I fish pike from March till December so the odds of bite offs would be higher than average I guess

Defective leader material ? Um no. Big fish + small baits + 100pound flouro = bite off
-
I have been experimenting with heavy flouro leaders and steel titanium leader quite a bit in the last few years. Pros and cons to both. 100 # flouro learders have been bitten clean through by big pike. not very often but it has happened. A couple of true trophy fish lost ( not to mention the lure ) The action of the bait was not compromised with 100 # flouro. Back to back uni knot works well. I usually tie on an 18inch leader and inspect and shorten often when I start to see knicks. Started using tieable titanium leader from a few different companies with mixed reviews. 20# Terminator and 20 # Knot to Kinky seem to work well. A little tough to tie knots but once you get it right it seems to work well. Back to back uni from leader to main line and a loop ( rapala ) knot to the clip. This leader WILL kink once a couple of fish wrap around the line. This does effect the action of the lure. The weight of the leader also makes the bait sink a little bit pointing the nose down. I would suggest bringing both types of leader material and experiment to see which you prefer. or use both

The fishing in and around the T.O. harbour can be seasonally good at times. The people in the various marinas can be a pain in the you know what sometimes. As stated earlier the only launches are at Humber Bay west and Ashbridges bay. Both are good concrete launches but a bit of a run into the islands and Harbour. You will however require a harbor licence to operate a power vessel within the Toronto Harbour. Police are usually in full force out there. You can obtain a licence from The Toronto Port Authority From the Toronto Port Authority Website....... Powered Vessel Operators Permit Recreational boaters operating a powered vessel within the Port and Harbour of Toronto must be in possession of BOTH a Powered Vessel Operators permit and a Pleasure Craft Operator Card. The Pleasure Craft Operator Card is issued by Transport Canada for all Canadian waterways. You can find additional information about the Card on Transport Canadas website. The Powered Vessel Operators Permit is issued by the Toronto Port Authority. You can renew for your Powered Vessel Operators Permit online or download an application if its your first time applying. Apply for a permit here. Renew your permit here. The following is important information about the Powered Vessel Operators Permit. Please read it carefully. If you have questions you can call 416-778-1230 or e-mail the Permit Office Boaters Notice regarding the Powered Vessel Operators Permit Powered Vessel Operators Permit Information The Toronto Port Authoritys Practices and Procedures require that "No person shall operate a powered vessel within the Port and Harbour of Toronto unless authorized to do so. Acquiring such permit (also known as a harbour licence) comprises of 2 parts: i.to obtain a 30-day Learners Temporary Permit, then ii.take a written and practical test to obtain the PoweredVessel Operator's Permit Powered Vessel Operator's Permits are granted to persons 14 years and older, and are for 1 or 2 year duration, expiring December 31 of a given year. Over the years my passion for trout fishing has dwindled. Throughout March and early April I had visions of waking up early to get to the river. Going through my trout gear I soon realized that I had no hooks, split shot and the line on my float reel has been on there for almost 6 years. Trout fishing would have to be on hold till opener. Got out for trout opener for a very short time on Saturday morning. Time was very limited as my son had hockey tryouts at 10am. My son had been bugging me to go trout fishing since last year as his grandpa bought him a new rod that he was dying to use. I never thought that I would say this but I seem to get more satisfaction putting others onto fish over my own personal greed to hook and land fish. ( we are a greedy bunch ) No need for finesse presentations this year. My focus was to put my son onto some fish. A 7 ft med action rod with 20 pound power pro, a small clear float, a couple of split shots and 12 pound flouro tippet was the set up for the morning. This was to ensure that my son could handle the steelies in close quarters. My son was doing quite well hooking, fighting and landing quite a few fish. After the fish got wise to our offerings I decided that it was time to break out the big stick and get a couple of fish for myself. It was a great morning and a day that my son is still buzzing from. He learned a lot of things that morning. Most importantly the "steelhead pose" A wise steelheader once told me........ " its not about how many fish you hook , but how good you look doing it "

That's a big one for sure. well done

Nice outing Bill ! Well done

Im not a tournament guy but I would suggest that you cover as much water with a jerkbait and spinnerbait. Once you find some fish locations you can finesse them with a tube , grub , senko or dropshot. Good luck
