The number one big bass bait of all time is a flipping jig with trailer. Try a 1/2 oz flipping jig in brown or black and blue with a zoom chunk. Stick with it and be confident. I guarantee you will catch the big ones with it.

I guess you are correct. The US lakes do a ton of stocking and Ontario is strictly reliant on natural reproduction. Predation by Gobies probably does not help.
-
Very true however, many of the US lakes are stocked like crazy

MNRF should just open a catch and release season for bass from May long weekend to bass opener

Spent quite a bit of time on the water last week. Fish didn’t come easy. A couple of skunkings on walleye, a broken trolling motor, many km and plenty of hours on the water. Finally found some active fish. Got them on a variety of baits with the big swimbaits and soft plastic jerkbaits getting most of the fish. They did not want the jerk bait at all for some reason. The new Minn Kota maxxum performed flawlessly. I should have got one long ago. Love the responsiveness of the cable rive

I would love to have a go pro with the yolo stick. Looks like fun but I am useless when it comes to tech stuff. I would never be able to edit

New fishing licences rant(the day the music died)
msp replied to Acountdeleted's topic in General Discussion
3 months and still waiting. Im actually looking forward to being stopped by a CO this year ! -
I prefer braid to flouro. For baitcasters I recommend 30-50 pound with 80-100 pound leaders for pike and 12-20 pound leaders for bass. For spinning use 15-20 pound braid and 6-20 flouro leaders for a number of applications. could be dropshotting, walleye jigging, senkos ect.... Keep in mind that you do not always need a flouro leader.

I have always compared golf to fishing when my non fishing friends ask about fishin. "Can you go golfing with one club or fishing with one rod ? " Well yeah, but it is way better with a variety of clubs/ rods Every new golf course is like a new lake. You have to figure it out. Does weather play a factor in your golf game? of course it does, just like fishing. wind, sun , rain ect..... Do you do it because you enjoy being outside ? of course Does it usually last all day away from your wife?...... yep ! Do you need to be in great shape and in top physical form ?.........

New fishing licences rant(the day the music died)

I am very frustrated with the whole process that seems to change every year. This year I purchased my new license the first week of January. They gave me a printed piece of paper which I have misplaced already. I did take a picture of the temp license but what happens if my phone dies. They said 3 weeks I will receive my new license in the mail. It is now March 1st and still nothing. I have nothing to show the CO this spring. Don't really care tho. Its their problem now. Ministry of No Results. Don't even know why I buy a license anymore -
That is awesome ! congrats to the little guy
-
That is excellent ! I don't ice fish but can appreciate the great catch. well done!

15-20 pound Power pro on spinning reels. 30 pound power pro on baitcasters for moving baits like jerk baits, spinnerbaits ect.... 50 Power pro for flipping baits like worms, creatures, jigs or frogs. Cheap mono from Canadian Tire ( red wolf 10 pound ) for backing will last you a lifetime for 5 bucks. Power pro all the way !

My buddy bought the same model this fall for bottom bouncing on the Niagara. He absolutely loves it. I purchased a 9 ft 6 Fenwick in the same price range and found that the Raven was way better. I ended up returning the Fenwick. I used the Raven for a couple of drifts and thought it was a great rod for the price. From past experienced with Raven, they have an excellent warranty as well
-
I agree wit Dave Chong. Go with 50 pound braid and a flouro leader if you feel you need it. Your reel should handle 50

awesome boat ! great motor as well. I have had my 50 yammy 4 stroke for about ten years now. love it !
-
Excellent Bunk. The Yammy 4 strokes really are bulletproof. Never have I seen such a reliable motor. The pics of you and your daughter are priceless. The two of you will cherish those pictures for years. Great report and great fish !
