  1. I know that Tackle Tour always felt the biggest advantage to DC reels was that you got max distance as well as accuracy without extreme casting effort. This would probably save the occasional cast off. Those DC Curado's will be $349 in canada I'm told. Cheaper but not cheap by any means. SAW A NEW CANADIAN COMPANY DOING A HIGH END CRANK, STICK, JIG AND DROP SHOT MINNOW AT ICAST . https://www.nishinelureworks.com/collections/nishine-lure-works-jerkbait/products/jerkbait-erie-115md-alewife-chrome That stickbait looks like a fancy Ripplin' Redfin which is not a bad thing. The crank looks nice too. If I see them out and about I would buy one.
  2. I fished the Grand on Saturday and did well on smallmouth. Lots of places to toon on the Grand. It is a great fishery but you have to be aware of the flow from rain and that bottom weed can be a miserable pestilence when it's about. On Saturday I had no issues with green stringy weeds and at some points the wind was so strong that it was blowing me upstream which makes for a less strenuous paddle back to the car
  3. Fish and Save is great especially when they have a sale but watch out for the shipping. The amount of shipping can often be mitigated by looking at you products and eliminating heavy or bulky items form your cart. Ditch the coil of lead, and order more flys or cranks as they weigh less. By the way sometimes that site sells a dozen flys for $2.00 to $3.00 when they have a flyboy sale.
  4. They lifted the Hobie drive almost unchanged since patent protection is done. Overall it's probably a much cheaper option since Pelican is made here and Hobie is made stateside. The price of the Hobie's has reached ridiculous levels. The Hobies are also heavy making it a pain to hoist them up on to your cartop. This one is 85lbs so it's reletively easy to get them up. The only problem I see is that they look cheap and that somtimes indicates that they are poorly made. I expect to see them at Sail soon. I read it's $1495 USD which is cheap compared to the Hobie and other like driven kayaks. It will be interesting to know if they copied the old Mirage Drive with bushings or the new Mirage drive that uses berrings
  5. If you live in southern Ontario there's always Angling Outfitters in Woodstock. Depending on what you want he has an incredible diversity of lures for everything that swims (especially Musky stuff) and he also has over $200k worth of closeout stuff he bought in the US at cents on the dollar. Lots of his stuff is expensive but the closout stuff in incredibly cheap ( if it's what you need) and it's a destination well worth visiting if you are down that way. The owner, Jocylyne, is incredibly knowledgable about electonics if you need help there as well.
  6. Going to a lawyer over small amounts like this is usually counterproductive as the lawyer will eat up all of the money owed and judges /ajudicaters often take a dim view of showing up in small claims with a lawyer. I suggest a paralegal with experience in automotive. More cost effective. Still no results/response from OMVIC?This seems like a gross infraction of automotive consumer law to me and dealing with car dealers who cross the line is their mandate.
  7. Watch your prop. I would say that a motor in the Grand much above Dunnville can be expensive (repairs). Try a canoe or kayak that way it will be fun without any damage.
  8. That's a great spot for fishing but a bad spot for confrontation. With shore anglers now blocked from fishing the pier and marina it will resolve the issues that used to happen between shore anglers and boat anglers at Dalousie. They can block shore anglers because tresspassing is a local juristiction, fishing in a boat, on the water, on navigable waters is a provincial juristiction and therefore boat anglers are well within their rights to fish in and around Dalousie while shore anglers can and probably will be charged with fishing while trespassing which I believe is a $500+ fine. I have fished there myself in the past and truthfully the shore anglers are generally a motley clique of fellows who carry on in selfish and destructive ways to the area and to fishing in general. Good riddence if the land based guys are blocked from the area.
  9. Might change your mind about largies if you caught a 14-15lb one in clear weed free water. In this video it was legitimaly cold but not to the extent that it was impossible to fish. That said when it gets that cold around here I spend my time on steelheads or stay home. I tried a small Yum multi rig and got nothing on it, then sold it on. i have been told these rigs work best in cold, for Bass, water. By the time bass season opens in southern Ontario I think the water is too warm to see great success with an A- rig and that's probably why you don't see them used much around here. I have toyed with the idea of trying them in modified form for trout/salmon. Both coldwater species will definitly take a plastic swimbait so 3 or 4 of them could be attractive. I know that west coast trollers use a multi attractor called a School of Fish trailing a hoochie or flash fly with great success
  10. Love the opening with the 2 Fer. I once got a 2 fer with different species ie. smallmouth and a Drum and on a crank not an A rig.
