  1. Awesome.... that last one looks like a tuna Burt
  2. Water is at its highest density at approx. 4C. So typically if the lake stratifies, water at the bottom will be 4C (even in the summer). In the winter the highest density water will settle to the depths as there is no mixing from wave action or turn over etc. Of course there may be problems with dissolved oxygen at these depths later in the season so this may make them uninhabitable for fish. Burt
  3. Hey if they can't keep them alive in the big lake then how are you going to keep them alive in the bucket on the way to pike fishing lol???? Hot dog on a quick strike rig...... Burt
  4. No fish for us today, ice was 10" anyway. Be careful at the far east side of the marina as there is some pull away of ice from the wall. I went through on the way out in about 7 foot of water, wet up to my waist. We put a post in it to mark it. Nice to meet Fish Farmer as we were leaving, he went through the ice in the same area. Burt
  5. Can anyone that has been out on 50 Point marina comment on the present ice conditions? May try it out this weekend. Thanks, Burt:)
  6. I use 3 to 4lb ice mono for all my panfishing with no leader. Don't find the need for a fluoro leader when using that light a line. Burt
  7. I did not realize they made tents that were that "air tight" so to say. I guess for winter camping you want to keep all the heat in as possible. My comments were from all the tents that I have owned over the years..... camping in late October you would have to wear a toque to keep the head warm as wind was actively blowing through the tent all night. Burt
  8. Talk in this thread about oxygen (O2), carbon dioxide (CO2), and carbon monoxide (CO)...... Buddy heaters have a low oxygen (O2) shut off, so if they will not consume all the oxygen in an enclosed space. Buddy heaters also have an instant shut off if the unit is tilted (good to have in a tent!). Any tent that I have ever camped in has been mostly made of mesh with a nylon fly to keep the weather off, but plenty of ventilation. That said if your tent is like this, there is little to no chance of getting carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Realize also that any heater using propane for fuel (or any organic fuel) will produce LOTS of water while burning and created moisture problems in your tent. I would be more worried about melting my sleeping bag or soaking everything rather than the carbon monoxide (CO) risk in a ventilated tent. Burt
  9. I agree with dwc67, the tip is like a spring tip (similar to some of the Meatstick rods) and with really good backbone for the hookset. Burt
  10. Only problem is as the hooks were rusty to begin with all the plating / bronzing was already gone, so even though they are clean now, they will rust very quickly! Don't get them damp again! Burt
  11. Never rented a hut there but here is a map with all of the operators on it: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?vpsrc=6&ctz=300&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=208211196330620509839.0004b216b021cc0b9a494&t=m&ll=44.451428,-79.372101&spn=0.58819,0.753937&z=10&source=embed Burt
  12. Shappell Jet Sled 1 is about the same size at 54" X 25" X 10" and is regular price at BassPro for around $37 if I remember correctly, bought one earlier in the season. Has a more gradual taper so it may be easier to put as well. Burt
  13. Actually those Abu Garcia Veritas combos are very good quality for what you get. The reels are MUCH better quality than the reels on the St. Croix combos. Guides with actual inserts (aluminum oxide or similar) rather than the crap stainless steel inserts on many others. Yes they are white but its only the blank.... the handles are black.... Burt
  14. We didn't get it too bad in Dundas, but I had one branch of my cedar in the back break from the weight, then I went into action. Got the grill going to melt some of the ice off the other branches hanging low... worked well! Burt
  15. Must be a good population of crappie on that pond, how much pressure does it get? I might have to head up with my kid. Any pike in there? Strictly catch and release for us though as nobody else in the house eats fish but me Burt
  16. I just called Mustang and asked about the suit lifetimes as I have an older Integrity jacket and didn't know how old it was. They said the rule is 8-10 years from date of manufacture. The jacket I have is from 2001........ I don't have a warm pool to test it in now either... Burt
  17. You don't need the iceducer. I used a heavy piece of copper wire tightly twisted to the transducer mounting hole. Semi-tight cable ties hold the pipe insulation so that you can still move it up and down. This way you can easily adjust the angle the transducer sits and keep it flat to the water. Burt
  18. I have the original pop out hut, the Eastman IceCube. I think I got it in 2007 or thereabouts. One pole has been repaired but I have never waterproofed it nor felt the need to. In use you will notice especially on colder days that you will build up a lot of condensation on the inner walls and roof so I don't see any point in spraying the seams. Doesn't drip though, just runs down the sides. Burt
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIs00QjiJZQ Pretty cool ice fishing video lol... Burt
  20. Well done! Some great fish there and awesome editing. Burt
  21. I used that link and haven't had any problems...... did you click on any pop ups that came up during the fight? What anti-virus are you using? Burt
  22. A guy was driving around the back roads of Virginia when he saw a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: "Talking Dog for Sale ". He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard. The guy goes into the back yard and sees a nice looking Beagle sitting there. 'Do You talk?' he asks. 'Yep' the Beagle replies. After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says 'So, what's your story?' The Beagle looks up and says, 'Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA and they had me sworn into the toughest branch of the armed services...the United States Marines. You know one of their nicknames is 'The Devil Dogs.' 'In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders; because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running, but the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger. So, I decided to settle down'. 'I retired from the Corps (eight dog years is 56 Corps years) and signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired.' The guy is totally amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog. 'Ten dollars,' the guy says. 'Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?' 'Because he's such a liar... He never did any of that crap. .' Burt
  23. Hope he unplugged the DVR... that would really f it up.....
  24. I had read that the Clam's weren't that easy to put due to the design of the sled, many say that they plow the snow (someone already suggested a "Smitty Sled"). Do you have a truck or van to put it in? I needed one to fit in the trunk/back seat of my Chevy Cruze so I picked up a Eskimo Quick Flip 1 at LeBaron last week (no tax sale!). Looks to be built pretty well..... I like the method of securing the poles - they are not screwed to plate on only one side like the Clam's - they fit between two plates of steel and are bolted through. At about 45lbs its fairly light and the sled has a nice ramp to it so it should pull ok I think. Most important, it fits in the car (Clam Kenai would not). I did a bit of research on the one man flips, I travel to the US frequently thus the US stores: Burt
  25. Some of the Sail's also have reconditioned Rapala's at what I remember to be $200, might be the smaller engine model though. My buddy bought one last year and the first day the throttle trigger broke on it (crap plastic) but other than that it worked ok for the season. Burt
