weird that I am asking for your licences?". I reply in a kind of smartass tone (sorry to police officers on OFC) "Because we are not fishing". He said "you do have fish though" and we replied "no, we let them all go". He said thanks have a good evening and we went on our way. He never asked for any divers licences, just fishing. I think it is great that he did this but at the same time it was odd and funny. I will have to post a pic of the pickup truck and you will see why he kept us there so long.
  4. I have 3 girls and it is difficult to get them interested. I do take them and even when we catch loads of fish they get disinterested after about 15 minutes. Oh well. I try not to pressure them but it would be great if they would want to come then I could fish more often without feeling bad about leaving the family behind. Great job with the fishing. Looks like a good weekend.
  5. different lures for different water clarity and time of year, depth, day or night, cover and especially species (largemouth or smallmouth). If you said I cold only have one artificial bait to take with me to catch bass I would have to go with a 5" senko and I would use a 5/0 wide gap owner hook. You can fish it in open water at any depth, on rocks, in heavy cover, over lilly pads on the surface, at day and at night. Smallmouth and largemouth both love it. You can not go wrong with this lure. Unfortunately pike love it too.
  6. My new favourite smallmouth bait is the Gulp alive 5" leech. Thyey are expensive but well worth it. Drop shot them about 2o". Deadly.
  7. If anyone finds either of my lucky craft lures on Simcoe can you return them. Thanks
  8. Good observation. It looks like the border is opaque. crazy
  9. Gar pike. you must have hit Gbay actually not 100% sure. I have seen gar in simcoe as well but not nearly as many as in Gbay
  10. Nice bass. Did she like it or get freaked out?
  11. That is a good deal. I got mine at BPS spring sale for 11.99. Wal mart and CTC sells power pro for 14.99 everyday as well.
  12. If it stays standing Rampage will retain his belt. Both these guys are good guys. Both have a great sense of humour and can laugh at themselves.
  13. I know that there is several commercial fishermen on Georgian bay that net walleye and seel them to stores, local markets. They are well within their rights as they have the appropriate licences. There are also several native fisherman who use nets around that area as well and they may be allowed to sell as well.
  14. Here is one for you. Bass tournament. Had a big smallmouth break off a tube jig. Came back 5 mins later hit the same colour/size tube jig. The first tube was still in his mouth only a bit further down. Not the smartest fsih in the world.
  15. I used a vanish 3' leader and tied it to my 30pound fireline. 10 casts and the vanish snapped and I lost a brand new custom painted lucky craft pointer 100 ($35)!!!!!!
  16. Nice fish!! I have 3 daughters and I can only hope and pray that they will want to come fishing with me. That is very cool.
  17. I didn't know the lake well so I bought 5 rods with. Unfortunatly my 7' heavy rod got broken the night before (bad luck). I ended up putting that reel with 30 pound power pro on a 6'6" medium caster (my crankbait rod). My only other baitcaster was on a 6'6" mh and the reel was spooled with 10 pound fluoro. My friend actually managed to get a hook set and pull that hog out of the slop with 10 pound fluoro. Not bad. my two other rods were spinning rods. We worked with what we had. I need to replace my big rod now. I caught another slab that morning before the tourney started (off the dock) and I thought it was big until I saw the other one. Mine was 12" and it hit a 3.5" tube.
  18. We had our fishing tournament on the lake and it was a blast. The lake has 5 major species that we were after; pike, walleye, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and crappie. The rules were simple. Team 1 vs Team 2 (each team had 4 members). 10 points were awarded for catching one of the species of fish and an extra 10 points for the team with the largest of that species. Therefore each species was worth a maximum of 20 points. Both teams were equiped with a tape measure and a camera. The tournament got started late due to the fact that there might have been a few people who had a few too many the night before. Anyway both teams were off by 11am. By 1:30pm both teams were back for the breakfast break. At that point my team was behind. Both teams had caught only pike and smallmouth but unfortunately the other team's pike and smallmouth were bigger and therefore they were winning 40 to 20. I was fishing a lot of gunk before breakfast and I had about 4 largies on but none were landed so I knew after the break we were goiong to eventually land one. Anyway the break lasted until about 5:30pm. Both teams set off again and immediately we went gunkin for buckets. After getting one close to the boat and losing it I thought we were done. A few more casts proved otherwise. My teammate gets into a big largie and we land it. It is an 18" 4 pounder. I am stoked at this point. We have our largie so now it is time to get a crappie and try and improve on out pike and smallmouth sizes. I pull us off the spot and go to another. The spot looks great. After only 3 minutes my least experienced teammate hooks up with a giant 14" crappie. We land it and now I am over the moon. Knowing we had almost no chance to catch a walleye, I decided we would have a better change to increase our score by catching bigger pike or smallie. We move again. I find another spot that looks promising. I tell the inexperienced fisherman to use a tube jig to catch a smallie. After I teach him how to bounce it off the bottom he gives it a try and immediately hooks up with a big fish. I am expecting a smallmouth for sure but I hope it is at least 18" to beat that of the other team. Instead of a smallmouth my inexperieced teammate has hooked into a 21" walleye. Are you kidding me? We land it and I am freaking out. Too funny. We had caught all five species and had 30 minutes to spare. As the other team approached the dock I saw that they had one 17" walleye. I asked if they caught a crappie or a largemouth and they said no. I knew it was all over but they thought they had won. I pretetnded that we didn't catch anything. It wasn't until I showed them the stringer and the pics that they realized they had been owned that day. Woohoo!!! It was great to beat my old high school fishing partner on his lake (which I have never fished before) using a boat without a fishfinder or depthfinder. When I showed him the stringer he actually went down on all fours while shaking his head (true story, I even think I saw tears). We are very competitive. My team won the tourney 80 points to 50 points. Too much fun. I think I am banned from the lake for yelling though. Check out some of our fish. These are only from my team. Cheers
  19. 5/0 texas rig If you wacky rig I would go with something much smaller. Maybe a size 1.
  20. That happens to mine. Take the cover off the motor and find the relay. It is a little square box attached to the circuit board. pus down on it lightly and then try to make the prop spin. Worth a try anyway.
  21. have to learn how to add more than one pic at a time. I guess they are too many k.
  22. Weather was bad to begin with but got nicer. The bass were on and where they were supposed to be. They were all feeding pretty hard with loads of semi-digested crayfish flying all over the place. I lost 3 bass that weighed over 4 pounds each. One broke the line and the other 2 spat it on a jump. I did manage to land a 3 pounder, several 2 pounders and countless 14 inchers. Drop shotting worked best by far. Probably caught 25 bass and lost almost as many. Need sharper hooks.