  11. Lake Chicamoga is in Tennassee, the strain of bass is Florida/Northern hybrid.and it was cold and wet in the film. His nose was runny and red and it was weather I would not go bass fishing in.
  12. New show on WFN that featured a pro named Ott DeFoe fishing in the winter time with an A-Rig. Great shots of BIG, no HUGE Largemouth Bass that he bags in the dead of winter on Lake Chicamoga. Florida strain/Northern Strain hybrids that don't mind the cold but still get huge. There was a little bit of schilling for Bass Pro products but he also demonstrated an excellent method of running the plastic baits on a multi rig like the A-rig so as to optimize the bait as well as avoiding tangles which would be well worth learning if you run those things. He even managed 2 bass on one rig at the same time.
  13. Or White Perch. The look similar to a Tilapia
  14. Here in Oakville the bass are still up in the rivers finishing off the spawn I went out on Monday and there were no bass being caught downstream in the harbour and no pike either. There was a small catfish for me in the harbour as well as a steelhead just offshore. I kept the steelhead for a buddy and when I cleaned it I was suprised to find a fistfull of loose eggs still in her. The Bass opener often means going into streams well upstream here in Oakville. The big bass are staying in the river for a bit to recover from the spawn and to feed on whatever is available in the stream I assume. Usually there are some honking big females stitting in the same spots as steelhead would be hiding earlier in the year. I believe Aaron used to post bass pics here from local streams during opening week
  15. It's interesting that you guys appear to be in the ascendance. Today the UN's mental health unit has described a new "mental illness". It is for gamers that can't stop playing video games. So now pastey nerds can get meds for uncontrolable gameplayitis as opposed to say, the parents pulling the plug on the nitwits computer
  16. My sister lives on Midland Bay. When I'm there I fish the shoreline from my Hobie Floatcat rowboat. Consistently I look for onshore winds that stir up the shore and hit that shoreline with spinnerbaits, cranks and swimbaits. When it's calm I see other anglers fish/flip weedlines and holes in the weeds out further from shore from power boats using electronics I'm sure. They are locals and they are there consistently so I'm sure they are getting fish. I get big Smallmouth and medium sized pike when I go out. Remember Midland Bay is rough, from wind but also from large boat traffic. On Thursday a woman drowned right in front of my sisters house when she got flipped out/off of her kayak. Her dog swam to shore but she washed up hours later. The bay gets REALLY rough so be carefull.
  17. Just to clarify my point about Nixon. The methadone clinics in DC were not intended to benefit addicts it was to relieve the pressure of rampant drug related crime against respectable DC residents which included congress. It was a short lived experiment that worked and then was discarded. Bordains issue was not pot, it was booze, pills, coke, AND FOOD. This by his own addmission by the way. The man was a wasted mess that filled his body with toxins (including from the excesses in food consumption itself ) and tried to counter it with pharmacy. As usual it did not work out. It did provide the viewing public with a flawed but entertaining character who used humor, black humour ultimately, to build an audience. In the end it was his character flaws led him to end his own life. That rollercoaster is what made Bordain a celebrity and we got to view it as a form of entertainment. It's a tradeoff that has been the source of art and literature since civilization began. As I said I loved the show but the suicide was the part that made him a jerk and it was definitly not a suprise, it was inevitable and I for one am not overly broken up over it. People today have great faith in media driven expertise which parades out experts in science like it parades out experts in economics, politics and statistics. The problem is that these experts have lots of theories that are little more that opinions that dovetail into the preconcieved notions of what that media outlet and it's viewership are comfortable with. In the field of mental illness this has led to a conflation, in mainstream media, that what used to be considered character flaws are now excused as mental illness. That's how you get 1 in 3 as certified crazy rather than lots of people with significant character flaws that should be addressed with personal dicipline not pharmacy from the medical establishment and fawning empathy from the public. .
  18. I would go one better and make it a live action cartoon, that's "based on real events" staring this guy http://www.giveitlove.com/these-20-cat-shaming-moments-will-crack-you-up/?utm_source=ya&utm_campaign=367799846-9700056872-ya&utm_medium=HOMEPAGE_CA-ya&utm_content=549f79-34284176975-ya&utm_term=c-3.png-n-ya&chrome=1 and I'll send him to your place and you can feed him. Afterwards you can read your script through with him and get "input". I strongly recomend you feed him first.
