I think launching your boat and depending on the Ulterra trolling motor to bring your boat back to the dock is very amusing. Looks great on the video but one day something will go wrong and you will be swimming to get your boat back. LOL Hope its not cold. I launch solo all the time and ive never had a problem. Use a 20ft rope from the front side cleat. There is always something to tie to. If not, tie off to your trailer winch post.

I would still buy long shaft anyway, it will tilt up if you go shallow.

Are the tracks being installed to mount downriggers? If yes, think about mounting riggers in the boat, up on those narrow gunnels they get smashed against docks and walls when tying off your boat.

Putting my boat on a new trailer

Good advice, yours bunks should extend past the transom to avoid hull damage. More important for heavier boats but why take the chance -
musky swimming with head out of water
Mr Greedydrift replied to chessy's topic in General Discussion
Ive never seen a musky swimming with its head out of the water, but ive had one attack my trolling motor. The motor was running at low speed, scared the crap out of me. -
So what are you spraying on the bunks?

It seems the OPP are the only ones enforcing anything so I will launch where they arent around. I know that a ticket from them could be fought in court but I dont need that hassle. Regional police are not chasing boaters. Not that Ive heard of anyway.

My first Baitcaster ready for spooling!
Mr Greedydrift replied to siwash's topic in General Discussion
Baitcasters for me are a tricky thing. I like to cast baits far so I dial in the tension to do that. Then turn the boat into the wind to follow the weedline - backlash. Wind is a baitcasters enemy. This is where thumbing the spool as the line goes out is important. As for the right/left thing, here is my opinion- Spinning reel - left hand retrieve, float reel left hand, fly reel left hand, downrigging reel left hand, mooching reel left hand etc. Baitcaster - left hand retrieve. Why anyone would fumble around switching hands during a cast is something I will never understand. I once saw a buddy almost lose his musky rod when his reel backlashed while he was switching hands. I just think its a wasted movement. -
Sounds like leaving guts on land is illegal
-
"My statement" lol. My reading of the new rule is that it is illegal to release fish eggs into the water. Yes or no?
-
Still some confusion. No more chumming with roe, but when cleaning a fish if roe spills out thats chumming.
-
So if im cleaning a fish on the riverbank and some roe spills out am i breaking the law?

Where's the polar vortex when you need it

If the launches are not locked down -
I cant imagine fumbling with a remote while im casting and reeling while its windy. Ive learned to use a pedal while im fishing. I dont like the ipilot either, i need to control where im going.

Cant see the article. Too much Bull on that website.

I agree with this. And if/when things get back to normal, people will be selling the toys to return to spending on vacations and others things.

I run 30lb wire line. Old school I know. I don't lose many baits.
-
I think it depends on what kind of fishing that you do. I have a side console because I like to troll for salmon with downriggers and also muskie with rod holders. I like that I can see the rods while sitting at the console. It is possible to do those things with a tiller but I would not like to fish like that. If you do alot of casting then a tiller would have the advantage with all the deck space available. I also cast from my single console with no problems, but I have fished in a dual console with a full windshield and I didn't like the restricted space up front. For the electric trolling motors if you buy a boat with a front casting platform you will eventually need a bow mount. Keep the transom electric for something like backtrolling for walleye. It would be versatile to have electrics front and back. 👍

I hope it holds up for you. I've not had much luck with 5 min epoxy being underwater. Envirotex is the way to go for lure coating and repair.
-
Some 30lb stainless steel line from the hook eye to the split ring on the lip would fix that bait. Drill a hole thru the lip just behind the ring. You could epoxy the line underneath.

A similar thing happened at the Beaver rivermouth in Thornbury. Blocked parking and more trails for dog walking condo owners. That town used to profit from fishermen, now they are not welcome.

Nice float set up! How are you securing the float to the mainline? Slip float stop?
-
Nice!! Trolling or casting? I'm going to guess trolling but you never know.

Fly reel backing line on a float reel ?
Mr Greedydrift replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
Anything no stretch is better for backing. Mono if wound on tightly could bust the spokes in your reel from the pressure. Reels that don't have spokes would be ok? I don't know. -
Fly reel backing line on a float reel ?
Mr Greedydrift replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
Floating fly line works well. It keeps everything light by not absorbing water. Also used black coated dacron. I think it was heavy duty ice fishing line. It was perfect backing for the float reel.
