Hello everybody here at OFC. I hope everybody has been enjoying their selves this summer, getting out on the lake fishing. The last 4 nites I spent in a small 2 bedroom cottage rental on the lake out in Eastern Ontario. The weather was cool but the fish were around the first 3 days of the trip. Finding a couple over 4lbs puts a cap on a unreal summer of bassin. Now on with some pictures. We got there late Friday night. I was working the outside edge right at the beginning of one of the connection channels, prior to the upcoming tree this 4-1/4lb Largemouth came out and smashed the 3.5"TRJ. Only rigged on 1/2oz this time. Needed a slower fall. After 1 full hour pitching the first "tap" on the line what a fight I went back for a bite to eat after this as I got on the water at 2pm so it was 4pm I ate some food then got out around 5pm once more, took my mom with me this time. My brother got a few small bass and of course caught the first of the trip haha. First year she's bought a fishing license. She gets a nice largemouth on the wacky worm was excited as hell At this point I again was pitching the deeper lilly pads for about a hour at this point. I take another pitch and the this big fat largemouth came out at my bait, set the hook and in it was coming. 4.96lbs, hair under the nickel mark. The next morning I went to a bay and started covering water with a popper working it a mile out over productive areas. Temps were at around 63-68 degrees through the 4 days. Caught a few smaller bass then all of a sudden a nice one hit, shes quick with photos. I asked her to get the net but right as she takes the pic she got a bite on her worm again Weighed at 4lbs 9oz so I was excited, I netted my own fish then netted hers as well Her's was around 3lbs I figured. Only 2 fish of the morning Went out cruising some new ground and found a couple smaller bass, here is one of the chunky fish. Slop just wasn't holding the bigger bass, it was a pad thing similar to last September. I just found special areas this past June and August. 3 Bass but all round 2lbs Tried mr frog lot's but no largies came up. Tried the lower end of a channel way and was working a rock wall with fallen trees every 50ft or so, this bass was 10ft down on a strip of weeds in between a bait of branches. Unreal fight very long fish. Weighed just over 4 1/2lbs 2nd photo, all the bass were healthy this year very fat not skinny like in years before on these waters Can't have too many rods Ok 3 of those are not mine On with the next morning. It was 6:15 just like the last but this time it was windy, not very wavy with maybe a 1ft chop going across the lake but the wind was at least 30-40k I put my popper down and grabbed the Spinnerbait went to the first point I knew. In the past I've lost a big smallmouth or two on tube jigs. Right away I had maybe 4 or 5 casts in and this 3lb range Smallie smashed the bait boatside, there always a treat when I can find them, such hard fighting fish. Ran around for awhile after that but couldn't get any bass going just Pike. Here is a few pics from that cold start Drivin to the next spot Found more small bass later that afternoon in the 2lb and under range after the storm cleared. Pitched cover for a little over a hour with no luck, looked at the vision 110 jerkbait and tried the outside edge of a weedline and got a few this size Working the bait over 16-22FOW seen a few small Pike and lost 2 baits but here was another fighter The next day it was foggy out could see 20ft either side of the boat, went straight across the lake and threw the swimbait through the pads for a half hour only had 2hrs to fish before we had to pack up for the road home. Mid 3lb largemouth. Hard fight but it capped of a great summer. And the Largemouth Bass Might get out again for a weekend next month for some fishing with my uncle. Tightlines and thanks for looking MTBF

What happened to Shimano's customer service :(
MCTFisher9120 replied to buckhorn250's topic in General Discussion
I should hold back a little here as Shimano takes care of more customers rods and reels than anybody else, but you have made some good points. I see dozens of rods yearly turn around quickly and not very quickly and a lot of hit has to do with new lineup's of rods and backordered products. The US gets many rods before us north of the border and a backordered replacement is quite common. Ugly Stick travel rods were backordered for 4 months from Pure Fishing so customers waited months for those...just a example. When I send out rods Shimano gets them within 3 days and what is in stock and around them in Peterborough get's sent right away. If they told you the rod would be back late August then you should of got it then or at thee worst early September. What model did you break? I've seen some Worm & Jig replacements come back as well as several in the "Spinnerbait" lineup in under 4 weeks time. I love Shimano still because they always seem to offer a no charge warranty and they do a immense about of contributions in our fishing industry. Hope you see your new rod soon. I'm still waiting 2 month's for my uncles Pflueger Spinning reel, and on week 13 on a friends Fenwick so your not the only one. Chris Giles is a pleasure to deal with at Shimano in Peterborough (Warranty/Repair) if you can find his contact speak with him over the phone. Timing is not Shimano's fault or yours...you could of broke it earlier in the year and had it by now...It's just bad timing man I called and knew ahed my 6'10MH Cumara Spinnerbait rod was backordered after it broke so I ordered a Looimis so I wouldn't miss out (guide rapped too tight instant snap opening week just like you). Regardless don't hate too much, Shimano is very good but I wish they stocked more rods for warranty. -
Hey now, Lew your outboard is 4x the value of all my gear...so for now were even You require a giant boat I require a tiny boat full of crap haha