  19. Well here's some more for you guys to chew on. CNN, the leftist bastion of rectitude and flakey spin on just about everything hired a man that told everybody that would listen he was a pathetic soak, druggie, and womanizer sent him out on a job that entailed loads of drinking, late nights, long trips away from his family and even, on the Uraguay show, doing dope on tv ( Uraguay has legal weed, BUT only for Uraguaians not tourists) . He then started tattooing himself after meeting/marrying the cage fighter he susiquently ditched for an "actress" but leaving an 11 year old behind. It appears nobody at CNN noticed. Now it's boo-hoo, this is mysterious, how could it go so wrong? The writing was on the wall ...er arms, back, neck etc and further evidence was in the expense account. Everyone is responsible for him/herself and I think that is only right BUT selective tunnelvision is what this case is about and you guys have it...bad. The idea that one in 3 humans is mentaly ill is complete hogwash, as is the clain that 10% of all males are homosexuals and that alchoholism is a disease. Like drugs it is an addiction that is fueled by deliberate misbehaviour and recognizing that is the key to actually conquering the demon rum, coke, oxy etc. Appologists think that you can coddle your way out of problems but I have yet to see that happen anywhere in the world. Back in the late 70's Tricky Dick Nixon addressed the unbelievable Washington DC crime rate of the time with methadone clinics and it worked. He made the move not for the addicts but for the victims, DC citizens that faced a daily barrage of begging, purse snatching, muggings and breakins. Methadone works for some addicts in that they can function and the free drugs severely reduce the need to turn to crime to finance their addiction. They are still a mess however. At some point the rights of normal people should prevail over the rights of addicts to carry on as they please and when they die prematurly IT IS THEIR OWN FAULT. Sober respectable people have rights which include the right to be protected from criminals as well as the right to be free of the obligation to take care of self destructive idiots that continue to do activities that are obviously dangerous even life threatening. Bottom line I liked the guy and the show but he was a jerk for killing himself and there is no excuse that is acceptable other than it is your right to live your life as you see fit . To CNN I say you are the home of distorted leftist spin as much as Fox is the home of rightwing distorted spin. But next time you want a foreighn correspondent to fill out your programing take a few moments to think over what you are asking them to do and contemplate whether the job might kill them. So.... carry on festooning yourself with ugly cartoons that are permanent and possibly toxic, keep drinking/drugging to oblivion it seems a significant number of people are with you.
  20. I fish the impoundments around Oakville/Hamilton and i to see really diminished weed growth this year. Because of this my go to stuff (spinnerbaits, sub surface cranks and swimbaits )were not working very well. However, again due to the almost not existant weed growth, I was able to use suare bill cranks and jerkbaits with a little success but still not up to snuff. I then tied on a rattletrap type lure and absolutely slayed them. I cast it out, ran a fast retrieve with some jigging motion as part of the retrieve and that was what they wanted. Ended up with 76 Pike and a few bass. I used a Viper Risebacker which are not sold here but are great coming through grass/light weed due to the very thin top of the lure. A similar profile in a lure you can get here is a Rapala Rippin Rap. Hopefully we will get some weed clumps coming in and more traditional methods will work (not that using a rattler is bad but they will eventually be bitten off due to their size and Risebackers are expensive and not made anymore).
  21. Too much travel, alcohol, drugs, romantic entanglements, tatoos and trying to keep straight with leftist ideals as represented by CNN. It all looked rosey from afar but too much of a good thing combined with the stress of delivering a quality TV show did him in. It is a shame because I really admired his show/ lifestyle but I have little sympathy to a rich successful guy abandoning an 11 year old girl via suicide. Time to remind men that part of being manley is to take knocks without capitulation as people are depending on you
  22. SOLd Thanks Rob
  23. Great post. Inconu are the largest member of the Whitefish clan. I had always heard they are rare and hard to catch. WRONG, lol.
  24. Guys make tens of thousands of dollars down east and in Maine harvesting the small baby eel before they go to sea and they then sell the babies to the Japanese who raise them to a viable commecial size to then be sold to Japanese foodies as a delicacy. Obviously the market has been ruined for thhem here since we fished them out.
  25. Marmot is real climbing gear and is excellent. That seems like a great price for quality.
