I used a couple chunks of cherry..... You really don't taste the elements of the brine separately, it just had a really good flavour, lightly smoked, but VERY juicy... Burt

She's done! Burt

While the wife does one in the oven (can't beat that traditional stuffing and gravy!!) I am doing one on the smoker. Preparation....the brine.... turkey sits in this for 12 hours.... consists of apple juice, brown sugar, kosher salt, crushed garlic, sliced ginger, cloves, bay leaves, quartered and squeezed oranges.... The turkey is on.... Thar she be chuggin' away..... I will keep the BBQ porn going as the cook progresses.... Burt

That "waffle knit" long underwear is crap (cotton based)..... take a look at the polypro or polyester based undies... these wick moisture away from the body and do not adsorb like cotton.... I have seen the full body at TSC (as others have replied) under the make of Misty Mountain. Burt

This may be a "vagina dentata"...... stay away from that one lol...... Burt

I could swear that I've met the first guy (Mike) in Alliston..... anyone know the actual origin of this video, where it was filmed? Burt -
This is what I think as well.... seems low to me. I think in the $80-90K range is more like it for a CO. Police make decent money, and a CO career is most definitally just as demanding.... if not more so - erratic hours, lots of solo work, harsh conditions etc etc.... Burt

I would think they are around, but more so in the remote areas, you would think there would be way more sightings if they were around higher populated areas. That being said a couple of years ago while walking in the Dundas Conservation Area with my kids, we found the rear leg and part of the hind quarter of a deer about 15 feet up in a tree. Wonder how that got there???? Burt

Right now I have Sufix Pro Mix on my JW Young, and Gamma Copolymer on the Stanton. The Sufix I like, but the Gamma seems to twist up more and wrap around the rod tip. Historically I used Ande for everything, but it is getting more difficult to find... Burt

I am looking for a jacket to wear fishing. A light insulation would be good, not heavy, as I prefer to layer up underneath. Water repellentcy would be beneficial, but I have rain gear for really rainy days. It will be used when bush bashing and wading in the fall/winter. Number of pockets is not really important as I wear a hip pack and usually carry a backpack as well. What have you found to be good??? Burt

Add some cleats. You can buy them especially for wading shoes or you can just buy 1/2" (measure sole thickness first!!) sheet metal screws as well. Burt -
I haven't until this year. I had always had some sporatic luck with them but this fall they seem to like them more. The way I beat my rod (pun intended ) there is no way I am going to run a stick that goes for a few hundred bucks..... the Purist only cost me $100 shipped anyway.... I try my best lol.... Burt

It is a hair tie (I have not tried Wallacio's method of wrapping the line around the reel yet).... Burt

I couldn't get out this weekend so I decided to take the day off and headed out this morning for a few hours, found myself all alone (not that its a bad thing!). Got into 5 (actually 4, one was so hungry I caught him twice lol)..... A nice lady.... She liked the pink worm.... Then this gent.... And again, must have been hungry.... Caught these two rockets on the way out.... they were fresh and fought like crazy... All in all, a good day out... Burt

Car Wreck - anyone have any dealings with CarStar?
Burtess replied to wask's topic in General Discussion
Do you have a dealer nearby that has an autobody shop? That is an option. I have had my cars repaired by both a GM and a Ford dealership and they were good. And it is irrelevant that a shop is on the insurance companies "preferred" list, you have the right to take it where ever you want, it is their option to send an adjuster to the shop to look at it. The shop will handle it from there.... Burt -
Clear water steelhead, had to work for these!!!

Wallacio, I will give your method a try next time I'm out, maybe I can get rid of the elastic lol.... Are those fish clipped, because these were all unclipped and I presume wild? Also, smolts this year are bigger than usual, a lot in the 10-12" range..... The fish that I kept, on cleaning and examination of stomach contents, the stomach was full of the moss that grows on the rocks, with some scud like insects as well. I imagine that they are feeding on the insects and ingest a lot of moss incidentally? Burt -
Have a problem this year, can't land any big ones Had a beast on today, but broke the leader..... Water was ultra clear (as it is in most smaller flows).... Small roe bags and pink worms produced these: That last one I had to keep (hate doing that...), she sucked the pink worm into its gill rakers and bled profusely when I landed her. I was surprised to find some loose roe in her, not much as she was only a 21" fish..... Burt

I was going to say the same thing, but was worried about getting flak for it. Getting my nuts blown off and waiting a couple hours to croak sucks IMO.... Burt
