Lenny arrived on scene just in time for the arrest. Big Boss Hawg was taken into custody, charged and later released on bail See ya in court ya greasy bugger. I laughed so hard ! Wicked write up. very creative. I don't have any experience with Ding-a Lings, but boy that's the biggest Ding-a-Ling I have ever seen

Thanks for all the replies guys. I was very close to purchasing the 80 pound thrust Fortrex but couldn't come up with the 1600 $ plus tax. Not to mention a recessed pedal box and all the hassles of installation. I ended up with a brand new second hand 70 pound power drive v2. Comes with universal sonar and the newer foot pedal. Installation took me about 20 minutes as the bracket from the old one fit perfect All for 800 cash Case closed. Thanks again guys!

Anyone have experience with the Power Drive V 2? Specifically the pedal? I'm a little bit sceptical ....... Wondering if it is just as crappy as the old power drive pedal Might go with a 70 pound thrust PD v2

One thing I forgot to mention is that I am on my third pedal on my power driv in the 10 yrs I have had it. I am not particularly fond of the pedals. To me the hand held remote would seem like a pain while fishing...... Not sure The ulterra seems to b way out of my price range. How good are the foot pedals on the Terrova ?
-
All very good points to consider. I have to admit that I really abuse my trolling motor. I am up front casting about 99% of the time. A foot pedal is necessary. Spot lock might be a nice option but not critical. Power and comfort is key. ( I did just wake up with a massive cramp in my calf after fishing all day yeste day ) I looked at the recessed pedal tray ...... Expensive but could be an option with some " M cGuyvering "

Blew my 10 yr old minn Kota power drive to bits today while out on the water. I'm going to try and pull it apart tomorrow to see if I can fix it with some new parts or mayb just some new bearings. If all the else fails I may just bite the bullet and buy a new one. I have experience with the maxuum motors and prefer the cable drive but don't like having the foot pedal sitting so far back on my deck as well as not being recessed in the floor. I tried the edge model and loved it too. What do you guys like ( maybe Terrova? )as well as a good min Kota dealer near TO Thanks

I agree with the Princess Auto option. I re did mine with LED submersibles. worked great and only took a couple hours

Went to the show on Friday. had a good time shooting the breeze with all kinds of guys. The days of going to the show and finding all sorts of great deals on fishing gear are long gone. I assume that its because our $ is horrible now. All in all a good show

Cadence is everything. Typically I start with a fast retrieve to see if I can get any follows or to just locate fish first. Once I have found an area that has fish then I will slow it down. Craig Ritchie had a good point about smaller jigs rigged with some sort of swimbait. I use a flipping jig rigged with a swimbait. work slow on the bottom or sometimes just a steady retrieve. As for follows...... it really depends on the mood of the fish. when I see a follow, I will pause for a quick second followed by a couple of really hard fast jerks. like really hard. then pause . usually they will smoke it on the next twitch.

Mainly jerkbaits for me. I like Husky Jerks and Smithwick Rogues Give the newer Smithwick Rogue perfect 10 a try. Also , early in the spring don't be afraid to try smaller baits like Husky Jerk 12's sometimes the pike are feeding on smaller bait and the smaller profile lures will out produce the larger. When the water is cold, give the bait really long pauses

Amazing ! -
Beware that not all fluorocarbon is not created equal. I prefer Seagar Premier blue label.

You really only want to fill about 1/3 of your spool with mono. I always keep a cheap spool of 8 pound test red wolf from canadian tire for all my backing needs. You will still be able to get 150 yards of braid on your reel. That should last you a while. After a couple seasons if you start to see your backing after a long cast, replace your braid with fresh new braid
-
I use 80 - 100 pound flouro leader for pike and sometimes 30 titanium wire. This leader does not seem to affect the action on the jerkbaits much. One spool of the 80-100 pound will last you a long time. Trust me. We have had this argument in the past. I have had big pike slice right through 50, 80 pound flouro. Better to be safe than sorry
-
I would recommend 20 pound power pro. Don't forget to add some mono backing on your spool before your braid so it doesn't slip on the reel. Minimum 50 pound flouro leader of pike. You can take the leader off in the summer when bass fishing. Or you can use a 12 pound flouro leader in the summer for bass if fishing clear water

Now that you mentioned it, I have also broken the lip on two. I just thought that it was from hard abuse banging on rocks ect.... I really like the megabass 110 and the magnum 110. As for colours, I would say the perch or bluegill colours for the Kawartha lakes. Maybe use a flouro leader because the pike and muskie love em. If you like the high end baits, give the lucky craft pointers and flash minnows a try. Always run great right out of the box.

Excellent. Thanks for taking us on your journeys

I wouldn't be so quick to get rid of your old rods. I have made this mistake in the past. Lots of good advise here. A great example is the crucial rods. They had a bad run for a couple years where the quality just wasn't there Seems like they have come back around. Another example is the Shimano Vrods Amazing rods that have a cult like following. People love them. If you really still like your rods , keep them. This doesn't mean you can't still buy new ones

So no more dealing with windy conditions while fishing !

Sounds good to me. I think that Scugog needs all the help it can get. The creation of wetlands to filter storm water before it enters the lake can only be a good thing. Although a very small project ( footprint wise ), every bit will help. Im sure Ducks Unlimited will be all over it.

Only two bass pics ?????