As a side note to the tent talk earlier this summer my Northern Canyon 6 (10x10) has held up quite nice. On 2, 8 night trips the tent saw a total of just 4 days rain. (2 on either trip) The tent was stock on the first trip so did not spray it. This Eureka beads water like I have never seen growing up using various CDN Tire brand tents. I bought some Nik Wax waterproofing spray for nylon tents, rain gear etc...it's like a windex bottle and worked really good. One thing I noticed was the 4 main poles on my tent are Aluminum with a cable rather than Fibreglass poles with rope. I really believe this makes the tent solid, in wind gusts it hardly moved. The "fly" uses traditional Fibreglass/rope poles as I assume to keep the weight down on the top of the tent. Anyway 5/5 on my first 15 days sleeping in it. No leaks even near the zipper corner. The high ceiling is a +

We still have H2O glasses "some" we are clearing out. For your price range the Numa's would be a good bet. Excellent warranty and quality made.

Very nice largies and smallies. Camera work is slick too. Thanks for sharing

Could of not said it better myself, sums it all up perfect...hope this all makes some real sense now to some fokes...On a side note lets see Scugog closed off to Ice Fishing for a few years...one thing is for sure that fishery had headed down hill one little white bucket at a time

Because older generations have abused a species yet again. Native species deserve to be here. It's the Ministry of Natural Resources job to do there best to keep our lakes, fish, animals well here for us to target, catch or release, hunt and well enjoy. I see no problem in seeing species come back to "normal" levels....money spent on trucks, gas, parties, or pretty signs, is a waste...creating new life for a particular fish and well years of enjoyment for future anglers is great. Maybe our kids will be able to enjoy a productive Sturgeon fishery one day in the mix of great bass, pike, walleye and all the other game fish we have these days. Atlantic Salmon is another that yes people are catching on Lake Ontario. Something 10 years ago may of been impossible to see. Money is money and it's going to be spent. It's a thing with no meaning. Spend it make the world better. A fish is a fish, the more out there the better

Hello everybody, hope everyone here on OFC has been having a great summer. Got lot's of reading up to do myself. Last Saturday my Dad, Uncle and I took off to my favourite lakes for a week of camping and hardcore bass fishing. We had pretty good weather through the week and was the frog bite ever on. Back in June we crushed em and caught lot's of nice big largemouth but not so many numbers. Round 2 was awesome as we caught a few dozen nice largemouth with many in the 2lb class. Good fighting bass. One biggin showed herself later in the week and with a few over 3lbs I was more than happy. Dad and my uncle got into a few nice fish this trip, the learning curve is growing and they are starting to get the hang of it, as a past guide I have always has a passion to teach family and new anglers the basics and the ways around bass fishing. When you see them hammer some fish its a great feeling. Alright on with some pictures from out week on the lake. Froggin in the evening on the first day produced a couple chunky fish for us The new Bleedin Frog's from the shop, trying some new colours out Slop bed, one of many...this bed showed a lot of bass but not 1 over 3lbs, shallower mats didn't hold bigger bass we found yet again, lot's of fun tho!! Dad with the first of our trip Water levels went down a foot since June, our little hole off the camp...paradise in my eyes popped a few here this week. Nice morning largie on the sick stick The bassin machine Flippin, plastic Talk about a fight, nice northern from the slop, crushed the frog like a train haha Big largie on the 3.5" TRJ, love these things last trip last years trip they always work. Very versitile Froggie bass Smaller but fun, this was the "average" bass this week. Must be eating well all fish were big and fat. Every day, quarter to 5 in the morning. I'm running to the first spot Finally getting the hang of fishing big worms, 10" with sliding weight, found a few bass in the 18-22ft range this week. Water temps were between 68 and 76 on the hottest day. And another after a long morning Another quick largemouth at one of the holes Dad with a snot rocket Swimait in the deep, one of the biger ones this week, just over 4 Dad with a football of a largie, first cast one drink of coffee in him. Woke him up pretty quick haha One spot and over 7 fish in under a hour, love paddling into to untouched slop Another One for dad too, this was between 7 and 8am Largie punchin, trying the skirts on my favourite baits seems to work well Threw in I missed him, got dad to throw quick and bam perfect setup was stoked for him Nice bucket in the heavy cover flippin Another for dad Just under 4lbs on the popper, bad pic but it wasn't even 5am yet haha Another on the hinge worm Skinny pike, slammed the popper awesome fight Chunky largie for me Nice bass froggin 3-11, notice the background Next throw and wham, the lake gave me the piggy I was looking for. Always nice to see a bass over 4 Well thanks for having a look, back to work for a few weeks and come mid september well be in for round 3. Tightlines guys and gals! MTBF
