  1. Don't have a picture of the brute but a tail.... Was about 4 years back, spending the last week of August (and my only vacation after sweatin at a summer job) before school started up again camping at Halfway Lake PP with my cuz, his fiancee and myself. We didn't have a boat so we rented canoes and motor boats everyday we were there$$$$. The fishing SUCKED....I beleive this was the only fish we caught all week. Thursday of that week me and the cuz set out to utilize the day motor boat rental I traded for an arm. It was raining, looked light a vicious storm, but we toughed it out. Marking nothing on the fishfinder we trolled to a stop by an island in about 60 FOW with no structure. We sat, complained about the waste of time and $, ate lunch and had a smoke. The clouds broke nicely and a ray of sunshine hit our cold, wet clothes as we watched the storm majestically depart on each side of us. BEEP I glance at the screen to see a biggun' suspending. Without a word to each other we pick up our rods and start casting away. I was using a perch colored wallydiver and, knowing we were in deep with nothing to snag, third cast in, a big THUMP. I'm excited as hell as line is screaming of my reel without my cusz shoutin' "STOP MESSIN' AROUND, I WANNA SEE WHAT IT IS". So I bring her to the surface. Mr.pike slowly emerged, this thing had SHOULDERS. No net, so it took my cuz three attempts to compose himself and lift her in the boat. When that 40" and about 25lbs of pike came in we were the only loons screamin over the serene lake. That was the only fish the entire week, but a memorable one. Hope you enjoyed the story, reefruneer
  2. Living in the GTA, I have many options available and usually do a little price hunting before hand and go to the selected retailer from there. Did not know about the price matching policy, thanks BPSBASSMAN! As for products, I have never tried a reel, but the rods they have are quite impressive. I was quite happy with my 7' MH spinning rod and decided to pair up my new abu c3 with one. When I go to BPS, I'm a freakin' kid in a candy store. reefrunner
  3. Who uses the ol' worm under the float if they aren't around the kidddies?
  4. I just bought an Abu C3 and needed an inexpensive rod to match. I ended up getting a BPS 6'6'' MH and can't wait to use it. I have had a 7' MH BPS spinning rod and I have no complaints, a very good rod for 40bones. reefrunner

  11. That's real interesting stuff. I wonder if the asian carp reduced the numbers of jet skiers? Be prepared to boat around in a helmet.
  12. Peacock bass in the amazon, LTW/Eagle Lake/Lac seul musky hunting, catch a pickeral...instead of those pesky walleye

  14. A troika that other site great reports, Thanks Paul.
  15. I've been to Goganda, ON (can't remember the lodge) and had an amazing time there. The main lake we were on was not so good for fishing but the kind folks up there directed us to some other lakes where they leave boats and I experienced some of the best smallmouth fishing ever. Easily caught 50 in about 4 hours. On another lake we tried it was non-stop pike action when trolling with williams spoons. Point being, when hunting for a spot, ask the local owner.operator if there is access to other bodies of water other than the one your staying at. Goodluck, reefrunner
  16. Nicely done! Beauty of a day to get out. reefrunner

  18. Good work Paul. You are great resource to your customers and, seperately, consumers of knowledge on this board. Thanks for the report(s) reefrunner
  19. Well said Capt Bruce. Apart from steelheaders, which I comend for providing some good reads these long months, keep an eye on the board this summer as to whom starts pp-ing recreational boaters, weekend warriors and so forth. We are gifted in having access to all the outdoor wonders Ontario has to offer, but when it comes to sharing that resource we are inclined to look at what has been taken away from our individual experience instead of the how we can appreciate our outdoors in the collective sense. Institutions like conservation agencies, online forums and species specific angling clubs provide the opportunity for the exchange that is lacking in this sport beside the random comment "any luck?" The good outweighs the bad in most cases, but inherentily are inseperable. reefrunner
  20. Seen a HUGE one (maybe 10#s) in Georgian Bay fishing fr ski's at night. dropped plastics, husky jerk, even tried a mepps spinner...no luck. Didn't know about the yellow yarn though, good tip. reefrunner
