Mono or fluoro leader when using braid - pier salmon casting
Burtess replied to Burtess's topic in General Discussion
OK cool... no leader needed! I am using a 10' Shimano Convergence with a 3500 size Daiwa.... yes I have my own net with custom extension handle (usually I end up netting everyones fish)... Is a 125M spool of 20lb PowerPro enough to fill that reel or I think I need to leave some mono on their as filler? Burt -
Hi All, I know some guys get skien from the cleaning stations at some of the harbours.... anyone tell me where if there is one around Bronte or Oakville? Thanks, Burt

Awesome!!! You must be my long lost brother or something.... I do it just about the same way (except I've got a WSM). Love it with the slaw on top too! I am even leaner on the sauce though, just a touch of some HOT Carolina red... Burt

Of course you're not using a WSM, but you will find a lot of good info on the Virtual Weber Bullet site. Burt

I attached a chart from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Saltwater_freezing_point.jpg Your freezer must be able to attain a lower temperature than the freezing point of the salt solution, or it will not freeze, it will just get cold but stay liquid. Whatever the freezing/melting point of the solution is the important as this is where you get your steady temperature plateau, and where the liquid/solid mixture will maintain a temperature until all solid is melted. This makes sense as all three cubes started at the same temperature, but they progressed through their melting profiles in different ways. The first to hit and maintain a lower than 0 temp was the salt water, the second the sugar water, and the third the fresh water. But they all melted at different temperatures, the salt water much colder than the fresh. Normally any contaminant added to a "pure" substance will alter the freezing/melting temperature. This is why I stated I use a mix of salt water bottles and fresh water bottles in my cooler. The salt water bottles will be melting away (at somewhere below 0C) while the fresh water bottles are still rock solid. Once the salt water has fully melted, the temperature of the cooler will rise to around 0C and the next melting plateau will begin when the fresh water melts. Once this is done, the temp will climb to ambient temps. Kickingfrog had it, this is the key... Burt

Lol.... yes they are... all the "ice" bottle are without labels but labels do fall off the good bottles in the cooler quite often so it would be easy to mix them up. Burt

Depending on salt concentration, it lowers the freezing/melting point of water to a maximum of around -21-22C (this is with a "saturated" solution, in which no more salt can dissolve in water). Salt doesn't slow the melting, it melts at a lower temperature. A frozen water bottle will maintain 0C until all the ice is melted. A frozen bottle of salt water will maintain a temp. of much less than 0C until it is melted. I like to mix regular ice with "salt" ice in the cooler, so you have two cooling plateaus, sometimes the beer can have ice crystals in it. Burt

Whatever bottles you choose to use, try adding 150-200g/L (5 to 6 tablespoons per litre) salt to the water. This should freeze totally in a deep freezer and melt at a temp of -10 to -15C, it will keep your cooler much cooler! Burt

"The charge against Sriranganathan Ampalam, 58, was for not fencing off the pond as required by city bylaw, police said." http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/news/local/article/211046--toddler-rushed-to-hospital-after-possible-drowning They had the city workers fence it off later that day. And to the parents that never leave their kids out of their sight.... just wait, it will happen to you too, it just hasn't yet, and it will make you frantic when they disappear. (and yes, I have 3).... Burt

The pond was not fenced.... hence the charges. There most probably is a bylaw for this.... hence the charges. If it were fenced, there would be no charges (and no death for that matter). Makes sense to me. Burt

You have to be kidding, thats crazy!! My wife just about puked when she pulled one off my groin about half an hour ago. Picked it up at the car dealership! Looks to be a deer tick. Now this is my first time with a deer tick, Ministry of Health website says they take the tick and test it for lyme disease? I put it live in a plastic bottle. Burt

Ant B Gone is like crack for carpenter ants. I had a bad infestation earlier this spring in the kitchen also. Tried ant traps, nothing..... Tried Raid liquid ant bait, wouldn't touch it..... But this Ant B Gone worked like a charm. Put it out on the counters in beer bottle caps and those ants ate at it like pigs at a trough. The key is to let them eat and go back to the nest and feed the others. After 3 days they were all gone, haven't seen them since. Burt

Looking for Krocodile, chartreuse on chartreuse with silver tape!!!!
Burtess replied to Burtess's topic in General Discussion
OK.... I'll go as high as $15.... I did pick up a Mepps Little Wolf on my search. It is a shorter wide spoon with an interesting bend to it. Going to give it a shot. You know what it is like when you build up confidence in a certain lure or technique.... I have no problem trying "new" things but it is always nice to have the old sure thing in the back pocket! Don't worry, the spoon still exists... just this colour pattern is possibly gone. Burt -
I am starting to freak out here...... I caught my first brown of the year on Tuesday morning and then lost one of my staple lures... I only have one left!!! I cannot find this colour combo anywhere, have been to Bass Pro, Crappy Tire, Walmart, doesn't appear to be in LeBaron cataloge (although I have not checked the store yet). It is not on the Luhr Jensen website either.... maybe an old discontinued pattern? Anyone seen this one around?? Luhr Jensen Krocodile 2 5/8" and 1/2 oz. Chartreuse on both sides with silver tape: I am scared that I will not be able to catch any more pier browns.... Burt
